Rear-end loader

Reggie.

Got abit of a notion,

I'm currently feed about 30 bales a year to a outwinter feeder about every 6 days.

Currently borrowing a tractor and loader for the job but hate borrowing anything.

Don't need a a loader and the cost of them gor the T6 is about 18k due to it needing the eletronic joystick.

Thinking of a back end loader that works off the lift arms. Surely that would do the job? Old machinery but could throw it on once a week to feed surely.

Just hate borrowing machinery as murphys law is that something will happen. Not enough work to justify any type of front end loader

I'd say there are lots of them lying idle in yards. I have one here, belongs to a neighbour. I did the pipes on it, it has a grab, so it can catch and lift a dry bale. Would be in trouble with a wet one. Prongs are too short. Maybe should swap out a couple. Still awkward to get netting and wrapping off the bale. I tend to lift the circular feeder, pop in the bale and drop the feeder again. Cattle would need to be the cooperative kind, or else be able to fence them back.

One problem with those rear mounted loaders is the weight of the bale is a long way back from the tractor when you start raising it, but the New Holland should cope easily with it. A lot of those loaders mightn't be designed for the weight of a modern bale, so you were probably better looking for a more recent one, that was designed for use with a shear grab. They appear on Done Deal often enough.

Why would it need to be electronic joystick? BILs T6 here has cable controls on a New Holland branded loader (Stoll rebadge)

Had a rear end Difco silage grab here. Solid well made machine but not the easiest to put on or take off, especially on a Sunday evening I found. Sold it a few yrs back. They would be ok for hay or straw but not big silage bales and def not big wet silage bales.

This is to wire into the existing joystick on the tractor?

Are you perhaps overthinking it and maybe there's room or a bracket could be fitted somewhere for a joystick that comes with the loader?

@Reggie. what about a forklift mast or one of the old ones with a shear grab. Could be done cheap with a tine graph in them. It would keep the weight close then the back of the tractor

fellows around here give in three hundred bales with a lot worse. Quick attach. I use one, no problems.

The advantage of these over the mast type is that it is easy to attach a bale trailer with it on

Would be def better than the mast one but one would want good weight on the front. No doubt front loader is the best option. That's why you'll find these, in their various guises, lying idle in a lot of yards.

Loads of those lying around in yards Reggie. I had one here up to a year ago and I let it off for small money just to get it out of way. Was a good heavy one , would have bee no ideal.

i always found it an awkward brute if a yoke and would never go back since I got the loader.

However for 18k I’d pick up a second tractor with loader. A bit old rough

Reggie, get short chains and shackles and use them to tie the two halves of the round feeder together. Open chains, lift one half around to the back of the other and drop bale. I do it here, only takes 5 mins.

I can't see why a cable type joystick won't work. Just find room for it in the cab.

The bigger armrests and screens in the NH DC, auto comm and power comm don't leave alot of space on your right side for anything other than electric controls. The spot is already built into the armset for the little joystick.

Even a second hand loader is over 10k with brackets just hard to justify one when only used a few hours total a year. When I had it on the landini it would be off for over 6 months of the year

Maybe we should change tack. what about getting bales placed before winter and moving a fence and feeder every day or so.it works well just feed from the side far away from the way you walk to the field so you are not trudging through muck and use a light round feeder.better for land too

No way could you justify a loader to feed that many bales.why not just lift the feeder so .if it's the standard type they are not heavy.

Yeah it's looking more like the option. Either that or have a half a round feeder with a fence either side and lift the bale into it with a rear spike.

Fence off the corner that the access gate is at. Just have to come up with a different plan.
