Sunsynk (DEYE) Hybrid Inverters

I wonder if anyone on here installed any Deye/Sunsink (they might actually be the same thing/clone) on single phase that can draw up to 200A from the batteries, the 7 or 8 kw versions. One of these would be handier (cheaper too) to install than multiple sofars, you need 3 to get 200A.

Would the 8kw inverter even be "allowed"/certified for Ireland
Wonder if that 190A charge/discharge limit is what Solis do with their 100A and then limited to 70A after 15mins (still from a drop from 190A to 100A is still plenty to cover 95% of scenarios)
Are the the Deyes any reliable?
How's the automation with them? You can buy some software from here https://solar-assistant.io/ that runs on a pi and gives you real time values but I suspect there's a ton of other ways to integrate with Home Assistant as well courtesy of github etc

It can connect via serial modbus or via the Solarman Wifi adapter. It is an addon for home assistant though (so HA is needed)

Manual was incorrect with the CAT5 cable pinout, tried several combinations, was about to give up, one last try with the last suggestion from @graememk - and then it worked 😀

Readings are perfect, this is the first time ever that my readings are spot on the same as the Myenergi clamp on the incomer (that I know is correct)

So, for anyone else out there, we were using the T568B standard of CAT5 cable pinout. Standard crimped plug in "RS485" labelled port of Sunsynk (bottom right of the six ethernet ports), then pin 5 - blue white, (RS485 A) and pin 6 blue (RS485 B) on the meter (that is the utmost left pin 5 and the second from the left pin 6)

RS485A is 5, RS485B is 6

Pin 5 on this is (blue white) is rs485A, Pin 4 (Blue) is rs485B

I have the 3.6KW inverter, I don't charge my batteries from the grid but during peak sun in the summer months the temp on the AC side was hitting over 70 degrees, so similar to yourself I installed two PC type fans blowing air across the heatsink and this reduced the temp by 20-30 degrees

I only need to run them in the summer months but defo worth having for peace of mind although I'd imagine there is a safety shutdown for the occasion where it gets too hot to operate safely

Some inverters will derate the power going through them when they get too hot. As in less power is produced. Huawei do that at least and others said the same about theirs during the hot summer months. People see that with inverters in attics in very hot weather when there is a lot of solar generation at the same time.

Hey, did your Deye arrive yet? I'm making a similar to do list for mine although isn't due for a couple of months yet. Just wondering does it come with all the connectors for the solar strings or will I need to order some? Or will the MC4 ones on my current solis work?

Deye doesn't use mc4, there are wago like levers in its connection panel.

You could make cables with MC4 to connect your current mc4 connections, or snip them off and wire in direct. (Make sure everything is isolated, prove dead, etc etc.

Problem with mine yesterday, tried connecting earth to one of the ends of the CT connection and then the CT reading stopped working pretty much. Tried several different CT clamps (all from myenergi mind, none form Sunsynk), re-connecting the CT wires into those finnicky connetsions, making sure they were in properly. None of it working. So it seems an actual physical problem with the CT connector block or on the back end of it. Did a full power cycle of the inverter after trying every different setting.

So borrowed an Eastron meter from @SD_DRACULA, hopefully getting it fitted soon. The good thing is that with these inverters you can switch to allow export and then set max sell power, so kinda still running off battery, albeit manual

I presume it has an export limitation function? Using that on the Solis at present and it works well in summer when I would be exporting more than the allowed 6kW otherwise.

I ordered the Eastron SDM120CT from Ali. It arrived. I upgraded my Rcb0 to 40A and also upgraded the cable between the CU and Isolator to 10sq (working with 10sq is a workout in itself 😀).

Now just need the most important piece….the inverter

With the really cold snap and limited solar I haven’t been able to charge my battery (40kwh and Sofar 6kw) beyond 60% during my 4 hour EV rate.

The Deye with 8.8kw should probably get me close to 90%

This is from yesterday (charging car and battery on 16kva from 2am to 6am). As you can see the battery hits 20% around 8pm.

Here is today where it’s not as cold plus a little solar. Battery will probably see me through close to midnight.

Anyone with a deye/sunsynk can let me know if for the diy battery we need to change these values?

The reason I ask is because the sunsynk had the Empty battery value set at 45v (could only find this in the app) and it stopped the battery discharging before the jkbms value of 42v (worked fine after I lowered it to 42v on the sunsynk also)

I had been asked by someone did the solarman "driver" for for the HA sunsynk add on (uses the wifi dongle that comes with it)

And can confirm that it works fine, no extra hardware needed.

Just put in the IP of the wifi dongle, and its serial number to the config. and everything works as expected.

I think I will stay with my own external Modbus bridge. But useful to know for others.

Has anyone got anywhere near the 200a (185a in fact) charge limit when charging from the grid?

For me it tops out at around 7.5kw/150a not only with the diy cells but also with my dyness (which were rated 200a) so I'm blaming the inverter.

What's the max Ac kw charge rate?

To get the max 200 amp rate if the charge kw is 8800 watts then the battery voltage would need to stay at 44v, as soon as the voltage rises the current drops.

Looking at the specs they don't make sense unless the 190a only applies to DC charging because 8000w is not 190a

The bms reporting charging at 7.7kw which is about right for 8000w max AC.

Now onto the voltages

Surely all that matters is that you're getting the max Ac charge and discharge rates in kw. It doesn't matter if you're getting the max current as your inverter will only give you 8kw anyway.
