Nah I do the same thing.
Completely replaced my Ulster Bank account with Revolut now. I've been getting my salary deposited into Revolut for over a year now. There was a bit of a hiccup when they moved from Lithuanian to Irish IBANs but that wasn't really Revolut's fault.
The Pay Later feature is also handy to help to stagger larger purchases too.
I don’t think Pay to card is supported in Ireland.
Hi,
met a guy yesterday who was given a Christmas tip by Revolt link. He is not a revolut user and tried to have the money added to 2 different AIB debit cards.
Any ideas as to why it is not working?
I waited it out and eventually, it exceeded the fee charge (I think I made a whopping 90c!)
I have the same, small amount left but fee to sell it is more than the amount. I'm just leaving it there.
If you buy more to sell the balance you'll be paying to buy it & again to sell it so no point. I just removed the crypto option on the app so atleast I don't see it when I open the app.
True, my savings are elsewhere.
Obviously in Ireland Revolut are not competitive for deposit rates at the moment.
That would be similar to my usage. It's my main current account, with salary going in each fortnight, then going out to pay bills and credit cards fairly quick, so the actual balance is rarely over a grand, maybe a bit more in a couple of pockets too.
Anyone know how to get rid of tiny amounts of crypto on Revolution? I have some small balances that I want to remove, but looks like I would have to buy some to have enough balance to then sell them and pay €1.99 each way. Tried donating to charity but doesn’t seem to be an option.
gotcha, thanks.I was actually able to cancel without break fee by clicking "Unhappy with my plan" (I think that was the option I selected.)
It’s a 12 month contract, that’s the break fee. Clear in the t&cs when you sign up.
When they announced the price increase last month, you could downgrade for free if you selected “because of the price increase” (I can’t remember the exact wording). I doubt it exists for you as you signed up after the announcement (I assume).
the price increase is from next month but may have been from day one for you.
Is this normal? Got the metal plan for a month but now want to cancel it:
Yeah, I use it as my main bank with salary credited etc butvsuspect I'm in the minority. Not just in Ireland but in all the markets they serve.
For a global bank that's a very small deposit base.
Tried various amounts €100, €50 , €30 same result each time
How much are you trying to top up by,
I know in the early days of revoult your first few top ups had to be small i.e €50 And the restriction would be lifted after a few uses of the card,
I remember it wouldnt let me top up with €100 for the first time use
Not sure if this is still the same now?
I thought that too, divide 15bn/26m customers and that’s about €600 per customer?
I’m aware they wouldn’t have the same reach as a traditional bank but it goes to show a lot of people don’t trust Revolut with large sums, of course the lack of interest bearing accounts is probably a massive part.
Thank you,I’ll follow up
AIB are blocking the transactions. You'll need to ring them
The $15.5bn in deposits is a lot lower than I thought it would be.
Some stats from the email they sent about their 2022 report...
Our latest annual report lifts the lid on another year of impressive growth for Revolut, globally. It includes significant achievements like:
Thought 2023 would be a quiet year for us? Nope. We’ve built on our 2022 success to deliver bigger and better products to customers all over the world. So here’s some of our main achievements:
* Revolut is the most downloaded finance app in the UK, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, and Malta as of November 2023
If anyone could point me in the right direction with this issue, it would be appreciated, new to Revolut , got ac validated online and downloaded the app.
Trying to add money, tried via Apple Pay, got payment failed notification!
then via debit card - same issue, then via AIB, app connected with AIB, I put in a transfer, truelayer.com window opened but page keeps spooling.
No payment credited , Revolut app says “payment reverted” “sent without reverence” the transfer then anrrived back in my bank anccount, anyone know if this is a Revolut, AIB bank issue? Or have I missed something?
There are sufficient cleared funds in the AIB account
Seemingly (not an apple user myself) some iPhones have a capability to use Apple Pay even when the battery is too low to use the phone in a normal fashion, never mind requiring a signal: https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/security/sec90cd29d1f/web
Both systems are deliberately architected and designed to not require connectivity from the customer device, though they do so by different means.
Apple/Google Pay doesn’t require an internet connection. Two years working retail I quickly noticed this is a common misconception!
Ye,I'm sure it went not that long ago
If its added to Google/Apple Pay, of course.
Can you use the virtual card instore without internet connection?
They're not observing NY hours only though. Or do you really think money markets open in NY at 6pm on a Sunday evening (when the charge ceases)? It just happens that they're expressing the times relative to NY, and maybe NY is the westernmost (and thus latest-running) market available to them, but the end time on Sunday evening is the opening of the markets in a country much further east.
I'm sure if they cited say 5pm on Friday evening in NY until 9am Monday in Sydney we'd have complaints that they were being deliberately confusing by working in two different time zones. Not to mention that it's far easier to implement such rules programmatically when it's all done relative to a single timezone!
Revolut doesn’t just trade in NY. It trades on any open market at any given time. It only passes on the cost for the brief period where no market is open. It very clearly makes sense.
Not really given they seem to be observing NY hours only, as you correctly say the markets are open outside of NY hours elsewhere even when it's the weekend in NY or even Dublin.
Anyway...like others have said it's always been there.
It has always been there and to be fair to Revolut, it is clearly documented in their documentation about foreign exchange - or at least was when I first started using Revolut a few years ago. I'm not a cheerleader for banks, but in this instance, to call the charge sneaky is rather unfair. The charge makes perfect sense. Easily avoided by doing your exchange during the week.
It’s always been there. It might have been 0.5% initially and I’m not sure it was explicitly shown in the app but they definitely have added a percentage to exchange transactions at the weekend for as long as they’ve been active
