How do people feel about this one? Will it be short and sweet?

As for CO and EO, new entrants (post 2011) skip points 4 and 8.
I was unaware of this.
But even so, the point being made and that still stands, is that it still takes a bloody long time to reach a half way decent wage at CO/EO level - and even AO's wont be living extravagently when they reach point 3.
You also made the mistake of counting point one as one year of service. 🤫
At the risk of sounding like a Government shill, COs can and should apply for promotion to get more money too. And if they can't in their own area they need to be looking around.
They don't have to wait 10 years. The scale is pretty much an incentive to do that.
Again, I'd be I'm favour of the starting salary being higher too sure.
You spend one year on that point, that is how I count it.
The vast vast majority do. Its a starter role. But its all oh think of the Cos on here. I do think the lower grades should get a higher increase but no point being disingenous either.
Already posted this, but approx 32% of the entire civil service are at the CO grade.
There aren't enough senior level roles for everyone to be promoted too. Not everyone is going to end up as an AP.
Eventually they're going to have to look at amalgamating some of the admin grades.
It wouldn't be the first time its been done.
Having more junior staff than senior staff isn't a problem unique to the Civil Service though.
Again I'm not saying COs shouldn't get more or yes amalgamate CO and EO or something, but it's not exactly a unique situation
If the gov have said that they have €1.8billion in next years budget for the pay deal, does that not mean that they are planning to accept 7% pay increase in 2024? And then different amounts for the following years?
No. Your 7% assumes that the increase is on day one.
If you structure the deal it could lead to a higher percentages. You can see the examples above.
Only it doesn't.
Do you really want another back and forth?
If the only variable is the discrete points in time when the increases are applied and the total amount is fixed. I'm right.
If you wanna argue the government have more then that available, be my guest.
We both know each other's opinion. Hence, what's your point here?
Ah I see. But I suppose they are planning getting atleast 7%. But depending on how they already it out and how much they actually have it could be 8 or 9%
Yeah, that's my take on it. You can add 2-3% feasibly by structuring things in different ways. It's my understanding this is where a lot of the discussions focus.
Ezeoul and others on here have a different take. You can read back a page or two and see everyone's opinion and make your own mind up.
No it isnt unique whatsover. Quite standard in fact.
No, I don't.
So stop talking spin.
Thats my point here. I don't know what yours is.
What spin?
I literally gave the guy an opinion and referred him to your posts and others. He can make his own mind up.
Seriously, you're not the gate keeper of the forum. People can have different opinions.
You said you were not going to reply to me. Go do that.
And you said you were leaving the thread, though I won't tell you to go and do that.
Guess we can both change our minds.
Fair point.
As the topic is public jobs pay, is there any other benefit public service employee gets apart from salary & pension.
Like health insurance, life insurance, long term illness support,Temporary Disability Insurance, Severance Pay, Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance.
Of course there are no stock options or commissions or overtime bonuses paid !
Does this make public job a poor choice ?
Job security is a decent one. Ive friends made redundant from banks , insurance , IT companies etc.
We don't even get a christmas party, unless we pay for it ourselves.
How long had they been made redundant for and how much higher is there annual salary when working? Plus redundant payments and welfare need to be calculated into the cost vs salary argument.
Well each example is different . But denying job security as a perk is silly.
I dont even get teabags haha
you mean like company cars, mobile phones, free bars, paid staff nights away, free canteen, fancy dinners, christmas bonus bonds, tea bags for a cup of tea etc.
that would be a no
I dont get teabags but I do get a free Christmas lunch aka party. 2 course meal with a pint (albeit I usually drive so forgo the pint).
Don't forget heating that's a no
Bring your own cardigan to work!
especially when minimum wage has just jumped 12%
havent commented before but my pure speculation is over 3 years if they get FEMPI removed unions will setting for an average of 4-5% PA with a lump sum so say a total of 12-15% over 36 months from Jan24 to Dec 26...
