You aren't going to get anything for squashed cans; and it appears that you're griping about not getting back deposits you never actually paid.

It won't come in in Northern Ireland until everyone in Stormont agrees on it, and currently they couldn't agree on the colour of shyte, so I wouldn't worry too much right now.

Lucozade Zero gone from 2 to 2.20, large cook zero bottles were three for 6 euro, now two for five with Dunnes

This whole scheme is a cash grab in multiple ways.
Went with my 6 year old and a box of bottles/cans to local SuperValu. Drove there burning a bit of diesel and adding an extra car trip to the road that didn't need to be there prior to this.
Box I had was full..the machine accepted about 30 percent of the contents which is up from the first time I attempted this. 3.10 voucher received and put the other rejected materials back in the boot to put them into my own recycle bin at home that I am paying more for now than I did a few months ago. There were deffo items in the box that I paid a deposit on but didn't get it back.

I got their 'Lilt' dupe last week and it had the logo / deposit.
If it was just one or two brands I'd put it down to them taking the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and factor a planned price increase and the new logo into one new packaging design rather than get two different plates made or whatever, but when we're seeing so many price increases this is just blatant profiteering.
Scheme in the UK will be in in 2027 most likely. The regulations are pretty much drafted with only really disagreement as to whether the Welsh can get glass collection in without breaching the UK's internal market act.
Labour are on board with it. The NI parties are already on board with it. The bould Edwin had signed off on it pre fall of the assembly. All of the other parties are on board too. Even if the scheme waits till post election, 2027 is still doable, 26 might be a stretch though.
So, I made a contribution to recycling. I had several slabs of cans of coke bought at 10 Eur. Unfortunately these cans did not have a recycling bar code. I picked up a new can with the recycling barcode, turns out this is called an EAN13 barcode. I entered 5000112627084 into an online barcode generator and I downloaded the result. Copy and paste and print. I sellotaped the barcodes to the cans and, 2nd visit when the machine was working, it took in the cans. It's great to see them going into the machine for recycling 😁

Used the system for the first time yesterday. Totally seamless, zero issues. Was on my way to the supermarket anyway so just dropped the bottles in on the way into the shop, it was super simple. The first machine was clogged up with some crushed cans sitting on the conveyor belt, but I saw them before even trying it and there were three or four more to choose from.
I was impressed and surprised just how quick the machine was, I thought there would be a pause to read the barcode on each item but it seemed to be able to read it while the bottles were going in as fast as the belt could carry them. All in all a very straightforward process.
I've discovered a new barrier to the system: me being an idiot.
I was in aldi twice over the weekend and both times for got the redeem the voucher in my back pocket 😓
Plastic milk and dairy containers are exempt also.

Tetra is fine for juices.
Just on juices, it would be interesting to see if there is any change in sales figures for orange juice (the breakfast sort).
This is where consumers have a direct choice between plastic bottles and tetra.

Their own brand single bottles of Lucozade Orange have a deposit afaik. I was in aldi last week and the lady ahead of me was buying a 4 pack, she asked the guy behind the till if there was a deposit on them and he said not yet but the single ones did.
There was one thing I was thinking about this scheme, these machines are huge, consume alot of power I'd imagine plugged in all day and night. From a green perspective is that ideal and must be costing retailers a bit to run.
Its very quick, I find it will go through 30 or so containers in less than a couple of minutes. Only real inconvenience right now is having to keep the deposit and non deposit stuff separate at home. I said before it would have been better if all the stock had been in place months ago and then the machines were turned on the 1st Feb, no confusion then on what is returnable or not.
You'd need to go back to December/January posts here, but the specs and power usage details for various models were put up here. They don't use much idling.

I think that's a very subjective assessment of the situation, two of these would have an idle consumption higher than the base load of my own house, even more for the ones with pointless massive bright screens. Multiply that by the number across the country and we're not talking small numbers.
Interesting experience on Saturday Morning
Local Lidl, 2 machines, both displaying the "out of order" signs on the screen. Said it to a lidl worker just inside the door. He went around the back and a few seconds later (and what sounded like the machine being hit a few smacks) they were both back in action. Cans and bottles in followed by voucher out without issues
Interestingly I was given a manual return for the green 1.5L bottle of sparkling water by that same worker. It was being rejected by the machine but he took the bottle off me and gave me a pre-printed voucher for the 25c from his pocket.
Machines were back to being out of service as I was leaving with my shopping 10 mins later mind...
I find it a bit rich to see the word "unfair" associated with commentary on this scheme.
Re-Turn is about as fair as a sucker punch to the scrotum.
It's not going away now so I suppose we can either use the RVMs or continue recycling as usual, probably a bit of both for most people. I would really like to see some answers as to why prices have suddenly increased on these products, excluding the deposit charge.
