I'm not really clear about the whole subtext about RTE subcontracting key personnel that should be employees, sounds dubious as well. I mean if they're trying to save money by avoiding tax prsi etc, who are they saving it for?
If they're trying to save money by screwing junior staff on pay and conditions, who are they benefitting?
All of the other penny pinching and the poor mouth they've consistently put on can only be of benefit to one group of people. And now they have one of thier favoured sons(Bakhurst) in to steer the ship.

today's objective was only ever damage limitation. they've managed to stem the flow, but also sow a few seeds of doubt in the public's mind. boredom will soon set in, and the public will quickly move onto more engaging pastures.

NK acting like he's an employee of RTE and not an owner of several companies. I was doing what RTE instructed.
Tubs said they got 30 mins notice that RTE were releasing a statement, but NK said earlier he was informed about the issue being raised in April I believe? He didn't discuss that with Tubs at all (must have slipped his mind) and then Tubs just decided to retire from the LLS in May.
This is like a comedy.

Yep I’ll +1 that - while I don’t like Tubridy as a presenter, it’s doesn’t mean I don’t have a sense of fair play- the issue of his pay, in my view, is inconsiderable, compared to the massive mess RTÉ is in right now and it’s getting way too much air time. I understand it from an optics perspective but throwing Tubs under a bus just because he got a rake load of cash from RTÉ over many years, is not the answer to RTEs problems right now.
In fact, if they want to make money in the future, like it or not, Tubridy will likely be one of the few that has the capability to bring in the advertising.

its true, and blaming a faceless organisation is easy here. If it was the private sector, that organisation would have no hesitation in delivering a two fingered salute. But this of course is moo moo land.
It strikes me from this thread on comments like this and all the comments on accents how many Dubliners there must be who literally never hear accents from around the country outside of events like this and either struggle to understand them or perceive them as unintelligent.
