I thought he would get some jail time especially since he ran from the cops and pleaded not guilty.
He's very lucky, but not a great role model for young gaa fans.
As I told you in the Limerick thread, if your management team had any principles he should not be considered for selection until after the duration of his suspended sentence. His debt to society for his actions is yet to be paid.
You still didn't answer the question btw; do you condone Hayes actions? It sure sounds like you do.
Of course I don’t condone such actions. It’s a very weird question that’s being bandied about on numerous threads. And saying that I do condone it is just really strange and fantastical.
Lastly, exactly who are you to conjure up imaginary rules that he should not play county until the suspended sentence is up? Why is it okay for him to work, play for Kildimo/Pallaskenry, go to a pub, etc. but not play county?
Exactly he didn't express remorse in court or after the case but apparently did it to Kiley only a day after. I disagree that he shouldn't have gone to jail, that was not just a slap, that kind of assault can kill someone. I'd be in favor of 3 or 4 years for anyone who commits an assault like that. That's why we have events like this happening every weekend all over the country. It needs to be dealt with harshly.
If he is a free man then he should be selected
If jailed he can't be
We live in a liberal society where prison isn't just punishment, it's a much better country for this
Nothing strange about it at all. He doesn't deserve to be treated like a saint anyway that's for sure. Maybe if he apologised to the victim for what he did, then he be given a second chance. Other than that no.
Lets just hope that no opposition players lose their footing while near Hayes on the field, even if they are wearing helmets.
He's not a free man, he's a convicted criminal with his sentence suspended for the next 2 years.
FYI.
It's a question of values, of which John Kiely has shown he has little of by selecting him.
I wonder if it were Kiely's young fella that had been brutally assaulted would he think differently?
Don't need to be falling or on the ground to be in trouble......
What a silly question "if it were Kiely's young fella...........would he think differently?" I'm sure he probably would. Wouldn't anybody? Doesn't anybody directly affected by bad stuff think differently than if they are not directly involved?
Badly clutching at straws now, coming up with hypothetical situations and imposing your own set of ‘values’.
Again, where does this stop? Should his job, Kildimo/Pallaskenry, et al impose your values on him?
As he doesn't have a custodial sentence he is a free man
Fyi
I’m from a hurling weakhold so no skin in the game here but I can’t stand all the tribalism that comes with sport. Can’t understand why people can’t call things out for what they are. There is no defending Hayes and the stance that Kiely took.
Kiely is the first person to talk about how special “the group” are in his interviews and how they are not just a panel of 40 hurlers but 40 wonderful human beings etc and how they go for coffees together. Looks a bit silly now and not a group I’d want to be part of.
Thought he was one of the good guys but I’ve totally lost respect for him after doing character statement. Not that he will care.
I personally think it would be better for hayes to sit this year out, more to life than sport and winning. If I was a Limerick fan , it wouldn’t sit well with me having him involved this year. I’m not saying cancel him forever but just leave him off this year.
I actually think Kiely will walk after this year.
Excellent post.
He does have a custodial sentence. For your information.
His job or a pub in kildimo and pallaskenry doesn't involve him being in front of thousands of idiots telling him what a great fellow he is despite the fact he kicked 7 bells of s%it out of another human being.
Kiely should have done 2 things if he really wanted Kyle Hayes best interests at heart. 1 stay the fcuk out of court making a fool out of himself and drawing more attention on the case.
2 ask Kyle to step away from the panel for at least this year.
No instead he is putting him centre stage on tv , social media etc for public abuse.
Anything for a win John ?
Mod Edit
Warning issued.
So it’s the fact that people that people will be screaming abuse/praise at him is your issue?
Consider me unsurprised that Limerick fans appear happy to have a convicted criminal representing their county team.
They know they are limited without him and can't see him doing no wrong to be on and part of the team.
Think this thread should be closed
Wouldn't hold the man in high regard but no need for most of the comments here
Totally agree and I'm not a limerick supporter. Some really scurrilous comments.
I'm sure Hayes would agree, you should never kick a man when he's down.
This kind of blind tribalism exists everywhere I suppose - the idea that, as a fan, no matter what, you have to defend your player, manager, club, county, or country.
No idea why Kiely got involved the way he did. He could have just made non-committal comments about the whole thing (or tried, at least).
He didn’t fight outside the nightclub and didn’t kick anyone in the head. From the judge……
"The jury verdict is clear - that Kyle Hayes did not assault Cillian McCarthy on Denmark Street.
He was not involved in the attack on Cillian McCarthy while he was on the ground."
A lot of them completely false too
What next.. he was on a Pilgrimage to Medjugorje at the time of the assault.
Is this a joke?
If its not you'd be a bit..concerned 🤣🤣🤣
What all players from opposition teams will be doing to Hayes this year on the field of play.
