I don't think anyone wants open conflict with Iran. It serves no purpose, it would consume vast resources they don't want to use for that. It's not a winnable conflict for anyone involved.

I never said they did. I said the only time they could claim self defense was due to the attack on Pearl Harbour, if you wish to include the other attacks fair enough.
