Hi my dad died last week i was his carer and i just wanted to know how long i will get the carers allowance for from the time of his death and how long does his pension continue for please ? thank u
Sorry for your loss. The information you need is on Citizens Information...
Payment of Carer's Allowance (full or half-rate) continues to be made for 12 weeks after the death of the person you were caring for. Payment of Carer's Benefit continues to be made for 6 weeks after the death of the person you were caring for.
State pension is 6 weeks.
...
Not sure if this the right forum to ask but is there a Grant you can get towards funeral expenses , and do Credit Unions have a Death Benefit Grant
I am very sorry for your loss.
AFAIK, you will continue to get your Carer's payment but your father's pension will be stopped immediately, as pensions are only paid to a spouse for a few weeks, after the other passes.
My mother's pension was stopped the day after she died, as my father had already passed away.
Details on help towards funeral costs are here: Support Towards Funeral Costs.
If your father was a full member of his credit union, they will usually pay a contribution towards funeral costs as well. You will need to contact his credit union to find the details, and if he had nominated someone for this.
No she has passed away so i was his full time carer
Pension continues as well for the carer
Oh i was under the impression it was paid for 6 weeks after
Most credit unions do. You will have to contact them.
You will need to contact the Dept of Social Protection to check on what will happen to his pension.
After my mother died I informed the Dept the next day. I too was under the impression that her pension would continue to be paid for six weeks, but they told me there and then on the phone that pensions only continue to be paid to a surviving spouse (no other family member) and her pension was stopped immediately. This was in 2020, unless it has changed since then.
I've added a link to the info on help towards funeral costs, and credit unions, to my earlier post.
Once again, my condolences.

This is Absolutely correct if the other spouse is dead, the pension stops with them
Thank you for taking the time to come back to this, you didn't have too, and I'm sure you have a lot more on your mind right now.
Take care.
