Heard it was groin and needed a procedure. 8 weeks is timeframe for likes of that. End of May for All Ireland series might be doable for him
How many are on the panel currently? When they don't name panels for league or championship ,it's hard to know who's involved.
Emmanuel Shehu had a decent cameo against Derry in the McKenna Cup but didn't feature after. He was playing Sigerson with Sligo so would have missed the Down game in McKenna Cup.
Not full sure. It is hard to know once we get to Championship, all we can go on is who was around McKenna Cup and early days of the League. Think it's standard enough that new players get a look at McKenna Cup, but it does take time to get up to the Conditioning (with notable exceptions like Carolan etc) so would be next year or so before they actually push for a place
hopefully we see him back as soon as possible, brings so much to the team.
Yeah it would take a while. Shehu is powerfully built so thought he might have been around the League panel.
Hard to know, there's a few lads that never got game time in the McKenna cup that were definitely called in but whether they dropped out or let go, we never know!
From McKenna cup, lads who got minimal time but haven't been seen about a match day panel since by my reckoning are: Cormac McKeogh, Timoney, Liam Fay, Jack Tully, Peter Smith, Shehu, Paul Smith and Caoimhim McGovern. I could be missing a few there but I don't think any of the above have been on a match day panel yet.
The U20s in action again tomorrow. Lovett will probably be added to the Senior panel at some stage. He's not the biggest of players ,but neither is Darragh Canavan
The new format gives more gamers but it's not same spice as knockout. Cavan with 2 defeats likely going into the new secondary competition.
Evan crowe might be added too if he does well.
Hindsight is always 20:20. Much like the performance Cavan gave, Killian Brady really surprised me. He was excellent.
I did say the forward line would struggle for scores and it did bar the sublime Kilnaleck man.
Somebody mentioned Emmanuel Shehu above. I was told back in February he was no longer in the panel.
Yeah he played against Gowna last weekend. They should really release a panel ahead of the League.
I see David Phillips is back playing with Gowna. He had been on the Sligo panel for the past few years.
The elephant in the room here though is that we all know he’s an influential figure in the dressing room who won’t accept that role.
In fairness to him, it’s a lot of training and dedication to accept a 10 or 20 minute cameo role in matches.
The bottom line is that he’s not there so let’s not fall into this old Cavan habit of glorifying lads that aren’t on the panel.
It's still hard to know though, and players at clubs isn't saying they're off the panel. Galligan has been releasing players who are wider squad members to play for clubs. After Fermanagh, any player who played less than a half or no time was let play club the next day
I remember in one of his interviews when he took over, saying he wanted players to play with the Clubs when the chance arose. No point carrying a big panel and not them not playing football for months.
That's true and it led to one of the funnier Cavan GAA supporter conspiracy theories of recent times.
Crosserlough had James Smith, McVeetry, Rehill and Lynch all play more than a half against Fermanagh (thereby ruling them out of playing league football the next day with their club), whereas Gowna had the two Maddens, Conor Brady and Ryan Donohoe only come on for brief cameos (and I don't think Ryan Brady even came on). Who did Gowna play the next day in the league??
Sure the "county board" wanted Gowna to beat Crosserlough so they (or the management team) deliberately held off playing the Gowna lads. You could not make it up.
And to top that, I had someone tell me (albeit under the influence) that the "county board" deliberately runs the Lough players into the ground (Smith and McVeety as examples) but Gowna never seem to have players return from county duty injured.
You mean the role of an impact sub or role of a Full Forward? Didnt he play full forward for the Gaels to great effect last season?
Yet another misspelling of Dara McVeety.😂 I'm not having a go at you or anything but it never ceases to amaze me. The amount of different spellings of his name that I've seen on the forums is just comical at this stage 😁 please don't take that the wrong way, I just find it funny.
McVeety is the correct name.
McVeety and McVitty are different surnames. A lot of people were spelling his name as McVitty for a long time
Back on Page 368 post #11027 there is a graphic with the Cavan panel for the Louth game in the League. Can anyone spot the error in the names?
McAveety seems to be another very common one😄
I've also seen McVeerty and McVittie numerous times not to mention Darragh for his first name
This one?
Impact sub.
Yes.
What way do you spell his name yourself?
Look up Twitter/x and he's there as McVeety.
Noah Hofmann? Yeah they seem to get his name wrong a bit…
It was corrected in the graphics posted on this forum for later games.
Yes, that's the proper way as far as I know. It's all the other spellings of it that I pick up on.
Anyway, on to more important things. Having looked back at the game on RTE player I have to say that I was very impressed with Oisin Brady's performance overall. A couple of posters mentioned that he made a few mistakes (and he did) but overall he made a very positive impact on the game.
I thought the latest WAC podcast was very good particularly were one of the lads(can't remember which one) called out Michael Murphy's lazy piece of "journalism" in Mondays paper. How could he get his analysis of the game so wrong on so many fronts? What game was he watching?
I think he's still sore from the Ulster final in 2020. It's well worth a listen for anyone interested.
James O Donohue is fairly good of the recent retired players as a pundit. Paddy Andrews likes the sound of his own voice.
Michael Murphy is on the Football Review Committee, as is Eamonn Fitzmaurice. I hope they don't say anything in their roles as pundits which could come back to bite them when the Committee reports.
I wouldn't have much faith in Murphys ability in that role either after reading yon nonsense😂
Forget Michael Murphy. Look at this cutting edge reporting in the Celt.🤣
