Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

3:12 in - judge for yourselves 🙂
Vogue Williams is taking a big gamble, if it's going to be a long term agreement if could backfired and lose her listeners.
Yeah, its banter but Tubs stuttering over the one line
😉 very good!
But seriously - "body language" can be interpreted to mean whatever one wants it to. There's a reason it's not admissible as evidence in a court of law. Pseudoscience.
....
He might even have got it in Argos. Unfortunately, Argos closed all its stores in Ireland. :) The "big podcast" thing was mentioned by one of his Galway cousins, I think. Nothing ever came of it. It will be interesting to see if anything happens with this Vogue Williams project. Her market seems to be a generation younger than that of Tubridy's RTE market.
Regards...jmcc
Yeah, its banter but Tubs stuttering over the one line and his body language would suggest otherwise. But you couldn't really go on that interview alone as Dunphy said "Your smart you didn't get caught"
The word is he was well set up for podcasting in his home in Ireland as early as August last year.
That said, his recent "secret project" escapades with Vogue Williams were in London.
Eamonn Dunphy. Interviewed on the LLS in 2013. I don't have a link to the video, but I posted a link to the article below earlier in the thead.
Mischievous banter between friends, not the criminal exposé some would make it out to be.
What interview? Eammon who? Can you share a link?
Did he buy podcasting equipment?
Who knows what the real story is. To accept that RTE are the ones who cut off the contract negotiations, you have to implicitly trust RTE.
Do you trust RTE?
Posted in incorrect thread.
Which makes him being pictured reading a Robert Galbraith book even more funny.
Ryan: I left RTE, I had a few years left in my contract but decided it was time to go.
Er... I thought RTE axed him?
Agree. Ryan's big issue in 2024 is being too successful at everything he touches. It will inevitably get to him in the end, poor lad.
Ryan was hitting the big green "NEXT" button on the RCS Zetta keys far too hard, so it played a few seconds of the song "St. Elmos Fire" by John Parr, then next item - few milliseconds of a liner - even less of the next track - then it fired a macro AND a promo AND ads!
THATS MEERA'S (his producer) RUNNING ORDER OUT THE WINDOW RIGHT FROM THE GETGO LESS THAN 15 MINUTES INTO THE SHOW...
The "New King Of Mid-Mornings" may need A SECOND tech op to operate the playout system on top of the two producers already assigned at "the other side of the glass".
It does verify the truth as to why Ryan needed 7 researchers plus others on the 9am show at RTE.
He was talking about Auschwitz again and "dining alone" and dark movies in a link, where as usual he took more offshoots and diversions and tangents than spaghetti junction.
Do his bosses realise this is going out on air? Or are we hearing some kind of rebroadcast of a dry run of some kind? Will the real Ryan Tubridy please stand up!
I do think he would have problems operating that "State of the art home podcast studio"
I hope he enjoyed that breakfast tho and feeling good.
I'd particularly like to hear his listener feedback and the Q n' A section!
"And here's an email from Maura in Ballybunion!
Maura writes 'Love the show Ryan' thanks Maura I love Ballybunion, great scones and lovely café there as I recall.... she goes on to write 'but what about the hundred and fifty.................' *cough*
IMEDLA IN SKERRIES IS NEXT UP! "
"Tubridy himself has very clearly moved on - much, much quicker than anyone thought he would.."
Yes. but not in the direction he'd have liked methinks.
He'd have a solid podcast listenership from this thread alone 😂
No avenue into podcasts for him, unless he partners with a proven individual like Vogue Williams who will both bring some portion of her own audience along with her AND steer the ship successfully. As mad as it seems, I could actually see some sort of a format there. There is probably a market for their shared female audiences, Tubridy's misery items and a healthy dollop of her taking the piss out of his manufactured image. Although I don't really think he would go along with that on a weekly basis.
The idea that he would do a solo pod to a high enough standard to actually grow an audience is just for the birds imo. You can't spoof and bluff your way through a podcast where people have to be interested enough to actually subscribe to it and make time to listen. You have to have a USP, some reason for people to care. Tubridy needed that 9am flagship RTE radio slot a lot more than it needed him. As has been conclusively proven in the listenership figures.
Sure he could always stick it up on done deal....
Though I suspect his state of the art studio is probably just a desk in the spare room with a podcast kit..
But what about that 'state of the art ' home studio he bought and which is now gathering dust back at his Dublin home?
Hope he kept the receipt.
I checked back and it was actually €170k it appears. What's 10k in RTE though, eh!?
Bakhurst gave the figure in a RTE interview last August, after the talks fell through.
https://www.irishtimes.com/media/2023/08/17/tubridy-must-own-a-certain-amount-of-responsibility-says-bakhurst/
Well as much as you imply that I may want that to be true, really I don't. However, It is possible that you may also be experiencing the shock - denial points on the change curve that you were very gracious to provide us with
Where did you get the 180 figure?
I guess if you want hard enough for it to be true, you’ll see it that way.
I think most people saw it for what it clearly was, an attempt - misguided maybe - at banter with a friend.
Moved on? He's working in a British radio station in London effectively broadcasting to an Irish audience. His Q102 slot and staying in the Irish public consciousness seems to be his primary concern. That doesn't come across to me as someone who has moved on to bigger and better things. He's doing what he NEEDS to do, nothing more. Sitting on his arse in Monkstown looking like a failure wasn't an option really, was it.
He was almost back in RTE last autumn with a new contract worth €170k. His desperation to put the payments scandal behind him and get back on the RTE teet was palpable. Bakhurst himself was all for it until Tub's scuppered his own contract talks with his sheer hubris.
Tubridy has no scruples. He wants back to the easy life. RTE have shown and continue to show no scruples about anything. There is more than a slight chance he'll be back at the national broadcaster in some capacity at a future date, assuming the PR climate is right.
Edit - Contract value correction
Ref Tubridy denying any drug use - if anyone re-watched that video from Eamon on the LLS they'd see the irony in what he was saying to Tubs! Anyone who knows Eamon knows EXACTLY what he meant!!!
Technically, the voters did not put FF back in power. It was FG. This Tubridy pay scandal and the RTE mess is now driving a stake through the heart of FFG with different opinions on how RTE should be funded. I suppose that the nation should be grateful to Tubridy for starting the exposure of RTE's "management".
This puts paid to the ludicrous conspiracy theory that Lachlan Murdoch is somehow beholden to Tubridy to provide him with a career and exposure. Eddie Temple Morris is by all accounts a great guy, but the show wasn't performing well, and an experienced radio broadcaster and safe pair of hands (he's nothing more than that, let's be honest) was brought in. Some time is needed to assess the success of that.
It is telling, however, that you say that an increase in listenership "can be spun nicely". Let's be clear: If he does increase the listenership, then it's a success. It's not spin if it's a fact
I would chime that rte, or a future version of rte taking tubridy would be confirmation of no reform in accountability.
However voters did put Fianna Fail back in power.
