Whilst it pretty obvious that this guy doesn't value nor appreciate EV's does he still have a point?
Stg£31 and 40+ minutes for under 100 miles of range sounds horrendous.
I'm sure a Peugeot 2008 is far from cutting edge but still........
It's become very fashionable lately to have a moan about en-route charging prices in the UK. There was a whole thread (https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058320844/ev-long-distance-versus-14-year-old-diesel) on a long distance trip, I guess a bit of controversy is good for engagement so everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.
I find ev-database (https://ev-database.org/car/1584/Peugeot-e-2008-SUV)to be a reasonably accurate 3rd party website, they put the motorway cold weather range of an e2008 at around 190km.
It was always going to happen but I’m surprised they’re ending the EV toll discounts so quickly, considering barely 4-5% of the national fleet is an EV

1 year later than planned, and they hit the target number. Thread on it here https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058321829/ev-tolls-discount-may-end-dec-31-2023#latest
Charging costs are way too high if you're not charging from home. They're so high that anyone who doesn't have home charging would be taking a real financial hit over an equivalent in price/size diesel in "fuel" costs alone. Those without driveways should have better, more affordable charging options. I love my EV but without a home charger and a good rate they're just unworkable for many and that's not OK. The rest of your man's rant is Brexity/ Daily Mail style rubbish. His use of the term milk float is telling.
Does anyone know if the VRT relief for EV’s is ending this year? After some light reading on Revenue it seems like it is.
63000 miles would explain the difference maybe?
190kms range is pretty poor btw.
It depends on what you are looking for. I used to drive an e-Up! with a usable 16kWh battery. Cold motorway range according to EVDB is 65km, car suited my use case perfectly city commuting so wasn't a bother.
The e2008 is likely going to be used ferrying kids around. Not every car needs to be a motorway mileage muncher, it's good that their options out there. If your spending 99% of your time operating within home charging range then I'd rather have a smaller battery which is cheaper than something bigger and put up with the cost of a motorway rapid charge those few times when it's needed.
To me it would be like a person buying an off-roader because they park in a field a couple of times a year at a music festival, kind of pointless.
Looks like it connects to charging port on the car, car thinks it's charging and prevents car driving. Or that's my take on it? Either that or it charges the car from a couple of AA batteries!
Found a link to details
How do they get the chargeport open on the car?
Will they shout "Open your butthole" repeatedly or just force it open?
What an odd piece of kit.
It reads like EVs act like Christine when approached 🥱
Have you ever thought: "I wonder what a $150,000 classic Mini would be like?"
It's a mini for "Haves", equivalent of a very posh handbag. The size is similar too.
Can't say I have, horrid little cars, almost as bad as the dreaded beetle 😡
2 of these outside the convention centre tonight…on my way to the point 😉
didn't see this story earlier in the month
Hi
is this time of year bad to be trying to buy a used EV in the rough 10k-20k euro range?
Or is it better to wait until the new year when more cars come on the market and a “year older” ?
Probably as they’ll be more supply in Jan/Feb presuming a good few used EV’s will be traded for new cars.
You need to factor in delaying may mean delayed fuel savings. Either way you need to try get a bargain price to not overpay. I used done deal app, set up searches and alerts. "heart" any cars you are slightly interested and watch them not sell and drop price. If ad has been up for a month or two with a non dealer then you may get a deal. Be prepared to walk away. Have cash ready as sometimes true bargains are sold in 1-2 days. You can wait and supply might improve while demand may reduce but it's a buyers market at the moment with little selling. You probably want alerts set up now even if you only buy in January.
Thanks, I have an EV already, so not loosing out on fuel savings as such:)
yeah, I have my done deal etc setup, it seems to have the biggest database of cars but then you can miss some who solely choose carzone to advertise their car.
more so interested in the time of year thing, like is December a bad time to buy
Don't forget insurance and tax, I bought my first car late in the year, I was delighted, the next few years I had tax and insurance due coming up to Christmas, something I have not forgotten.
Only on weev network, mostly ni
Nobody pays dealer prices for a complete battery out of warranty. Worst case buy a used battery for say 5k. Typically they can be repaired for less than 3k. Similar cost to putting a used engine into a car where the engine has badly broken.
OP, you may not have realised that you were logged into your Evangelist account on this occasion, vs the other ones that spread the doubt and the fear?
just to elaborate - that was not only its last V8, it was BMWs last ever combustion engine built in Germany (let alone Munich HQ)
European production is now transferred to Austria or England.
The freed up space in Munich from no longer making ICE engines is being used to expand the production space as the Munich main plant will be making both ICE, Hybrid and Evs at the same time so presumably they need the extra space for the extra assembly options.
Nonsense clickbait video.
We have 2 work chargers here, a tethered single socket which only I use really and a double one which is untethered and about 3 people use that one (closer to their entrance). Untethered one is a pain in the hole compared to tethered one especially like yesterday when I got pissed taking cables out of the bag and out of the boot and plugging in.....
Is it possible to permanently leave a cable in the untethered charger for staff use. We would rig up a device to stop it being stolen of course.
Any downsides to leaving a cable permanently plugged in at charger end?
Question re: home charging speeds.
My Leaf charges at 6.7kw at home, what speed do Hyundai EVs and VW ID cars charge at at home in same charger (32a, single phase).
