Another new Ryanair Max-800
Point taken, that's what it was. ADSB seems to need two clicks on the aircraft before the path loads fully.
It's a cargo aircraft 🙄
First time I have ever heard of the airline privileged style, they currently have a A330 operating an Air Lingus flight from Dublin to Washington.
Been doing it for the last week or so I think.
They're a regular charter in during the summer for EI
They only have a small number of aircraft.
They have a 757 operating for aerlingus too I think.
The 757 has been retired (to Knock, as it happens) but the airline has a couple of A321s now instead.
Ethiopian B767F due Dublin later this evening: https://www.flightradar24.com/ETH3725/3364ef29
FR7726 ACE-ORK holding at cork now with about half an hour (edit: now going to Shannon), FR6589 ORK to LPL also waiting to depart.
9:30pm reports gives a wind of 230° 27kts gusting 45kts.
FR7726 diverting by the looks of it
Yup, gone to Shannon, KL1069 from Amsterdam holding now behind it (now diverting to Dublin), and the FR to LPL hasn't gone anywhere.
10pm wind 230° 27kts gusting 43kts.
You'd miss the air traffic control feed from cork.
I know someone on the plane bound for Liverpool. Losing the will to live at this stage, I'd say!
The Edinburgh plane was just about to land. Last minute decision go back up.
Bad night in Cork. 4 divertions and another couple of flights approaching
Edinburgh diverted to Shannon after attempting to land in Cork. LHR landed. Probably a bumpy landing.
Fair play to the Aer Lingus for getting in. And the Liverpool outbound is still sitting there..
I noticed the EI A320 Neo came in, first go and the RYR's are experiencing difficulties.
Is the A320 Neo more capable in these conditions, does anyone know.
FR from BVA just landed in Cork. Hopefully the LPL gets going.
Just left Cork.
Max crosswind component on the 320 is 37kts, 73 is 32kts
More bad cross winds in Cork at the moment. FR Malaga has diverted to Dublin. FR Alicante just aborted a landing and is now holding
EDIT: Alicante looks to be heading towards Dublin now. KLM from Amsterdam now holding.
And KLM gone around and diverting to Shannon now too.
Not a day to be flying into Cork.
I flew home from Malaga via aer lingus today, aborted landing and circled around for a 20 minutes. fair play to the aer lingus pilot for his flying because he was very determined to get into Cork airport today. and it was hairy at times. i heard the ryanair from malaga to cork had to be diverted to dublin so i am thrilled that we weren't diverted
If Cork's second runway was extended would it have helped over the last few days?
Absolutely. That east-west runway would have been fine in these conditions. I don't know the practicalities or the possibilities of ever doing it, but it surely should be a priority in Cork. That said, for the comparatively few times that we have diversions due to westerly winds, would it ever be justifiable thesedays?
Lot of populated areas from Carrigtwohill to Little Island to Maryborough Hill (the M28 whingers) who would all be under the flightpath on westerly arrivals.
seems ryanair are much more likely to divert than try a second time?
Fumes reported on board.
I can remember Aer Lingus Airbus aircrafts landing on the short runway during similar conditions, coming in from the west, around 20 years ago. Must have been a big cross wind coming from the east
Landing distance on 07 at Cork is 1,301m/4,300ft. Dublin's 11/29 (now gone) was similar, at 1,357m and I once saw an Iberia A300 land on it, albeit in very strong westerly winds. 😮
Bit more info about it here
