What department do you only have to go in a few days per month for?
Likewise, local/line management manage the weekly day in the office and if you off for that day, you don't have to do another day to cover it. More work gets done WFH (take out a few hours of a commute, breaks etc). And all my department in favour of it and a very good workplace environment because of it.

I will be starting soon as a CO in NSSO Clonskeagh, does anyone know if I will be eligible for WFH while on probation? And if so, do you know what current WFH options are available in NSSO?

I can't tell you about the probation part as I don't work there but know form comments on here that 4 days WFH is an option and also they have started to allow staff to accrue flexi time while working from home.
Back when I did it briefly during COVID (local IT and management stopped it after COVID and we haven't been allowed ANY WFH since), I had to produce an Excel report on my one day WFH showing what I did during the day, broken down by hour.
Sometimes you have to do that as contractor for billing etc. Its not a bad habit to have. Perhaps not hourly but daily work dairy.
But a bit ridiculous otherwise. Some micro managers did this so much it, started to add to a fair bit of time.
How feckin' ridiculous is that.
Some of these so-called managers need a good boot up the hole.
Hi All. I hope it is ok to post on this thread..but I am just doing so as I would appreciate some advice from people who already work within the civil service. I commenced my role with Revenue in Jan 2023. Since then I passed my 3 month probation report..but I have just failed my 6 month one. I understand the 9 month report is the crucial one but I am just wondering if issues will arise from failing the 6 monthly? Are there any knock on effects from this? ...Also is there any option to appeal? ...We currently have an acting AP & this person is proving very difficult for our whole team to work with. The AP appears to be on a power trip to the point of almost bullying levels. They move deadlines & then tell you you missed them. They have signed off my report following a phone call but had said we could meet to discuss it before submitting it. I like the job but they are making life very miserable at the moment. Im thinking of looking for another job as I dont want to stay another 3 months if they will just end up failing my 9 month probation as well.

Does anyone have an idea of the blended working arrangements in the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner? I'm in the top 10 for CO mobility for a number of departments but this would be the closest to me. I'm not too worried about Flexi arrangements but would ideally like some WFH if possible.
Don't want to take my place off hold if it would be 5 days in the office.

Nobody from the DPC took place in the most recent survey here (was July, IIRC), but in the October 2022 survey, one person from the DPC participated and said their blended working policy was being introduced from October 2022, and it allowed for up to 3 days WFH.
Would be no harm to give their HR a call to double-check, though.

It’s looks like 3 days in but at least they have flexi from home. I’m in Ag and we can’t work up flexi at home and have 3 set days in the office. It’s a pain in the butt!

They run it as a competition in my section (I'm not sure if this is department wide or just specific to my area). You basically have to fill in a form saying why you're so great and then they're reviewed by a panel and a decision made.
I should get both parachutes, because I'm great. 🤣
Er... wow. I thought it was straight seniority everywhere[*], that's what it is where I am anyway. There's a seniority list and when enough people ahead of you retire (or die!) you get Buggin's turn. Although it is possible that if you blotted your copybook in a major way you'd be excluded.
I got an unexpected email last year that I'd made the grade and even better, due to delays in admin with covid etc. it was backdated!!!1! I got a totally underwhelming sum as a result. But I get a totally underwhelming sum every fortnight 🙄
[*] It's the very very last vestige of advancement through seniority, as a former P**U branch committee member, I well remember the endless discussions about what to do about the tiny number of promotions then still allowed through the traditional 'consistory' (which is a very odd word normally used to describe a gathering of cardinals) when that was abolished.
^^ Same in my Dept. It's done on seniority. No competitions.
Ours did competitive self praise for a few years, but they've gone back to seniority now.
It’s 50:50 in my dept between seniority and competition, good middle ground
