Mullally would buy and sell alot of managers in kilkenny. Some absolutely chronic decisions made before and during the match.B Theres players consistently poor and start every match. Ya wouldn't see it in any other county. Last 2 matches are huge and dublin away is tricky. We would beat nothing this evening. fair play to cw but a really dark day for kk.
I see what you're saying but it was one mistake, he had a good game otherwise, he's not going to learn much on the bench. I also think his puckouts are streets ahead of Murphy's, which is nearly more important than shot stopping these days.
We may have been rode by the ref at the end, but Carlow played a smart game, they tightened things up at the back in the first half and kept in touch, and took their opportunities when they got them, the goal was deserved.
We on the other hand looked very complacent, there was no shape to the team and no urgency to our play. Ball into the forwards was aimless and played right into their hands all day, and we never did anything about it. Shooting was atrocious. A lot of people playing like they not only expected the win to just happen but that they felt very comfortable in their place on the starting fifteen.
Worst of all was that after their goal we completely panicked, lost our shape and played completely headless stuff. Those are moments for cool heads with faith in a strong plan. We had none of that.
Credit to Carlow, they played everything to a T, don't remember when I last saw TJ get totally roasted. Mullally was on top of everything tactically, would love to have him in our senior set up.
Blaming the ref for a match we should be winning by double digits (no offense to Carlow but it's a simple numbers have, they've only six senior clubs) is only bollocks talk, Lyng should be breaking hurls in that dressing room, and a lot of lads playing today had better be getting used to watching from the bench. Hope to see a big response now next day, that was unacceptable.
Murphy is terrible at puck outs. Tallis has to go through the "this is championship senior intercounty hurling-no f#cking about" moments. Will murphy be on goal next year? If i had any money on it i would say not, as anecdotally I've heard he's unhappy being in setup for years.
But railroading the midfielder into corner back spot really pisses me off.
Is there anyone who saw it or was there that can give a breakdown of performances and how the game went?
I know it'll be hard to relive it. 🙈
Cork scores 3.28 against limerick and Kilkenny score 1.20 against carlow ffs we're bollixed for a long time I think 🤔
Worst Kilkenny performance I’ve seen in my life. I couldn’t believe what I was watching.
Did they not take Carlow seriously or what?
There has to be serious questions asked about the management after that. The players too. I’m just in total shock.
No issue with Murphy playing after Tallis' mistake in the Galway game showed he's not ready
Scandalous nepotism and bias starting Killian Doyle out of the blue. The young lad has a big match next Wednesday ffs. Same last year putting a leaving cert student in against tipp for a league match debut.
Shambolic stuff from team and management. Embarrassing.
It was a perfect match to keep going with Tallis on goal.
Billy Drennan in for Owen Wall was another mistake, I don't like to single lads out but the first thing you need in a kk jersey is savage work rate and I've yet to see that from Drennan.
Today's result would never have happened with Mr Cody in charge...
Massive congratulations to Carlow. Best team for most of the game and especially the 2nd half.
The standard of reffing is in a very bad place.
Different sport in Cork
our crowd wouldn’t give Tom Mullally any of the underage jobs ? Will Killian Doyle still be eligible Wednesday night seen as it’s a different competition
They would be wiped out of it in Munster
Serious questions for Derek Lyng to answer. The poorest performance I've seen from a Kilkenny side ever.
Good point re not closing out games …. happened in Galway and far too many times in the last couple of years.
It's quite typical of Kilkenny of recent years not managing out games well enough.
I was watching the warmup and it was quite intense for such a hot day, yet they still went out in 2nd gear and never up'd their game at all. Very strange day for kilkenny hurling.
An absolute fantastic day for Carlow hurling on the other hand.
The Tommy Walsh for Billy Ryan substitution was criminal. Incredibly negative. Just no need for it.
Lyng should have read the riot act after the match. I know Cody would have. Unacceptable to be drawing with Carlow
Murphy is in the goal a long time now. The whole county has being on about the puckouts for years. Kk were cruising till the sending off. We got a massive kick up the hole today.
When in the name of god are we going to see sense and get a goalkeeper who can distribute the ball .....people are saying it on here with 5 years
Fair enough…. Couldn’t see it but everyone around me baffled. Really don’t want to come across as a bad sport because I’m actually very pleased for Tom Mullally and the Carlow hurlers but you just couldn’t not mention how poor the ref was.
I don't. Just a perspective from someone outside the KK bubble for the most part. Love the place btw. Watergarden still around? Used to take friends niece and nephew there after bringing them to train w/their club. Nice relaxing place if not a little yuppie-ish + $$. 😉 Anyway, All the best.
Shocking result today. Carlow deserved it though.
Firstly fair play to Carlow. That draw will hopefully spur the county onto greater things. In leinster we need as many competitive teams as possible to be up there challenging and today even though kilkenny had most of the play they never gave up and got some decent scores.
The officiating was cruel and hard to believe at times but the winning of the game should be beyond that particular side of things.
As for ourselves we don't really need to say a whole lot apart from we were as poor as most of us could have imagined.
Our movement and passing coming out of the backs in the 1st half was actually good. Its just that we spurned so many chances. In the 2nd half our movement was all over the place, as was our cavalier attitude with passing and deliveries into the forwards.
Hard to comprehend really. We were far too casual in our approach so the lessons to be learned are simple
Give 110% for every ball, pass and delivery we make and in the forwards we need to be far more clinical, in our movement, passing and striking.
Fairly simple. A trip to parnell Park will end in tears if we don't.
End of the hurl into the ribs
Would we even get out of Munster?
Killian Doyle was sent off
Killian Doyle…. genuinely no idea why.
Its no suprise that scruffs puckouts have being dreadful a long time now. We were complacent but playing a chap completely out of his dept is scandalous. Theres lads who have being consistently poor a long and just keep getting picked. Ya wouldnt see it in any other county
Who was sent off.
Can't find a report of the game anywhere
Ah jaysus lads…. We were absolutely brutal, exactly how not to play with 14 men. Fair play to Carlow but my God the referee …. I thought James Owen’s was bad but that was just incredible. Seriously what was the last free for?… I don’t think the ball was even in play?
