Cheap tax 1.9tdi beetle
Tested until September
Seems to be pretty clean.
Asking €2k
whats this realistically worth: Audi A4 Cabrio 1.8T 2004 https://www.donedeal.ie/view/36613714
Slight concerns as to why it needed a new engine at low enough mileage. Do the elec roofs give issues would be noce for the summer with the kids.
Cheap-ish tax too. VW’s look horrendous with after market wheel trims but a set of second hand alloys off a Golf could be gotten for peanuts.
The roofs tend to leak as they get older. I had a TT convertible and every time it rained the the car would grow mold
That engine needed very regular oil changes as the sump capacity is small, if the correct oil wasn't used the pickup strainer would block starving the engine of oil. With work having been done on the head too I'd say it was never serviced I'd be very wary and get it checked thoroughly particularly the front suspension as you can spend a fortune there.
You can easily and cheaply prevent that with dehumidifiers. I used to buy them for €1.50 each in dealz for my MG-F. These cars leaked even when brand new from factory 😂
Hi all,
Trawled through the last few pages but options I can see are either sold or not necessarily recommended for reliability.
Looking for a car for a friend, roughly €2.5k budget + car as a trade-in, 2007 banged up Ford Focus, probably 500 quid worth in my untrained eyes. So presuming €3k value(can sell car afterwards).
Ideally looking at Toyotas for the sake of reliability, but some 2008+ Yaris options out there are €3.5k+. Even at that, I think Yaris might be too small for her needs. I was looking at Auris/corollas, but all I've seen within budget are 300k+ kilometres. Is this normal expectation now at this price range? Not much requirements, transmission could be either, fuel could be either. Would just like for it to look clean, be reliable and have NCT.
Would that Bettle posted above suit? Toyota are going to command a premium, she will need to wide the net at that budget. If the Focus is rough, she’d better selling privately than trading it.
A dehumidifier isn’t going to dry your carpets and get rid of all the mold. The car needs to be kept indoors if it leaks. Trust me I owned one for years.
Ah ok, it looks like your leaks were a lot more severe than mine 😁
Yeah it was terrible, I loved the car but it really ruined the experience for me. I ended up selling it soon after. I’d buy another one if I could put it through a car wash or something to see if it leaks😂
BTW my Leaf is still for sale. Thought I had it sold to a boardsie, but he keeps changing his mind. He might take it, he might not take it, etc.
I'm like that guy I was going to spend a lot of money on a car(well an awful lot for me, someone well off may not have to think so long about spending that much) but I keep stopping myself from pulling the trigger. I'd say I will buy something eventually but it will be in May at the earliest. But I will see. As I said I'm like that guy, I will buy a car, then next no, I do not think I will.
ended up picking the Audi up today, the fella was decent guy and didnt want to sell only for he had two cars and only room for one.
it does need some TLC but have factored that into the price and it hasnt been driven very much. Missus will be driving it so will make sure its 100% then no doubt I will sell it on after I get board of it, probably car number 150 I have owned at this stage.
Will get oil servive done and there is no rattles or bangs. May do front tyres as I am fussy.
Any Audi indelendents that would be recommended in and around Dublin?
How many? Holey moley.
Forget the Audi, we need to know more about the 150 cars that you’ve owned!
What size is the battery in your leaf unkel?
haha one of these days I will put a list together of everything I have owned, planning to try get a picture of each one for my wall, every 6 months or so I get bored and change just shifted a nice elec car this week and waiying for a 3 litre V6 supercharged motor to come back from the mechanics, another needs vrt sorted and another old jap one needs some elec gremlins sorted. Otherwise every jap car you can think of I have owned and germans have fristrated me bmw/range rovers etc so hopefully this Audi will be ok, its the first Audi I have ever owned.
It's a 24kWh Leaf from 2011, low miles, very nice and clean car, taxed, only passed the NCT a few weeks ago and better battery health than average with 8 out of 12 battery bars still remaining. PM me if you are interested in buying
Please do share! I'm a bit like you but not as extreme. I'd say I haven't even owned 40 cars. Can't help myself though, just went to the UK to buy a classic Lotus Elan turbo petrol, drove it home yesterday 😂
Whoaaa! Year? Pics? Share the wealth on that beauty!!
1. What's its towing weight and
2. Is the fuel bill elan or do you have to make do with aerodynamics?
I'm afraid not. Apologies, I guess there is a criteria. Kind of needs 5 seats with decent space. That's why I mentioned Yaris being too small.
Yeah I mentioned to her regarding just selling off the focus, not necessarily trading it in.
Thanks.
Any other brands in this budget that we can consider? Thanks again.

Is it for a second family car that's not needed for long distance travel? If so, you could consider a Nissan Leaf. Proably the most reliable car ever made. Several posted in this thread or here:
Amazing find. Thank you.
You loved your MGF??????? There is something wrong with you!!!!Hahahahahaha.
I had 1 one and can safely say it was the worst car I ever owned. A bag of shite in
every sense of the word.
MGF? I was referring to the convertible Audi we were discussing above.
I loved my MGF 😁
Didn't like my TT though…
