Generally don't have a lot of faith in the telegraph and less so in tweets from most publications since its almost certainly clickbait. The Telegraph have a daily podcast on the war, about an hour long but generally decent quality. Don't find myself listening to a whole one of every day but you get a good headline/interview mix. Was genuinely surprised.
Looks like Bidens choice is Ursula von der Leyen , interesting choice but plenty of experience on the worlds political stage
Something is burning somewhere in occupied territory.
OMG
She was in Russia before the and made a show of herself I think putin would approve her appointment
I'd like to see Estonia's Kaja Kallas get that job. However I would imagine that she is seen as too "pro escalation" for a lot of NATO members.
Yeah, That’s what I’ve read re Kallas recently as well.
I don’t rate von der Leyen at all, I think what that role needs is someone who sets the Fuehrer’s teeth on edge just thinking about them. Von der Leyen has such an annoyingly smiley head on her all the time.
Someone like Kallas or Iohannis is who I’d go for.
I'm not even surprised
Putin doesn't like journalists
I’ll save you the trouble. It isn’t true. Since Biden took office the US has pushed for a successor outside the five eyes (US, UK, & Canada) to further shore up the alliance especially in the EU. This was well known before Russia’s full scale invasion. As much to counter Macron’s EU Army ambitions as anything else. Eastern European countries have always been skeptical of France as defence lynchpin but the US realises the optics of having an Anglosphere director are not the most ideal.
Another example of mans inhumanity to man.
What we at now? 200K+ Russians dead. Somewhere around another 80- 100K Ukraine dead..??
Sweet suffering Jesus, we are all human beings, we are all Fathers, Mothers, Sons & Daughters...
The Putins, Bidens & all the European leaders have no Sons or Daughters on the front line, or dug into any of the trenches currently being bombed..
This is our planet, we live here, we can't exist anywhere else...
What do you suggest?
In before "Ukraine compromises and lets Russia take some of its gains".
I'd be highly reluctant to go to a hospital/any location within moscow/Russia if I were her....did she have a choice...would it be considered defecting etc if she stayed in a western country if a hospital place etc was offered..
It seems like walking back into certain danger tbh....
Ukraine will not compromise unless totally defeated and that’s not going to happen. Russia has to take a loss.
She can only take a loss if she gets Putin off her back.
Putin cannot back down without his authority being broken and his personal safety/freedom being at risk.
(It almost feels like the Prigoblin episode was a warning to the West to "hold on to nurse for fear of worse"-although surely that was not why it happened)
I think we have to follow Ukraine's lead pretty closely.History is writing this down as we speak.
Why is the west arming these guys ? I thought the west hates the far right? bbc link btw
Wasn't that video... like a decade and a government or two ago?
Putting putin in with all western elected leaders is a stupid and insulting in its self
putin is not democratically elected he is waging the most brutal war ever in the history of mankind and luckly he is losing
Doesn't matter, I can give you more recent one's if you like, I know it's just a fraction but stuff like this still needs to be called out.
Yes it does matter; the video is 9 years old, so do share more recent relevancy cos a lot of water has passed under the bridge; because the historically oft mentioned Azov battalion ended at Mariupol (the force beloved of contrarians at the start of this) and the Kyiv government has been pretty pro-active in routing our corruption and trying to fast-track itself to EU accession standard. The whole "Ukraine is full of Nazis" is a canard well addressed and debunked by now
Biden's son served in Iraq. Having sons on the front line made no difference in WW1 did it? It's just a cheap shot without merit or foundation.
You know why there's no Western troops in Ukraine, and that's not because of a lack of will to fight Russia conventionally.
This war was forced on Ukraine by Russia.
Your post attempts to create an utterly false moral equivalence between the actions of the West in helping Ukraine against an illegal invasion & Russia which illegally invaded and commits war crimes daily in its conduct of that war.
You deny all agency to Ukraine, to their Sons and Daughters on the front line. Why is that?
Why do you think the West is arming Ukraine? What's your alternative plan?
This is calling you out, let's see how you compose yourself in front of others.
The post below yours fairly dismantles your feeble arguments.
Men raging against "modern feminists" for wanting equality and to lives free of male violence, which is the absolute cancer of the world (which is not to say women are angels, of course not, but there is no comparison in terms of havoc and misery caused). There really is nothing more pathetic.
Trading in the Ruble seems all over the place this morning jumping between 92 and 94 to the $. Big drop in its value over the last few weeks.
.
Ukraine will compromise if the US and other suppliers of military equipment tell it to (e.g. give up Crimea and a few devastated areas in the east in exchange for NATO membership or other security guarantees). Hopefully won't come to that, but time will tell
"The most brutal war ever in the history of mankind"
Not even close,
Was she the German Defence minister a few years ago? I don't think her record in Defence would augur well for a NATO job.
She was, she's also very well regarded in Nato circles,
Not even in the top 10.
"Compromise" with this iteration of Russia is akin to "compromise" with Nazi Germany with regards to the Sudetenland . Back then it was all "fair enough, appease the militaristic dicatorship's desire to land-grab the Czech's only line of defense against invasion. Sure....they'll *behave themselves* after this".
We saw how history played out and we should now know better. Russia's demands are not rational, nor are they honest. Their goals are built on agression and possibly also despriation. For the sake of more than just the people of Ukraine, the Russians cannot be allowed to win territory for what they have done.
