It's 185+ greening on all your area+ Criss on the first 32HA. It will be about 300/ HA on the the first 32 and 250 ish after that.

What you might find out though is that on a lot of farms those last 15 cows are marginal cows and not leaving much profit at all. If the rest of the herd will be better fed with less inputs, I wonder will the bottom line suffer as much as some might make out?

But there is two sides to the ledger. What does it cost to carry the extra cows, rent the extra land, build extra facilities, etc. Call it extra cows, more cows, same cows or whatever you like but as teagasc say.... Stock your farm to match the grass that you can grow.
Cow to the acre overall is about right I think and max 3 cows on milking block. Just my 2 cents.
That's about 15k in my case then. I'd prefer it to milking 20+ extra cows. I'm staying within the ridiculous rules for the time being. I bought cheap entitlements this year and their value is increasing.
Then there is the fact that there are no more entitlements after 2027 possibly......

I know. That's all I wanted to do and they wouldn't allow it so I had to buy an outblock and now I can stock the milking block as high as I like. Makes sense to them anyway I guess.

Happening too back home in Kildare over the last few years. I suspect inspections going forward will be focused on "problem" areas and it won't matter whether you are collecting BPS or not.
Reports being compiled on platform SR. If they had a way of policing it would be implemented. Mightnt happen for '25 but either build in a review or 4 yrs, platform rates will be restricted.
Calculations for platform will be really difficult as the higher the SR the longer the cows spend indoors. It is feasible for cows grazed by day only to spend 3/24 hours outside for Nov Feb a d March...

If anyone thinks ditching the BPS going forward is a good long term solution - they are pretty naive.
There will be red flags in the dept once a large cohort of farmer drop out of the derogation system.
It won’t take much effort to demand a list of suppliers and litres supplied from the co-ops. Comparing those suppliers with the ones still on the BPS system and you’ll be back on their radar straight away.
With a stroke of a pen a maximum stocking rate per acre could be signed into law. On environmental grounds.
Then you’ll have the council, the EPA and Bord Bia up your hole. The usual excuses about Zero Grazing and exporting slurry won’t get you out of bother either as our milk products are being promoted as from grass fed free grazing cows.
Europe will want answers and will be demanding that something is done to show that water quality is being tackled.
As someone else pointed out it’s us Dairy Farmers are being fcuked under the bus taking all the flack for water quality issues. Totally unfair and being driven by “Green” politics.

I was never a fan of milk quota’s going. We have actually reduce by 20 percent here. Always knew it was a race to the bottom. Can’t fantom lads that have gone from beef cattle to milking 200 hundreds cows plus in a few years, or complete idiots starting milking on rented ground. Whole system rotten all the while getting grants to build this thing and the other while they want lads milking from time began to reduce or get out. Don’t start me on these poster farmers, I see first hand what they get up to. Dairy man 5 or whatever is obviously a troll don’t respond to him. Comes across as a Green Party activist, surely someone here can ban him, is that you Whelan? Grasstomilk looks likes he’s cutting respectable stuff there. You do realise that some had to purchase quota for years, weren’t gifted a large debt free farm etc. You said before you left school at 16 and you have all the signs of it.

My father left school at 15 and isn’t half as sheltered as you come across as, and yes shame on me for going to college getting pissed enjoying myself for 4 years while getting a degree. I’ll be farming long enough so I’ll enjoy these next few years ladddd
