Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

"RTÉ will be insolvent without a bailout of tens of millions of euro by next spring, PAC hears"
Above taken from the Irish Times.
The PAC should, in no uncertain terms, tell RTE that there will be no bailout unless every single document that has been requested is provided.
End of committee meeting.
Then see how quick RTE act.
RTE clearly think they can convince government to write a blank cheque here.
Govmts are highly reliant on the state broadcaster. In reality then, FFG needs RTE more than RTE needs FFG. The funny thing here is that regardless of how f****d RTE are, they have so little respect for FFG that they won't even pretend to play nice to get their 60M. Also there's word going around that RTE Execs will not be answering stupid PAC questions until FFG also starts asking questions from the FFG-appointed RTE Chair i.e. glowing Moya Doherty. LOL!
I don't know what you would even be buying if they were privatising it. I suppose the national licence component that you could transmit from anywhere in the country has a value, the rest is neither here nor there so to speak.
I understood, of course.
But it’s nonsense to suggest he left the LLS to dodge the scandal. If so, he is a birdbrain and must realise it by now.🤣
What will that mean?
Is John Brady TD related to Enda Brady the former Sky News reporter? He sounds a lot like him.
When I said that's why he left, I was obviously referring to him leaving the Late Late show
I don't think there's any evidence that Tubridy expected to keep his full salary after he left it. My own supposition is that RTE were afraid of the damage the while thing would do to their biggest earning broadcast but were prepared to take the risk on a comparatively inconsequential 1 hour radio show. Until Backhurst arrived in and looked for an excuse to get shut of him.
I could be wrong of course. Maybe Tubridy leaving had more to do with the reported clashes he had with the new head of entertainment Alan Tyler
It's worse than that it seems likely that the current RTE is unwilling to make any real change at all.
Probably dragging it out in the hopes that it will be forgot about and then they can carry on as before, which is basically what seems to be going on here. RTE management and "Talent" don't want to change, they will take the money though.
Why does it take until the end of the year to ban employees doing commercial stuff on RTE’s time and premises?
surely this could be banned overnight
very odd
Almost one for everyone in the audience.
Time for the government to get tough here. Tell these public servants to produce the goods/ testify or be fired and replaced with those who will.
My TV licence letter is sitting here unpaid. I was beginning to think maybe I should pay it as some promise of change in recent weeks. But to hell with them, we must see real evidence of change first :(
Cat fight
She has been utterly useless. Her first big political test and she walked out of the exam after 10 mins. Fail fail fail.
Of course Leo and MM are happy to let the Greens get the blame.
Catherine Martin has been awful in this whole debacle from the start. She gives the impression that she really doesn't give a sh1t about it and rather than trying to sort out the mess she is burying her head and hoping it goes away.
1100 allowances in RTE
Catherine Martin needs to act here. No point waiting for a report on governance next year. These severance packages are still happening TODAY. Get in there and find out what is happening now!!! Stop wasting our money.
That's the rub of the issue. It's not that he'd be getting a big payout for a job well done, but rather if it was in his contract and RTE don't have a legal basis to deny him the payout, they have to pay it out.
Here is a new link. The main channel has moved over to the Dail.
RTE refuse to says. The assumption is he got a huge payout of the tax payers hard earned. "It was an amicable agreement with his legal team present."
It's looking like RTE won't accept any changes needed. So it will be up to public pressure/political action to do what is needed even the closure of the current organiz
ation.
Anything on if CFO Collins got any payments for leaving
The failure to release the documents just gives more "evidence" to people that the place is rotten. What is in them that they are afraid of the public finding out?
they are terrified of releasing these documents
terrible excuses
I have to ask, what the hell is Backhurst actually prepared to do...
RTÉ DG quizzed over note at Forbes/Kelly meeting (rte.ie)
Labour TD Alan Kelly said the committee would seek to compel RTÉ to provide the document related to the May 2020 meeting, adding that if this issue ends up in the courts Mr Bakhurst's position would not be tenable.
Mr Bakhurst told the committee that he cannot provide it with the note due to legal constraints and said the organisation had to be able to take legal advice, that remained confidential.
Mr Kelly also pressed Mr Bakhurst on why RTÉ had not named its 100 highest-earning presenters in a list disclosing their salaries.
The Director General said a legal opinion advised against naming the employees amid concerns over GDPR issues.
Mr Bakhurst was asked whether RTÉ had sought Mr Collins' resignation and whether he had received a severance package.
Mr Bakhurst declined to answer those questions, insisting he could not speak about individuals.
Mr Bakhurst said there were no plans for compulsory redundancies and said, it there were, that would require political approval.
Separately, Mr Bakhurst told Independent TD Verona Murphy that RTÉ had no legal basis to recoup €150,000 paid to former Late Late Show presenter Ryan Tubridy as part of the tripartite agreement.
Mr Bakhurst, in his opening statement, said that early indications suggest a complete sale of the RTÉ campus in Donnybrook is unlikely.

The man is sitting on his hands and protecting the elites! Useless
On now.
This is Rte we’re talking about.
What time is this on this morning?
Sounds like he got a big payoff. Backhurst refused to say he got no money.
It seems that compulsory redundancies and a move from Montrose is not being considered. What is RTE going to change to change I wonder?
