Exactly. I would say in hindsight Britain or even England are raging they didn't do it without us now they have see the lack of other bids.
DUP out of the traps and complaining.
I think they know they will just be howling at the moon for the benefit of their faithful.
I'd assume that UEFA has made it clear to the national FAs that joint bids are preferable to single nation bids. The costs of hosting are huge and they want the event to grow, there is very little scope for single nation hosts. Italy and Turkey are bidding jointly for 2032, very odd combination but both obviously see it better to bid as co-hosts rather than on their own.
If Casement does get cut, the Irish government should try to position PUC as the alternative venue. With a soccer pitch, there would be 20m behind each goal, create temporary seated stands there with additional corporate facilities, etc. Even if it cost more than €10m, it'd be well worth it for the return on hosting such games.
As I said earlier, UEFA can cut a stadium if they don't think it'll be ready in time and they'll be the ones choosing the replacement. They won't want a third stadium in London or a second in another city so next best with sufficient capacity are the likes of St Mary's and the King Power Stadium which, while very good stadiums, aren't going to blow UEFA's mind either. Ireland could argue that the greater geographical spread is important to the tournament.
PUC is just not happening. You can't build temporary stands on a flat space. It's just a non runner especially when you look at what is also on offer.
What is also on offer are stadiums hosting Championship clubs which will be 25+ years old by 2028. London Stadium, Emirates, Old Trafford, Anfield wont be considered as they are in cities which are already hosting.
Why does a team being championship matter ?
Casement won't be that high spec by international standards.
Maybe a few complexes like SETU Arena etc (which hosts Waterford GAA and Waterford FC among others) imight be training bases for some qualified teams
The Ulster banner is the flag used by the Northern Ireland football team and flown in loyalist areas.
That is the Ulster province flag.
Hopefully Northern Ireland don't play in Casement Park if they are in Euro 2028. We all know their fans love bringing loyalist flags to games. What a sorrowful sight it would be to see in that historical field with such a long history of Gaelic games and nationalist culture. I wonder if the stand at Casement Park is the oldest stand still standing at a GAA stadium. I seen footage of it from the 1960s on the BBC archive.
That statement is just so hateful and so out of touch. It will be 2028 not 1916. ……and you will absolutely not see loyalist flags at casement with ni fans.
It will not be a drama. If ni qualify (and casement is built) then casement will become our home ground for the tournament. Whilst we would much prefer Windsor, it’s just not big enough. It will be amazing to see one of the friendliest and most colourful fanbases in the world descend on a brand new stadium, easy distance from the city centre pubs.
I would love to see the young people of andytown etc get swept away by the eurphoria and get behind the local team.
the only downside is the size of the playing area, but I have little doubt we will overcome that and still create an amazing atmosphere
An almost full house on the bingo card of belligerent Unionists calling for no money for Casement,

It looks like when leo was saying in the dail yesterday about part funding casement he forgot to run it by pascal!
The Tricolour is the flag used by the Ireland football team and flown in Republican areas.
Does that mean it should not be used, using your logic?
Add Ben Lowry from the Newsletter to my list above.
Good lord, is there a bigger self pitying whinge than Lowry on the island. Listen back to him on Claire Bryne Show
So all would be happy with Ireland hosting games at Euro28 but NI not?
Generally those people listed will never be happy. Perennial outrage is their standard operating mode.
This situation is perfect because they get to cry about building Casement and once it's blocked get to cry about Belfast being sold down the river.
The Ulster Council & Croke park seam to be keeping very quiet. Interesting last night on Game On it seamed that the irish soccer people are not that interested in the tourment in ireland at all.
Yeah, it's a lot like Brexit, the DUP are largely responsible for how it has panned out (rejecting everything during Teresa May's indicative votes) but now claim everyone is shafting them and making themselves out to be innocent victims. It'll be the same again, the consequences of their actions are pretty obvious but still blame everyone else if NI isn't part of the tournament.
Oh Mr McNulty should not be believing everything Leo says.
I think it is a fait accompli that the money will come tbh.
There is already a load of money ring fenced by the Daily for major cross border infrastructure projects so Leo could be telling the truth and we could put money in quite easily.
You reckon UEFA won't be impressed by Southampton or Leicester, but would prefer PUíC with temporary stands?
Is that not for projects like the A5 and Ulster Canal?
I have no problem with this state funding casement or any other of the 6 countys sports grounds. But it opens a can of worms for the government. Look at the new plans lodged for dalymount they are looking for central funding as well.
Leo also said this last year
Funding for RoI projects is completely seperate to Daily funding for NI projects but on the first point you are right. Some other cross border project will have to suffer but that doesn't mean Leo isn't telling the truth it just means he is omitting the part where it will shaft another project.
Canal project is three quarters complete. Hardly that.
My point is that the big modern stadiums which might be considered too good to turn down are not going to be an option. UEFA could put geographical spread as a more important criteria if there's not a lot between the stadiums. They might want to base a group on the island to reduce travel requirements for teams and fans.
Perhaps the British government will chip in for soccer and rugby projects in recognition of their West Brit culture.
Varadkar wants this to proceed. Other projects like the A5 are not proceeding with any urgency although the money was offered and talk of railways etc is only crayons.
UEFA have made it clear last time around that they don't care about teams and geographical concerns.
Also
"If work does not start in Casement by 2025, Uefa will not send five matches to Belfast. The alternatives are Croke Park, Old Trafford, London’s Olympic Stadium and Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, as they were initially long listed as venues. Sunderland would probably be named ahead of the others as Dublin, Manchester and London are already confirmed as host cities"
There is nothing official to suggest that only stadiums which were long listed previously will be considered for replacing Casement. They can pick any stadium available.
Well there's a lot more to it than thinking the absolutely never mentioned or put forward in anything other than fantasy talk Cork being in the mix.
