How do people feel about this one? Will it be short and sweet?

A little cracker 😂
I'd sooner that those on lower incomes get more than me, alot in the unions seem to forget who we are there to protect. I'd take a lower increase if it meant the lower grades got either more points on the scale or were dragged up more.
An extension means its part of the same agreement.... Its very clear what Ibunnae was referring too.
There was no "agreement" triggered as part of a review. A review clause was triggered which lead to a renegotiation and extension of an existing agreement. You claim I have "magic maths", its seems you can add magic english to that too
but there is basic etiquette as to how posters post and reply
Yeah, there is supposed to be.
And calling posters insulting names is not part of that etiquette.
"Attack the post, not the poster".
So would I. I'd take a deal similar to Germany agreed, which was 5.5%, but with a guaranteed minimum per month for every worker.
But apparently the mindset here is if you pay lower grades more, you're disincentivising them from working harder, and devaluing the higher grades.
Well there has to be a gap of some sort really. It's just logical. Otherwise if we reduce the difference between pay scales of grades then those grades will become redundant. And we all know we need the different grades with the different role profiles to ensure we get tasks done.
So a pay rise for the lower paid and a pay cut for me? No thanks!
Back on topic… anyone read any news or rumours of what’s coming out of the talks today?
It's unfair for COs to be able to afford rent if I can't have my 2nd car ngl.
It’s unfair for any of us to receive an effective pay cut.
Pay talks finished until New Year I believe.
Yep disappointing , will have to hold off on my jetpack purchase.

So don't be a CO too long.
Almost every 'high paid' public servant started at lower grades.
So why did they start so late? FF/FG never wanted a deal.
Certainly not true in the Dept I work in. I've seen a big change in the last 5 years with PO's and AP's coming in from the private sector.
You have to laugh - after pages of "How is any increase a pay cut?" Now, if it is even suggested that everyone get a guaranteed minimum increase like in the case of the German deal, it's a pay cut to the higher paid.
A paycut of income they never even had in the first place!
Its nothing but begrudgery. God forbid the hardest hit get a bit more.
Some should have a read of this, and pay special attention to the impact inflation has had on lower income families over the last two years.
Most then?
and of those coming from the private sector, who is to say they weren't on less money there
I can see why one group of workers might not like a less percentage increase than another.
What’s the purpose of the tax system in Ireland then?
why should only a portion get inflation equalling increases and not others?
I struggle to pay my mortgage as much as the next person. I wasn’t lucky enough to fix at a low rate. I also don’t have anyone to help me with it. So I should be hit with high interest rates and an effective pay cut while other get larger increases? Stop with your nonsense.
Everyone's tax situation is different. I get taxed up to the hilt as a single person because I am unmarried. Tough luck on me.
Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth, Bren. You can't make up your mind what side you're on.
(edited for spelling).
Funny how inflation drops when pay talks begin. I don't believe inflation has dropped.
Where exactly am I contradicting myself?
Why do you want to punish the middle income earner more? What exactly is the purpose of the tax system? Lower paid workers see more of their percentage increase than higher paid. I’ve zero issue with that. I’ve an issue when you want to further advantage the lower paid worker.
and I’ll ask again, how am I speaking out of both sides of my mouth? Where am I contradicting myself?
not everyone on this thread is as inflexible as you are when it comes to a discussion.
So industrial action is it? Or does the unions threats mean nothing?
Yeah and not the first time they said that either. How anyone can describe a pay deal that leaves you with a lower standard of living at the end of it than you had at the start of it in such a fashion beats me.
And you're incapable of maintaining civility during any discussion, so I shall continue to ignore your demands that I engage with you.
Night night. 😘
Very unlikely they were on less money there and you know it!
Be interesting to hear what will come out of ICTU tomorrow. The Unions appeared quite confident last week, their silence now suggests the confidence is gone, I wonder have DPER thrown a few figures out and the Unions aren’t happy.
DPER knows the appetite for a strike isn’t there.
The Unions know an appetite for a strike isn’t there.
The appetite for a work-to-rule would be there though and would have consequences for the election that’s coming.
I would have thought that a 18 month deal would be an easy sell to members and the public due to recent high inflation but surely DPER are pointing at lower inflation and saying that “we’re looking to the future now, you’ve had your increases over the last few years that took high inflation into account…”
Both sides seem very quiet… can’t work out yet if that’s confidence or lack of.
https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/public-sector-pay-deal-may-not-be-brokered-before-christmas/a1595035382.html. Jaysis I don’t understand how these things work. No discussions whatsoever on pay yet apparently. That just seems hilarious to me.
Yeah I haven’t a clue what’s going on with it at this stage. Still hopeful we might hear something before Christmas but that is very unlikely now at this stage.
