Just can’t get a decent bag of chips lately, what’s happened?.Do chippers not cut their own spuds any more, buy the chips in cut mass production?. Throw out more than I eat now
I live in Kildare
These are the average prices in my area what I would order
I remember not so long ago you got a Quarter Pounder for the price of todays cheese burger.
12" Hawaiian Pizza - 13.20 lol
Takeaways seem to have gone up 50% plus in the last 3/4 years . Maybe its all down to Utilities, Insurance etc but its making it more of a treat than a regular event in our house.
If your feeding a family of 4 or 5 its a lot cheaper to buy & cook the fish and chips yourself in the oven or air fryer.
€4.30 for chips!? Jesus Christ.
Sure a normal sausage was 1 euro last year. now 1.70
Yea I think you’re right now I think of it. I don’t get why they don’t do it the proper way, it results in a far better product.
It’s €4:50 in my local in Dublin!
€13.50 for fish and chips in my local.
€4.20 for chips.
Easy for a meal for a family of 2+2 to hit nearly 40. It’s pricy.
traditions an awful yoke 🥲 they should stick to pasta…
Cowboys.
Jesus lads, I remember 30 years ago when chips were 50p for a small and 60p for a large portion and a cheese burger would set you back 95p.
I havent had a nice chipper in a good while so dont really go near them now :(
Still just €5.50 for 'cod portion' and full bag of chips in Mulhuddart D15 main street. The portion is not a full fish obviously, but big enough that never leaves me feeling cheated. The chips on their own would be a hefty €3.80 so it does almost seem like a pricing glitch, but long may it continue.
Never buy chips on a Sunday- the oil was likely new on Thursday evening to cater for the weekend rise in orders- by Sunday its past it - cue soggy chips - likely they’ll change the oil Monday morning
Don’t understand why every chipper can’t taste as good as Saltees in Kilmore Quay -it’s not rocket science but it does take a bit of care and attention
Italian chippers can’t do good fried fish, - batter is either rock hard or soggy- how difficult is it to achieve “crispy and light” their beef burgers have reduced in size in the last year- 1/4 pounder the other day looked like a standard beef burger - fried chicken can be good to poor so I don’t bother buying that anymore either
Over priced muck these days
That can’t be cod at that price.
Still very good value though
Also the markup on just eat compared to a chippers site is shocking.
While just eat is convenient, the cost chippers must be paying to utilise the site must be massive.
While the Little Saltee chipper is without doubt one of the best, the price for that quality brings it wayyy above a regular weekend treat.
Eh Hello?
You're over on another thread defending someone charging 3 euro for a pint of MiWadi (on top of 38 euro for two roast beef dinners and 3.60 for a Lucozade) explaining that "we pay for the MiWadi and the tap water".
Is Vinnie's in Galway's East End still going? They did nice chips when I was temporarily living there in 2018.
My chippers prices have gone nuts. Two fish meals and a couple of garlic/curry sauce is just over 40Euro, If you have a few kids it's costing about 100 quid.
15.50 for a donor/chicken kebab meal
16.50 Fresh/Smoked Cod Meal.
Bun Burger 4.50 , Cheese Burger - 5.00, Quarter pounder 7.00
9.00 Taco Chips
The two chinese places are the same.
You used to get a chicken curry, fried rice and chips for just over a tenner. 19.20 the other night.
Dishes used to be in and around the 7 euro mark. Curry being the cheapest. Minimum is about 12-13 quid now for a meal with fried rice. Add some chips and noodles and its near 25 quid.
Am a fan of the fish and chips from Beshoffs and they have range of fish and meal options. Have tried from a few of their Dublin locations abd Clontarf more reliably nicer - maybe cos less rushed.
McDonald's app offers is decent for an odd takeaway
I like the burgers if they were hot
And? You’re not often occupying an entire table at a takeaway so it’s apples to oranges.
😂 burgers and sausage in batter are about as Irish as goulash.
Grub like that shouldn’t be on any menu, there’s a reason Italians wouldn’t eat it.
Who's that for
I wish we had a Beshoff's down here. Cork is very poor for fish and chips.
You are right there.
The air fryer is a game changer.
My local chipper
Homemade chips small €3 large €3.30 Taco chips €6.50
1/4 pounder €4.80 Cheese burger €3.30
Cod & Chips €8.50 Fillet of Cod €6.00
Doner Kebab €7.50
1/4 pounder meal €8.50
Homemade battered onion rings €3.50 homemade battered mushrooms €3,50
All the above is excellent food, and I'm not saying where it is!
Ah dunno that's all I use but I'd kill for the deep fat fryer
Naturalised Irish 🙂
The only reason it's on the menu is because people eat it. Lads palates are a bit less discerning after a feed of pints.
Yes the Italians wouldn't eat it, it's not exactly the Mediterranean diet.
I just can't make good homemade chips made in the air fryer, tried every way out there but can't get the same result as the deep fat fryer. The only thing I use it for in over 2 years is chips.
I miss a deep fat fryer but the smell was minging and I wasn't a fan of cleaning it.
