No country can protect 100% of their skies from small / low-altitude threats.
Ground-based radar systems are great at spotting things at high-altitude like bombers or ballistic missiles. When things are at low-altitude it's much harder. A radar system can see low-altitude threats only when they are close to it; as they get further away they get masked among clutter like buildings, terrain, eventually they disappear under the horizon. To have 100% coverage against these threats you would need thousands of short-range systems spaced like cell-phone towers... no country has this many.
So for low-altitude threats you put your short-range AA systems where you think you need them. Near military bases, airports, critical infrastructure, etc.
If the route is chosen carefully, a small drone like a Shahed can therefore fly long distances across a country with low chance of interception. When it approaches it's target - if there are sufficient AA systems in the area - is when it is most likely to be shot down. Russia does it to Ukraine and Ukraine can just as easily do it in Russia, if they can produce these in sufficient number.
Be that as it may the fact remains they have those weapons.
Ukraine winning is basically cornering Putin because he's finished if Ukraine win the war.
Cornered animal etc...
I think this fear was valid in the early days of the war. I suspect hearing from the Americans what the consequences would be has greatly reduced any likelihood that Russia would go that far. At the same time, having nuclear weapons is the only insurance policy Russia really has against the west. So it's a delicate balance
The issue Kermit is that Medvedev & the Russian administration has thrown out the tactical nuclear threat several times now. It's like the boy who cries wolf, there is always a small possibility that there is an actual wolf but the message loses it's effect. Even if the message is targeted towards a home audience, they've heard it all before too. And therefore credibility is further eroded on all fronts.
Wasn't necessarily referring to you specifically, more a general group that was previously very vocal about such predictions, less so in recent weeks it has to be said
No I didn't.
Any other lies you need me to help you with?
putin must have the most up-to -date Oxford Dictionary because , no matter what happens, he can explain it away to his advantage.
One of the most recent examples of this is the Wagner position . He said that it’s leader is a traitor and we know what Putin does with traitors. So how do we explain that Putin has DONE NOTHING about it - and all the tea in China and that- and has said ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about it either since he called Prizoghin ‘a traitor’.
The answer , IMO , lies in what’s happening in Niger or the Nigers’ of this world. It starts off like this :-
Russia prefers a dictatorship - with a strongman , like himself, to a democracy and he is willing to ‘help out’ any army guy /revolutionary group that’s willing to overthrow a democracy. And where that is the case there is a payback required and this is where Wagner comes in . The payback is in the form of some asset/s , such as gold mining output making it’s way to Russian coffers - Which Wagner has ample experience in. So why would Putin get rid of Prizoghin when he can be so lucratively useful to Putin re the above ventures.
And apart from the above advantage there is another one. The above , when it happens, leads to refugees , asylum seekers and individuals emigrating to seek a better, safer and more secure life and we know to which countries they go to Thus PUTTING ALL TYPES OF PRESSURE on such countries which is to PUTIN’S advantage
The nuke threats usually increase just before Russia loses more Ukrainian territory. It augurs well.
I guess the Russian offensive didn't work out, and Ukraine is advancing, since we are back to the nuclear threats until someone finds an old video of destroyed Ukrainian tanks.
Edit: similar from Darth, actually
If there's one thing that's been established, it's that Putin is not a 4D chess wizard. He's not a puppet master.
Despite this, people continue to perpetuate the idea that he is these things by speculating whether he's behind any significant event. I wouldn't say he should be flattered in this way any longer. Stuff exploding in Moscow and general internal chaos is a net positive. That's the bottom line.
I see the dick waving we will nuke everyone if you don’t do what we want threats are back😂
Sure just take my house, family and car keys while you’re at it seems you have a BOMB!!
Cowards..
I know that we all know that but in the Russians eyes do they know that. I mean out of all places they would use it would be there or in Russia. I mean if Ukraine end up getting their troops into there and Russia are getting expelled from it I do wonder would they use it there out of all places.
Putin, Lavrov and Medvedev have been warned by China, no less, to cut down on the Nuclear rhetoric. They are not in favor of this Nuclear Sabre rattling. While Biden has warned that actually using a nuclear device would trigger such a response that Russian military capabilities would be destroyed, all of them, Land, Sea and Air. And this would be done using conventional weapons.
No, crimea is already taking a battering without a peep about it.
Thanks. That’s pretty embarrassing for russia that they don’t intercept them long before Moscow.
We'll it's unlikely to be the Ukrainian offensive he was referring to, since according to him it's already failed.
Except Crimea isn't Russia
But would they use it say in crimea, pull back people and troops and use it then. They could basically say ohh crimea is Russia we used the nuke on Russian territory and not on Ukrainian territory on invading Ukrainian troops. I could see them doing it then and there.
If they want to lose every piece of ordinance outside their borders, including their entire Black Sea fleet.
NATO will not stand back on the deployment of a nuclear weapon.
Sigh...THE BOMB.....again
russia won't use nukes in ukraine, the most they'll do is manufacture an accident in Zaporizhzhia, they've clarified multiple times they are defensive weapons only and will only get used if the west used nukes on them which won't happen either.
Pop that Cork all day, Russia is full of sh1t, it won't use a nuke, you have drones bombing Moscow and RU does nothing. Typical bully, all hot air.
They'll huff and puff more and more as UKr take more of their country back. Its slow, but I'm sure the UKr resolve is far stronger than the avg Russians to die at war, for what ?
Once the tactical nuke genie is out of the bottle **** will really hit the fan.
You don't want to be the one to pop that cork.
Ukraine.
They have home-produced drones with a range of 1000km
He's a nutter but he does raise something obvious that no one faces up to. What would happen if Ukraine started winning the war on the ground?
Would Russia use a tactical nuclear weapon on the battlefield over advancing Ukranian troops? If they are losing the war, are sanctioned to the hilt and Crimea is at risk I think it would be indescribably dangerous.
Could we wake up one morning soon to news that a nuke has been used? The panic would be like nothing ever seen before.
The longer this insane war goes on the more dangerous it gets and the more likely an "accident" will occur that spreads the conflict. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say this is the most dangerous conflict for global security since WW2 and in terms of the nuclear threat since the Cuban missile crisis.
Sorry ,not sure what you are saying.Do you want to explain a bit more?
The drones that hit Moscow- where are they being “launched” from?
Drones at it again in Russia
😁
I think you're onto somethng!!
There were several apartment block bombings in and around Moscow, in which 300 people were killed and many more injured. They were carried out on by the GRU /FSB on the orders of Boris Yeltsin, who then produced Putin as being the man who could protect Russians against the Chechen Terrorists ( who were wrongly blamed) and he was duly elected on this premise. But now, if these bombing's continue and actually increase, instead of increasing support for Putin, he may be seen as the man who has failed to protect Russians....and needs to be replaced? Now that would be ironic!!!
