Would love to see that building renovated and used for another purpose.
There is massive potential.
Maybe the cost of renovation would be prohibitive though.
Tresor building comes to mind. Could be a fantastic space for a decade or more while the area begins to get developed. The almost-finished Cork Events Centre (/sarcasm) would need to compete with it mind you.
The fact that its a good way out of the (current) city centre would be a bit against it ,
But theres a load if new development down there - as is pairc ui caoimhe,
And the planned cork public transport/ luas thingy ..
I wonder how tight the contracts with bam for the Beamish and Crawford site event centre are ,?
Time has made a mockery of both of city councils attempts at getting an event centre for cork city , i suppose they could go a third attempt..

I've tried to stay optimistic about the Event Centre and I liked its central location, but at this point it is very unlikely to proceed.
If it can be moved to the docks and built quickly that would be great. A lot of the docklands have already been allocated to housing, etc at this point though

It wouldn't be too bad a location, you'd really want it a little bit away from the residential areas for as long as possible. Our licensing laws would be the biggest challenge I'd say. That and the event centre being at "such an advanced stage".

Nightclubs and art space, and events hall, and record store, and mastering studio etc. Basically a post-industrial space co-opted for performance and art.
Printworks in London, Trouw in Amsterdam, Elementenstraat in Amsterdam, Berghain/Saule in Berlin, Warehouse Project Manchester etc. It's quite easy to rework these turbine halls and warehouse type spaces as short or medium term event spaces.

Clearing work has started on the old CPM site beside Musgrave Park.
All the trees in this image have been cleared and there is equipment on site - more clearance work inside. from what I could see when driving past. Hard to see exactly what type of eqpt is inside.
Is this for the new development of apartments etc? Big project if it is!
600 apartments got planning there but then got pulled up in a judicial review. No further reports on the case in the media.

They've blocked the application for 45 apartments nearby at Dennehy's Cross for similar reasons (upheld by ABP) - a scaled back plan for 30 apts still awaiting decision. CorkCC planning do seem to be oblivious to the current accommodation crisis when you look at some of their decisions.
Victoria Cross Road and Carrigrohane Road are filling up with 5-10 storey buildings. Model Farm Road should be the same, at least east of Bishopstown Avenue. These refusals make zero sense. It's one of the main roads in the city. It might be full of big plot detatched houses, but it shouldn't be. What would the council prefer here?
Those big plot houses have something general plebs don't have.

There been some grounds clearing on the Finbar Galvin site recently, but there's no update on the ABP application, so I think it might be just general cleaning rather than indications of something more substantial.
Bit of Not Another Hotel pushback and I can see their point. There's very little that isn't eating, drinking or hotel left, and city centre venues that teens and kids can go to. Everything revolves around adults.
Yeah I'd be the same. I don't even mind another hotel, but it seems like this is one of the few places around for younger people.
People will moan then about teens "hanging around" the city centre.

It’s happening all over the city…. If they were building 5 bedroom luxury houses to be sold at 1m plus they wouldn’t be objecting.
That’s a fairly ludicrous objection. The 5-story apartments are to be constructed in the northern half of the site, i.e. the part closest to Skehard Road. The southern half of the site is a single row of 2-story houses, no taller than the homes of the objectors in Clover Hill, and there’s a sizeable green space between those houses and the apartments. Overall, it seems like a very unaggressive and balanced development. I can’t see how ABP would block it.
Have they now dropped the Aldi part of it, ie all residential ? - the 1970's house has long been demolished
