You could be the best lawyer in the world and still fail to argue some of Trump's positions if you are arguing the law because they're fundamentally wrong. You could be a great mathematician and still fail to prove that 1+1=3 in a way that the mathematical community would accept, and you'll look quite stupid in the process.
As I say, Habba is not necessarily a top lawyer, but if she really doesn't know how basic court procedures work, that isn't 'not very bright', that's 'how the f@ck did you make it through law school, become a law clerk and open your own law firm and keep it open???!'. I don't believe her to be the smartest person in the world, but surely not that dumb or unpracticed either.
My argument is that it isn't that most of the big players in Trump's orbit over the last 8 years or so don't know their business. It's just that they don't care. Many decided to step off the train, and they were suddenly reasonable people again. A few didn't or have not yet, and while that is the case, they're surely going to look pretty dumb, such is the kind of arguments they're tasked with putting forward on behalf of their man.
Question: Does anyone in America who gets sued for loads of money like Giuliani has been ever actually pay any of it?
Alex Jones is another one who was sued for, like, a billion dollars, but somehow he still appears to have a house, a car, clothes and his show and so on.
It must just be that if you can hire lawyers to appeal these things, or you hire a creative accountant, you can essentially circumvent these penalties.
It certainly appears that if you have enough immediate access to money to fund a lawyer you can keep kicking the can down the road via appeals etc. seemingly indefinitely.
But it's that short term access to cash that's crucial - Jones at least has cash-flow from his TV show and the various "vitamins" he sells via the show so he can keep his lawyers paid.
Rudi doesn't have cash-flow and I don't think he has anyone that will give him a dig out , so he might hit the wall a lot sooner than most.
Declare bankruptcy might be another way out.
Is declaring bankruptcy a magic ticket to getting off all debts forever?
@Quin_Dub
If you have a short-term cash flow that allows you pay for more than the basic necessities of living, why isn't there some kind of legal onus placed on using that money to pay the damages first, I wonder?
Oh I know what he was saying. I just wanted to see if he'd commit himself to putting his abhorrent beliefs clearly in text. But it's more of the same. They will twist themselves in knots linguistically to avoid owning their beliefs and what they are. And assuming he follows every other defender of Trump, he will ignore it, say it sarcasm, say we are triggered without addressing what he meant etc. Total cowards, the lot of them. Trump just allows them to feel their beliefs have any sort of merit. That's one of the reasons why his supporters will keep supporting him. He's the conduit for their hate.
There probably is , but if you beat it to the punch by giving the money to a lawyer to get a stay on things pending appeal you keep the can moving down that road.
That was the moral of the story in A Civil Action (1998), you can have all the facts on your side but money wins in the end, and when the person breaking the law can keep making piles of money while the lawsuits/prosecutions are in limbo, appealed, appealed, re-filed, etc. you can't beat them if you can't float yourself money to survive the proceedings. They just use money to make the problem go away.
E Jean Carroll trial postponed (potential covid outbreak)
Case adjourned at the request of Habba
My projection is Trump will neither win the election or see jail time. It would logistically be a mess to organise jailing him.
Habba was using Trump's golf course in NJ. That's where they met. She got 2 million if I remember correctly off him, upfront. No legal firm of any sort of decent rep will represent him any longer. Even during his presidency, top law firms kept denying his requests to represent him. Too much of a liability. He's stuck with the nobodies now.
Probably wouldn't have been as compelling a motion except a juror said they were feeling "hot and nauseous"
(Maybe the mobsters got to one of the jurors)
Was Rudy farting in the courtroom again?
What's a 'Full Blooded American?'
Why would they object to Kamala Harris as POTUS?
January 6, 2021: “It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next,” McConnell said
January 2024: ‘I mean… what’s an ‘insurrection,’ anyway?'
Absolute craven lickspittles that are placing their power & party above their nation.
A big part of the reason they sent that Amicus brief is because quite a few of them would also be excluded from Office for exactly the same reason were the court to determine that Colorado had the right to exclude Trump under the 14th Amendment.
I would expect a deluge of submissions for Cruz , Hawley , Jordan , Comer and many more , so this is just an act of slimy self-preservation more than anything else.
with that much riding on it the captured justices are likely to hand them a W
America is so fucked, frankly I don't know what to do.
The continuation of Mochas with MAGA
E Pluribus Unum.
People across the political spectrum agree that MAGA is unfit for office.
"Those people are against me and are therefore the enemy." "We are persecuted by them".
It's amazing how simple it is.
That one guy defending Trump's logic to try and disrupt the electoral process,
"...'if we don't feel that it was a fair and honest election, then I won't leave office.'"
I'm sorry... if you don't 'feel'?
Well, honey....
Sweetie....
Biden won the 2020 US presidential elections.
None of Trump's legal team could prove any significant election fraud.
At least one Republican partisan audit increased the vote tally for Joe Biden.
And in the words of Ben Shapiro,
But isn't it oh so amazing how quickly Trump supporters became so, so attuned to feelings when it came to what they felt to be true?
ohhh speaking of Bennie!
Ben vs. Ben: "We've become so comfortable with the executive branch abusing our citizens and violating our rights ... If we start treating them as criminals then maybe we will start treating them like criminals"
Stefanik desperate to be Trump's next tool
What a clown, what a clown. He confuses [former President] Barack Obama. He thinks he’s running against Barack Obama, Elise, and you know it. And if you say anything otherwise, you’re lying through your teeth. He confused Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi on January the 6th. And if you say anything else, you’re lying through your teeth. For what? He’s not going to pick you as vice president. Give up the ghost, Elise Stef-a-nik.
It's the same like/con told through history. However rather a lot of people want to fall for the lie as the "leader" invariably allows them to partake in their beliefs which currently, most functional adults would agree are abhorrent and the lie/con allows them to blame others for what may be there own poor lifestyle choices. They want the fantasy.
looks like the way to stop the next insurrection is to install turnstiles at the Capitol
Such brave men afraid to show their faces.
The "master race", ladies and gentlemen.
What on earth were white nationalists doing in New York of all places?
Embarrassing themselves.
Right wing twitter is trying to disavow them. Too much secondhand embarrassment.
Farting now is it ?
So thats pooping in ones pants, wetting the floor, bad body odour, small penis, small hands, syphilis, sleeping disorders, mentioned in the last week.
Critical thinking at its best, intellectually stimulating, makes Viz magazine look like The Economist.
