You mean more Bouchas? Rapes, torture, etc? And giving Putin the incentive to invade even more countries? Putin has to be stopped dead in his tracks, and if not in Ukraine, then somewhere else down the line. But he must be stopped, thats the bottom line.
If Ireland hadn't been neutral in WWII, Germany could've waltzed in and opened another front against the UK. Probably would have taken about a week. Farmers with shotguns vs. the Wehrmacht?
As it was, the Luftwaffe potshotted Belfast in 1941, probably just to see if they could.
Ireland's "Neutrality" likely was negotiated with the Allies - we stay out, so we don't get invaded. I don't think there really was much other reason for it pre-WWII.
I wonder what kind of an assessment a psychiatrist would make on Putin after listening to that interview. The full 2 hrs? I could only stick it for about 30 mins, so I'll be doing it on the instalment plan.
Germany did not invade Ireland because they couldn't. Our neutrality had literally zero to do with it. Just ask Belgium.
Bizarre take.
There is no where to go after Ukraine, except Moldova and Georgia, and they should join Nato asap, then Russia is surrounded, and no way would he attack a Nato country. Putin may go the opposite direction and attack border countries like North Korea and China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan.
The thing is if there is no end to the stalemate in the next 18 months Putin will redefine what victory is for domestic consumption and the Russian public could swallow it. We all know the only thing Russia has achieved in Ukraine is to show the world it is a paper tiger and that it is no match for the western military, but that won't stop Putin trying to create an alternative reality whereby he fought a western backed Nato to a stalemate. The only way out of this is if the West take the gloves off and gives Ukraine what it needs to inflict a resounding defeat that even Putin can't spin as something else. However it seems there are Americans who want a weakened Russia not a vanquished one, perhaps they fear the consequences of chaos in a nuclear armed state if civil war was a consequence of a total victory for Ukraine
A stablemate……?
Ah you mean for this guy!
Did you ever hear the saying “ Better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt”?
Question is, when did Ireland talk with its Allies about its neutrality? Long before the war started? Still, it does seem that the likelihood of the German army organization a land assault in Ireland is small, I think the decision to be neutral had a lot to do with fear of one.
I seem to remember a quote from that time, which was attributed to Hitler that went something like this:- " if Irelands lakes and rivers were sea and airports, we would have taken them."
Those with zero thoughts of their own quote.
Ireland's neutrality was incredibly unpopular with the Allies.
Germany could not assault Ireland without defeating the UK and Germany absolutely would have assaulted Ireland if they had defeated the UK regardless of our neutrality. Our stance was far more just based on not wanting to be dragged into a conflict we felt was not relevant to us and undoubtedly because of a latent anti-British sentiment. I think it was a mistake personally.
I mean, he said a lot of nonsensical things. Ireland could have been made of airports and gold and there is still no way Germany could have invaded absent defeating the UK first.
Russian media keeps saying that NATO is already directly involved in this war. Could they not directly involve themselves in a massive strike on Russian occupied Ukraine? They couldn't say a lot as they already claim as much and it might bring this to an early end. Even if they objected NATO could claim it was new Ukrainian capability and perhaps the Fr Ted excuse and say it wouldn't ever kick Bishop Brennan up the a*se?
Huh. Roger Casement landed in Tralee in a German Submarine in WWI (got caught right away and that was that.) Not so sure 1000 german commandos in subs couldn't have managed it and that's probably all it would've taken to conquer Ireland.
Anyway, agreed, neutrality was a bad decision.
I am sure that 1000 German commandos in subs couldn't have managed it. 10 times that number wouldn't even come close (not that even 1000 could have actually been landed by subs).
The sole reason that Ireland was not invaded was because the Germans couldn't and the British didn't need to.
More on Ukraine's new tactic..
Reading through that, I would not call that out of question. Article itself says it's a precursor to more.
This is followed up by
Surely all standard procedure.
If there's one thing my father taught me, it's this: A pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold.
Progress in Putin's Russia.
The population are so cowed most won't/can't blame Putin but in guarded criticism blame those around him on camera for the state of Russia.
The mob boss still rules.
I could not understand why Putin , in his Carlson interview, did not go back to the year 241 BC when ——————————————————- which was the seed that started the USSR Empire and which included ALL of Ukraine !,!!!!
Slightly off topic but seeing the current situation and it's history. Post war and Putin, could Russia ever be a normal country?
Two native Chuckchi escaped conscription in Putin's army in Putin's Russia and made their way by motor boat across to Alaska.
A Ukrainian baptist minister helped them avoid deportation in the US.
If the USSR - which Putin wants to re create - towards the end of the 2WW wanted to carve up Poland between itself and Germany then is it not on the cards , when the opportunity arises , that Russia will follow up its intentions re Poland?
That was then . This is now. VERY VERY, VERY different
God knows? All I (as a quack!) could "diagnose" from part I heard was a very arrogant man, used to being listened to and permitted to monologue on his pet subjects. Maybe old dictator syndrome strikes (again)?
Russia is in no place to do anything at the moment, and if he retains a connection to reality he will know that, but it is disturbing, given how he built up a case in his own mind for the "Special Military Operation" in Ukraine, and then acted on it.
People talk about how beautiful and sophisticated Moscow and St. Petersburg are, and yes, it's true, they are, but leave the cities behind, and much of rural Russia while not quite as bad as depicted in this video, is still very basic. And it shows how corrupt the system is when in the middle of the Russian winter, people are being robbed blind. Only the wealthy can afford gas for heating, and in one case, where the householder paid 150'000 Rubles to connect the gas to his house, he had to pay a further 150'000 to get it turned on. And as shown in the VID, Putin is blameless, it's those surrounding him who are at fault. When people say that Russians drink too much, its easy to understand why....
What I find most bizarre is that some people actually believe Putin's excuses for who is responsible for the current war. Russia has attacked pretty much everyone they can in history, and while they they were not the aggressor in every time, it's not like they are the victims.
For such a (supposedly) great country, it seems to be quite easy for everyone else to "provoke" Russia into a war.
Poland looks likely to have received all its 500 himars and 300 chunmoos by 2027. Along with abrams and k2s, on some longer schedule. Hard to put all the dates together, but some of the dates aren't so far off.
So good luck to Russia getting through all that. Hard to win an arms race with the whole ass kicking in Ukraine dragging ye down.
Some people still think Russia has unlimited tanks, planes, boats, artillery etc... Despite the fact they have been begging Iran and North Korea for drones & artillery and digging out ancient tanks from storage.
That 500 Himars launchers Poland ordered is just ridiculous, Poland know they are re-loadable right? For the price they paid they could have developed their own?
Nett contributor nations to the EU, including ourselves now, are indirectly funding Poland's lavish spendthrift defence budgets.
