it was cheaper for me to switch from a 2007 Tiguan to an EV
Dontye numbers on fuel, maintenance etc v repayments and electricity
It doesn't matter what he says he'll be out of office soon enough with his target long forgotten come 2030.
He knows this himself yet presses on with these delusional statements.
I think you’ve missed the point - every single car sold from today to 2030 could be fully electric, and he’d still miss this target.
Why are they not adjusting it to something that’s a stretch but achievable.
Meanwhile the push to EV is losing steam fast, and the Greens are simply doubling down on something that isn’t even feasible
every day another manufacturer announces they’re pulling back - Mercedes the latest one this past week - and manufacturers of that scale need to plan everything many many years in advance
Regardless of Irish Govt targets the EU will still be targeting ICE cars.
"…Emissions from transport make up a quarter of all EU emissions and half of those are from private cars..."
Because Politicians never admit they were wrong, they prefer to close their eyes and stick their fingers in their ears and plough on with their delusion
it’s better to miss an ambitious target , than scale back and miss an realistic one.
Thats why the PR guys are such an integral part of the political machine these days
The greens hate cars and by extension electric cars.
Ecars charging rates are still ridiculously high, Ryan came out against the use of charging arms for EVs in Dublin and he's done nothing to try and change the increasingly negative coverage of EVs.
He's happy to see us miss the target so he can go "EVs aren't the answer" and bring in more taxes on cars to force people to switch to buses, bikes and trains.
What over countries use a charging arm?
it’s not an ambitious target - it’s not even feasible, so everyone is ignoring it.
“We aimed for 30% and got to 10%” is not success. Just throwing it out there - might they look at raising the grants?
they should, rowed back too quickly on them
I don’t think it’s the grants that are the issue. It’s the second hand values. People are afraid to buy a used EV and existing EV owners can’t easily trade up.
Why would someone be afraid to buy a used one?
why can't they? The depreciation is in large part due to the drop in price of new evs
Battery degradation issues is the big worry for people who have never owned an EV before.
Current owners wouldn't be worried but misinformed people won't buy
because they don’t know enough about EVs and batteries etc. short warranties not helping either.
..
So its because they've been misinformed.
Which EVs have short battery warranties?
Mileage limit could be seen as the more limiting factor with EV warranties. 160K Km’s could be covered well before say an 8 year period.
You only have to look at all the 2017 Nissan Leafs for sale with more than 160k on them.
Someone like the AA needs to come out with a comprehensive health check for used EVs similar to what they do with ICE cars.
It wouldn't be to difficult for them to do a basic health on voltages and degradation, this would reassure many potential buyers that are on the fence.
Well you have a point there. Manufacturers could certainly increase the warranties because so few fail. Little cost to them but a hugh boost in consumer confidence.
fear of the unkown. I bought mine on PCP witH the intention of getting a new one in 3 years as technology moved on.
Depreciation wasn’t a factor as I got
A good deal that many repayments were cheaper than monthly running costs for
My ICE.
Warranties are worth F all , VW only offer a 70% warranty. So allowing a massive 30% loss in 7 years
Loss on a warranty?
I’d say they already thought they were doing that by going to 8yrs - most EV drivers aren’t doing 20,000km pa
EV have never been less unknown than ever before. I don't think thats it. Unless we mean the "unknown" as in the fud being fed to the people who won't do their own research.
I think part of the issue is theres no incentive not to buy diesel never mind petrol.
I had some one claim today they get better mileage with their mild hybrid than their previous diesel. That they can drive for a few days on battery. The size of their battery? 1Kwh. I gave up at that point.
battery loss. So VW only will replace a 77KWH battery if it falls to 59kwh
If the manufacturers want to keep selling EVs they'll have improve how they repair and warranty them.
Because they won't be able to counter the fud any other way.
