That one is so good. It makes a nice addition to spinach. I added plenty of garlic here, with golden raisins and mixed nuts.

On your "recommendation" I went and got some of the mixed pickle (Patak's). I've had it before but not for a few years, asked a local shop and they got it in for me. Tried a spoonful of it and thought it was a bit salty which is exactly how I remembered it. Decided it wasn't that great but thought I better try some more to check..... you know where this is going... a couple of hours later I'd tried over half the jar. Think I must like it?

Still can't beat that chille pickle, it has just so many things right about the flavours.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Yeah, I agree with you. The mixed is decent, a bit fruity, but the chilli one has a lot of the sour mustardy flavours that I love.

Oh, for Indian pickles, check out the Mayil brand. I haven't bought any yet (not available in the city centre here), but I had one of their onion pickles in a get-together meal in the home of one of my friends from Kerala. Really nice, not so much hot but salty and tasty!

Made another batch of this. Used 5 x habaneros instead of 10. 10 would be far too hot.

Its great on nearly everything though, eggs, tacos, wraps, sambos, wings, ribs, spatchcock chicken

That looks good. I think I'll go make some for gifting this year.

Probably already mentioned on this thread, but Im quite a fan of the tabasco habanero sauce. I sent a tweet to tobasco "complaining" about their leaky bottles, because I was onto my third bottle in about 6 weeks.

I like to grow my own chillies, though Ive put that on hold for now as I'll be moving house sometime in the new year. As soon as I have a decent crop again I'm going to have a go at making my own sauce.

Came here to post about this.

My tastes are very hot by Irish standards and I found this had a kick. Went straight out to get another few jars.

Ah no... (I was never a big fan tbh, but still)

Sad alright. I wasn’t a big customer and they wouldn’t have survived on my custom alone but they were a very established brand so sash to see them go.

Just back from UK and bought a few of these two in Morrisons

    Untitled Image

Really like the original and find it hot enough so can't wait to try the extra hot!

    Untitled Image

Both dead cheap at around £1.50 a bottle.

Sorry to hear that. But to be honest, I'm surprised that they lasted as long as they did without investment!

Disappointing. Their Chillionaire packed a punch.

The health shop in Carrigaline just got it in (I've been on the lookout for it since you mentioned it). Wow, very nice indeed. A nice kick and plenty of flavour.

    (Pataks Chilli pickle)

^^^^^ Reminds me of another slightly off topic hot food item. Lidl have a microwave rice that is labeled as a Limited edition very hot spicy rice, can't remember the exact name. But its good and hot, too hot for a lot of people ;-)

Those health shops probably order from the same wholesaler so I guess they can get the rest of the Pataks Pickles if you want them.

Mics new Desert Island hot sauce, consisting of Yellow Scotch Bonnet, Mango & Pineapple : https://www.micschilli.com/webstore/desert-island

I haven't tried it. I wonder how it compares to @The Nal 's version? 😉

Ingredients look similar, he has garlic instead of cumin and lemon instead of lime. Way more pineapple in the one I made.

Thanks for the reminder anyway was due a batch!

I've always bought the Huy Fong brand but Mrs Beer bought Flying Goose brand recently. NOT the same thing at all. FG is more akin to a sweet chilli sauce. Very sweet, not very hot and no vinegar. Will have to replace 😐

Apparently, this is the original sriracha, and it's good stuff. Very tasty.

Mental prices from their website. Trouble in Trinidad was €15 when I looked at it a couple of weeks ago… yet only €8.50 in SuperValu.

That's bonkers from Mic's, silly pricing. Nope!!

A novel one from CB. Nice fruitiness from the papaya, and that instant tongue scorch from the habanero, but not too hot… "Sauce for a cause", clever. Funds a toothbrush for a child in Kenya.

    Mr. Bell's, Cork.

    Saga continues.

Mrs beer came home with another bottle of sriracha....... the very same flying goose brand as last time.

So, I went shopping. I found the one you pictured above in Mr. Bell's and it's very nice, maybe a tad sweet, but nice. I decanted it into an empty Huy Fong bottle as I think it keeps way better with that kind of top.

I also added a little vinegar and some very hot homemade chilli sauce to the first bottle of flying goose at it's really much more to my taste now!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 14,009 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

It is a tad sweet, @the beer revolu; I like to use it as a condiment, as an alternative to the likes of ketchup, rather than as an ingredient.

Nice on a cheese toastie. 👍️

Forgot to add that there seems to be supply issues with the Huy Fong Sriracha. Didn't see it in any shop I was in yesterday. I think I read somewhere that he has fallen out with his jalapeño supplier which could affect global supplies.

Came across this crowd and their prices seem very reasonable. Just wondering if anyone has ever bought from them and what the quality is like?

    Recommendations:

El Yucateco - Chili Habanero Black label is the business as far as a regular, day-to-day sauce goes.

Encona - Carolina Reaper is dynamite @The Continental Op, same crowd as the west indian one you mentioned earlier

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 14,009 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

I do like the El Yucateco sauces; I found the black label one very smokey, if I remember correctly; a bit too much for general use.

    From the Sauceshop website:

Do you ship to the EU?

No, (but sort of yes) … Brexit caused a few problems so we’re still working it all out.

We don’t offer it on our website as standard, but we can price it up for customers who are willing to pay the shipping costs (can range between £20-£50) and any import duties.

If that’s what you’re happy with, get in contact via info@sauceshop.co.

Wholesale trade customers can purchase through Faire.

You could try Firebyrd in Dublin for your hot sauce needs. They sell a wide range https://firebyrd.ie/shop/

Wow thanks for that link to Firebyrd, never heard of them before. What a range!

Cholula. 2 quid in Aldi. My bottle with a best before of 2019 finally in the bin. Was only a dribble left.

Im seeing places selling it for 4 or 5 quid which is ridiclous.
