How do people feel about this one? Will it be short and sweet?

Ring in sick.
"Firstly, negotiating with every non-union employee is practically impractical."
Eh this is how its done in the almost the entirety of the private sector.
They mean it scuppers their position
Only certified sick leave is allowed.
Maybe they should have thought about the risks when they decided not to join the union? It's their problem to manage.
A family member was working for AIB during the bank strike of 1976. I remember a discussion about twenty years later, suggesting that they still remembered exactly who the strike breakers were, and treated them accordingly.
You're entitled to a certain number of uncertified sick leave. Can they amend this as suits? A sick note is not difficult to get either. There's really no excuse for a public servant to cross a picket line while they colleagues are trying to help then get better terms and conditions. It really is the lowest of the low.
Well its not nothing. Forsa membership could affect a mortgage approval amount by up to 2000 euro. And of course the added loss of the annual fees, of up to 425 euro is it? A few years of that is not insignificant.
My post wasn't specifically about mortgage applicants, they're just one example. You might have no idea why somebody doesn't join a union.
Whatever they have going on, I'm sure they'll be devastated that you're disappointed in them anyway.
Disciplinary issues of non-members are no concern of any union and never will be.
No bother. We'll all pay extra for the skimpers
Not true
Former PSEU grades don't get any optical/dental benefits which the CPSU used to have.
Yes
Uncertified sick leave is a privilege not a right.
Why are we talking about non-members as if they are hard done by? They made a choice, choices have consequences same as the choice to join a union means paying contributions and possibly being obliged to take part in strike action. They don't have a vote on the subject of this thread, but free-ride on the outcome.
Pretty much. They sponge off everyone else, get the benefit of our payments (inflated because they are not in), and the only thing they have to deal with is how to not f*ck the rest of us over, more, by crossing the line.
Anyone else get the mail asking about discussing actions?
On Unions, can someone point me in the right direction to sign up to the right Union. We don't hear much about that at all in work but I would like to join. HEO.
The only union you can join is Forsa. You can join through the website.
Fórsa represents all grades at HEO level and below.
AHCPS represents all grades at AP and above.
Yes, Pascal is going to sit down with each and every public sector body to discuss the wage budget for the year. Good idea.
SIPTU starts at 1.90 a week
That's his job.
19 unions are at the talks and he leaves 15 of them out of the talks. When I say leaves .... Donohoe doesn't even turn up himself. Hasn't got the balls to. He gets senior civil servants to do it instead.
It's still a protected right to join or not join a union.
I can't see anyone saying non members were hard done by. We make a decision and I'm happy to live with it. People suggesting calling in sick. I'm not going to call in sick if I'm not sick.
If union members voted for the current deal as bad as it is, I'd have to live with it just like I did with the last deal offered and accepted. Not to mention the disaster that was croke park with older members willing and ready to shaft new entrants on lower pay.
So much for the so called "free ride"
If you think it makes sense for every teacher in the country to be able to negotiate their own salary and every school to negotiate their wage budget with the Department of Education and the Department of Education to negotiate their wage budget yearly, then ok. Now multiply that by every public sector body.
I think that’s incredibly impractical.
Probably because its the senior civil servants who actually run the country.....
Won't it be easy enough to cross a picket line these days if you are wfh?
Not the union's job to manage it.
I worked for a company with 80,000 employees. They managed unions and individual bargains well enough
As I mentioned above, management will most likely issue a direction that WFH requests for days that are not already part of an agreed WFH pattern be denied..
im glad you agree it’s impractical. Moving on…
The structure of a private company is entirely different. Youre fully aware of this and arguing in bad faith.
How's it impractical
I just said that a private company with 80,000 is able to handle it just fine.
Other mega companies try not to have unions, and "deal" individually.
I take it that you've never worked for a huge company?
Your response indicated you agreed it was impractical.
I edited my post above but you replied prior. The structure of a private company is entirely different. You’re aware of this and arguing in bad faith.
Further to this, it would be undesirable. You wouldn’t want School A poaching teachers from School B with better wage offers. You can extend this analogy to other sectors.
Pay scales are entirely logical and more practical in the public sector.
Hasn’t got the balls to? lol. Yeah those unions fellas are scary guys. Very good at negotiating too.
Thats exactly what happened ten years ago with An Bord Snip Nua.

Fun fact: Paschal's title isnt the Minister for Expenditure, its actually the Minister For Expenditure And Reform.
RTé and the rest of the gravy trainers in the public sector dont call him that anymore for some reason...
You reckon a once off it comparable and justification for doing it yearly?
