I was just browsing the Sky Ireland website and it has a banner for Sky Stream. It states to phone Sky for further information
I have a few pucks in my home house and tbh I love it it's great job . I wonder if i bought another puck and left it in my home house in another county would it work ?
It wasn’t blocked last night anyway (Top Gun that is)
opened 4OD and played perfectly
Caught the first 25 live too with no issues
Haven’t seen anything other than football geoblocked on Channel 4 on Sky in years. (They have preserved the capability to do so by keeping the ROI feed encrypted, however, the football is blocked by Channel 4 playout - they substitute the programme with an animated caption - rather than using Sky’s CAS to do so, which kinda makes you wonder why they bother continuing to encrypt if they’ve another method of geoblocking that doesn’t require it).
Weird that it was blocked on Sky Stream. Top Gun Maverick was available on Channel 4 on Virgin Media. Indeed films on Channel 4 are never blocked on Virgin Media. The England-Brazil match before it was geo blocked but that was the case across all platforms accept for Freesat.
This was broadcast though, on live TV. I hadn't tried to Watch from Start or anything. Just switched onto this channel and it appeared.
Top Gun Maverick is available on the Sky Stream box through All 4 now so it's strange what happened last night. The error suggests a rights problem but as its there now who knows.
Very weird with top gun as it seems to be available on the channel 4 app. I mean the knives out thing is frustrating but at least there's consistency that it isn't available in the app.
Just saw that Top Gun 2 was on C4 - started an hour ago. Fab says I since MOTD isn’t on. Saw the “Watch from Start” button was available but when I selected that I got a message saying “this program is not available in your area”.
Mightily fed up of Sky Stream now - wonder can I change to Sky Q without penalty? I did a very long survey yesterday about the Sky Stream experience. One of the questions asked was did I have annoyances about not being able to see MOTD more or less as I wanted to see it! They must be getting flack about that one!
They DO show Naked Attraction, which I've watched, purely for research purposes of course.
It might be something like the All4 player where you can't watch live but may be able to view it later on the player.
Did they show naked attraction?
You dirty old man!!!!!!
Haven't seen this before, movie on E4 not available
On Sky Stream, you have the option to skip ads on the Player apps. It's included in the current bundle though they may well apply an extra charge in the future.
I find something on the channel 4 app if I try fast forward something I can’t stop it, except putting it in rewind with no way to stop that.
Yes, it’s very poor on smart TV and of late there can be up to 6 ads in the middle of a 30 min program. Sometimes it bugs out and you have to watch the ads all over again. The traditional Sky + is ideal
So you can watch Prime Time on the RTE Player app. Probably the games too, though it's not something I use myself.
Yes. I had it cloud record some overnight things from TNT Sports without issue.
recording stuff, massively handy for games on RTE or Prime time.
There is cloud recording on channels that don’t have catchup, or some of them at least.
What would you miss out on?
Much Less tempting
No, absolutely nothing, neither cloud nor physical storage, just easy linking to catch-ups
So can this gizmo record in some capacity at all?
Very tempting.
DTT channels are accessible through an app and the EPG for the DTT channels is only Now and Next. I don't see myself ever using it as Saorview on the television at least has a full EPG.
Yes, all the documentary channels are there and as noted above you get the Discovery+ app included in the price.
The basic kids channels (RTEjr, CBBC etc) are on it but Nickelodeon, Nick Jr are an extra cost
I'm not overly pushed about having live TV to be honest anyway, only thing I really watch live is Sport and I have my completely legal Firestick for that.
It was really the suggestion of having a Saorview/Freesat setup - at that stage, I’d add Now rather than Sky to fill in the missing channels.
Of course if you’re starting afresh Sky may make sense when faced with the significant initial investment in installing an aerial and dish (can be about €500 between installation and equipment). A lot of people out there with Freesat set ups - including myself - are ex Sky satellite customers whose dish installation was paid for by Sky and so didn’t have to make that initial investment.
If you're a new Sky customer it works out cheaply when paired with broadband only €50p/m.
Will I keep it after the first year is up and prices rise, probably not but I'll see what they offer when it comes to that.
It comes with the Discovery+ app free so you have on demand all those factual shows across discovery, history I think and crime.
