So much for the unstoppable missile boast by Putin. There was some debate about whether the Kinzhal is a true hypersonic missile or not, but either way it shows once again the west's conventional weaponry is superior to anything Russia has.
Afaik the Patriot was designed during the Cold War.
any truth to the rumour/reports on the radio that the nuclear plants roof is rigged with explosives?or is it just the crime czar in the kremlin spouting crap again?
Both sides accuse the other
Of course I'm far more willing to believe the Ukrainians given everything we know.
somehow i cant see the Ukrainians making a good bit of their country unusable for several generations..
Sweet suffering Jesus, go outside and talk to some people.
It's not the same beast though, the modern ones are much more capable.
Starting to hit dusk now in the theater. It's there right above Donetsk and Mariupol in eastern Ukraine.
I doubt highly they could artillery strike it themselves from the direction of Belarus (false flag) so if they are going to do it (which is crazy, prevailing eastward winds, etc. etc.) it would naturally make sense to do at night so there is less if any visual confirmation of a lack of weapon strikes etc.
Either way this is a time bomb, with Ukraine's offensive having to treat the whole region around it with kid gloves, making it easy for Russia to hold for now.
If there is a nuclear incident what does the international community do.
if they blow it, it’s a nuclear attack on Germany/Poland….. nato will have to end the russian military
Which would probably trigger Total War. NATO is good, but not disable the Russian military in one fell swoop good.
This nuclear business may be just a ploy to distract from Prigozhin's coup and reinstate Putin as a 'strong man'.
Has he thought about challenging Mark Zuckerberg to an MMA fight
Good point, any idea what generation Ukraine have?
This is the location of the ZNPP
Russia has been told numerous times, both in public and back channels that if there is an incident at that site then there will be swift consequences. For a country whos military is at barebones it would be absolutely stupid to attempt anything. That being said, the Russians have proven themselves to be destructive through pure incompetence as well as malice but either way, the plant is under their control so they should be doing everything they can to ensure it's in good condition, which it seems, they aren't.
In this case a dereliction of duty is just as bad as a malicious act.
And China also reportedly told them off about playing around with nuclear f&ckery
EU: dont fcuk with the Nuclear stuff
UK: dont fcuk with the Nuclear stuff
USA: dont fcuk with the Nuclear stuff
China: dont fcuk with the Nuclear stuff
Rest of World: dont fcuk with the Nuclear stuff
Russia: should we fcuk with the Nuclear stuff?
Russians accusing Ukraine of putting explosives on their roof?
their twist on the conspiracy theory is Ukraine will shell/dronestrike it under cover of night
I think it's funnier to imagine russians checking their roofs constantly as part of their charade.
The grimmer thought is knowing just how much of Ukraine is booby-trapped, minelayed, entrenched, or razed even without a nuclear plant in the mix.
Ever since the failed attempt to capture kyiv Russia has used NPP as a nuke threat similar to its arsenal of nuclear weapon, problem is the west have ignored the dam so Russia will blow the plant they will deny like the dam and if radiation blows west it won't be enough to trigger article 5, its mindset is if we can't have it no one will
And if they get away with it China won't mind the fallout from western weakness they see Russia' war as a challenge to their absolute power.
As I said before counter offensive won't matter the area the are trying to take back will be a waste land.
The taking of the plant was a war crime and we blinked after 18 months of being held hostage its no chance of being released while putin lives so kill putin
The plant has been refurbed and reinforced for a Fukushima type incident and other threats a few times over the years it is extremely tough compared to Chernobyl. An outside attack (missile, artillery) would likely cause no damage to the reactor but obviously an internally placed bomb would. It's all shite talk and fear mongering from Russia as usual.
No but sinking every Russia navy ship in a few days would be doable.
I think he'll be willing to take the risk, call the West's bluff again.
I have to record my after-attendance video from a conference I was at two weeks ago, but there was a briefing by a Ukrainian colonel.
One of the slides said "T-62 and T-55 are being used as assault guns. They are effective".
Which I think is perfectly reasonable. That Russia needs to dig into their reserves of such vehicles is an indicator that things are not going well for them, but that doesn't mean that they are bad things to have along for the fighting as it currently stands: Limited movement required, stupidly reliable and easy to fix, and a 100mm or 115mm high explosive round will ruin your day about as well as a 125mm HE round. An NLAW or Javelin has about the same chance of killing both old and new as well, so why not use them?
As cynical as it is to say, as much as Trump and DeSantis has talked of removing American support for the war, the industrial military complex might object to having contracts and work taken away from them. They're a powerful lobby group, they would have words with the GOP about pulling America from the fight.
Terrible isn't it? All the more reason to support them to in time sweep the Russian invaders out, and help to cripple Russia financially. To promote regime change and the possibility of a new dawn for ordinary Russian plebs. I'm sure you agree.
Interesting, if true.
Whether true or not, it’s hardly news at this stage.
Stoltenberg is staying on. The poor man won’t be allowed to leave that post until there is some kind of resolution to the war, I reckon. (In interviews, he has seemed rather eager to finally leave and return to a less pressurised life - and who could blame him.) This is about the fourth extension of his term. I don’t like to see how controversial it seems to be inside NATO to find his successor.
Would you be quick to believe that newspaper (Telegraph) though?
If there is anything in it (e.g. the core piece of information, that the US don't want Ben Wallace), it is more likely IMO the Biden admin. just dislike and mistrust the current UK leadership & incarnation of the Tory party.
The Conservatives have been fairly contemptuous of Biden/the Democrats and afair were openly hoping Trump would beat him in the election & help them out of their Brexit hole with trade "deals" etc. in a second term.
So given the history, would not be surprising if the US won't be doing them any favours (like backing their man for such a job).
