Daughter had a play date to today and i was sent out this morning to get chicken nuggets for lunch.
Got the ones below and was amazed, good quality white chicken inside and not the usual bready texture muck I've gotten in the past with other brands.
Picked up this canned curry, for novelty if nothing else!
Anyone tried it?
Had the wagyu burgers this evening. I cooked them in the George, quite a lot of fat in the tray afterwards but they held their size and shape very well. Ate both burgers that were in the packet with the Aldi brioche buns. Hadn’t eaten much today as I was busy but I still struggled to eat them. One would’ve done if I had of had lunch. Just had Mayo and T ketchup on them. Will definitely buy again.
Where on the shelf is that and how much?
I can see someone pissed taking a slug of it 🍺🌶️🔥
The atlantic wheaten bread is very nice - very dark, moist brown
Yep. I find it goes off very fast though. I suggest freezing half of it if you're not planning on finishing it in a couple of days.
I find all Aldi bread goes off very quick. It usually only has a 4 day b/b date if your lucky to get it fresh.
True. I freeze half of every loaf until I'm ready for it.
I suppose it's a good thing really.
Capers are back in stock 1.69 for 198g - much cheaper that the other stores.
People saying the Wagyu burgers are very fatty - what else do you expect from Wagyu?
A high fat content, so? Some people might not know that.
I can't remember tbh, hopefully some else can help? I think it cost somewhere around €2 to €3?
They have those in Lidl also, and I actually find them nicer than Aldi ones - the cashew, dark chocolate and cherry are divine:
Some eople are very mixed up when it comes to meat quality. Many think that lean means higher quality and fatty means low quality, not realising that the most expensive and sought after meats (beef, anyway) have a very high fat content (wagu, being an excellent example).
yeah, I've had properly farmed Irish Dexter that's been as good as any Wagyu I've eaten.
I didn't really care for the Wagu beef I had. I found it too rich. Tasty but crazy rich. Similarly, I don't like foie gras.
These were the steaks. I shudder to think what they cost in Singapore!
These are great, I always have a stash for emergency top-up nibbles. And I agree, nicer than the Aldi ones (which are absolutely fine!)
What would people recommend in terms of a soda bread or similar? I'm looking for a decent replacement for Supervalu's Sean's Brown.
I tried the Farmhouse Soda this week, but not impressed. It seemed to have raw oat flakes in it, and had a funny taste.
If Aldi would improve their bakery products generally, it would save me a fortune.
The Atlantic Wheaten as was mentioned earlier.
Have you tried the Buttermilk Soda from SuperValu? I find it lovely and it's very good value.
The O/H likes the basic soda bread in Aldi https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/p-sliced-buttermilk-soda-bread-600g-ballymore-crust/4088600004808 nothing great but I always have one in the freezer. I had a lot worse.
Thanks. I'll try the Atlantic Wheaten.
Yes, the SV Buttermilk Soda is nice (not as nice as Sean's brown), but it's not really the price of the Sean's Brown so much as it's just no longer convenient for me to get to Supervalu as often, whereas I pass Aldi daily.
Has anyone tried the Darragh's Brown Bread? I think that's what it's called anyway - saw it there the other day, but don't see it on the website.
Darragh's has a nice homemade style taste. It's a replace for Grainne's I think.
Again, it doesn't keep fresh for long so you should freeze half if you're not planning on finishing it within two days.
agree - the atlantic wheaten is teh best of the aldi browns imo. Tbf brown breads (and bread generally) is one of the areas when supervalu is hard to beat though!
Quadruple Chocolate All Butter Cookies 200g
On the subject of bakery, I find it sad that their apple pies, which are made in Limerick using apples from Armagh have to be marked with a "none EU apples" statement because of Brexit.
Sad but true! 😋
Yet Bushmills etc are still Irish whiskey.
If you're ever near Aldi Newland Cross, they have an in-store bakery? (one of the rare Aldi's that does).
Though to be honest, I go to Lidl especially for the brown soda bread from their bakery. It's the nicest I've ever tasted, anywhere.
I have to be strict with myself though, because its so nice I'd pig out on half a loaf of it with real butter instead of making a dinner. 😳
I know this is the Aldi 🧵 but on the subject of brown bread, Centra do a round, baked in store*, brown bread that I find is one of the nicest I've eaten including many actual homemade ones.
Since our son was diagnosed allergic to milk I started making my own (I live on soda bread)
It's lovely and nicer than any I've bought to be honest.
Couldn't be easier either
150g plain flour
200g wholemeal flour
50g oats
1 tsp salt and 1 tsp bread soda
300ml oat milk
1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar
Fire in all dry then wet ingredients and onto a baking tray for 30 mins at 200c fan
I batch bake four at a time and it takes fifteen mins prep including clean up while in the oven.
Apologies for OT but all ingredients come from Aldi!
For those who swear it can't taste as good without milk substitute oat milk and vinegar for buttermilk
