Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

Ryan Tubridy does the annual V de P Christmas appeal adverts. I wonder are his services in this respect completely free and voluntary? According to latest published accounts €1,290,000 was spent on fundraising in 2021.
When you look at it here, the Toyman moniker he gave himself has a rather sinister history.
Wow. I never thought about just how many nixers he has.
RTE should have called his bluff. Everyone knows he won't get a job elsewhere.
Looks like RT is digging his heels in.
NKM has so much power in RTE, they couldn't do anything until now.
They are there because they are speaking up for all RTE NUJ members, because they are well known and because Emma is chair of the RTE NUJ branch. Emma and her colleagues have worked for years in an environment where there is shoestring budget, which does not fix or replace faulty equipment and which also requires them to cover stories in other parts of the country as there is not enough staff.
My NUJ branch has told Emma and her branch members that we are 110% behind them.
How? The main page is now blank.
You must be clicking the links to other pages which is up on Google.
The index page is a default blank page. The deeper pages may still be there. Ironically, the .COM version of the domain name is for sale at $6,195. Don't think it has ever been owned by the Irish company. There is also a .UK registration (currently pointing to the .IE website) and previously .NET and .INFO registrations.

The Indo is really making hay with this story.

And there's more to come in today's hearings.
They discussed it on The Tonight Show, on VM1, and as a few folks noted, the chance of Tubridy walking back in to RTE is becoming more and more unlikely. I mean, when 200 of your fellow employees are outside picketing and angry about the pay sacrifices they had to accept. A photo of him was torn down in the RTE building, such is the anger that has been levelled against him.
And he is completely not without blame, no matter how folks try to spin it regarding 'he's also a victim'- well, no he's not. The pressure his agent put on RTE to 'give him his contractually obligated money'... and he's still owed about €120,000 to €150,000 according to the two years left on his contract.
It is interesting to note how many that are reporting on this are also represented by Kelly. And the incoming 'talent', Patrick Kielty, must seriously be questioning whether he wants to take the LLS gig now, knowing the absolute snake pit he's walking into..
Didn't know about the photo being torn down. The main problem RTE management would have is getting people to work with him. Based on the performance of the RTE people at the PAC yesterday, their time as RTE board members may be rapidly drawing to a close and the upper management of RTE may also be in trouble. I thnk that someone upthread pointed out that Kielty is not with NKM. That, if correct, is an interesting point.
RTE's funding is still a major problem for the government and for the Irish media landscape. It overpays mediocre talent and is funded by the licence fee, government funding and advertising. Other broadcasters are at a severe disadvantage because they don't have licence fee funding. The media landscape in Ireland has changed in the last few decades and RTE has lost much of its audience to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify. The same thing happened when satellite TV and cable TV entered the market providing UK channels.
I doubt that he was charging SVP, but many of these folks would be very active on corporate event nixers- presenting away or chairing a conference or just an after dinner speech for €5k or €10 or more a pop.
That should probably now read “had”.
One good/great thing that will come from this is any contract he tries to negotiate from now on will he will be coming at it from an altogether different bargaining position.
Even the current chair admitted yesterday “we were effectively competing against ourselves” on contracts. “Bonkers”.
Jesus I’ve been his and Kelly’s biggest critic on here for years, but even I don’t think he’d charge SVdeP. He surely wouldn’t?
I always said the radio ads he did every year for them were a cynical play to take the good aspects of the SVdeP brand and infuse them into his own (fake) #kindness and caring brand. I didn’t think I could think any less of him, but if he and his agent charged a charity for his services…..,,,
There is also the issue if the Bogus Contractors. They have already paid 2.1m to Revenue and stated they expect the final figure to much higher.
Scope https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/a07d6-operational-guidelines-scope-section-insurability-for-prsi-purposes/
At this stage, RTE needs some radical reengineering if it is to survive. Clearly, the corporate governance and management was not sufficient.
If only certain people had been pointing these things out for years……
My guess is that RT toughs it out, returns to radio in a few weeks, and makes no further comment on the matter.
He is under contract, and so are the support staff and researchers.
I thought RTÉ confirmed he is not under contract but are still paying him anyway
Always follow the money. These so called barter accounts in this instance. Bartering between individuals is old but was largely replaced by a system using money as a means of equating value etc.
We all know that money as income is liable for tax, that’s how the system works. Benefit in Kind is a type of bartering for individuals employed with businesses but there are strict limits on BIK to limit abuse.
Suppose there was a large Walmart type business selling food, household goods, fuel etc. You couldn’t barter your services of labour with them and get food, household goods, fuel etc. in exchange for your labour.
Yet that is what RTÉ and apparently other businesses are doing, not for a few € here & there but for sums involving hundreds of thousands €
This needs to be fully exposed and RTÉ as a state entity answerable to the state is a good place to start.
So will tubs have to pay it back or is it a case of
I would like to see Joe Duffy's Funny Friday accounts. The LL team appear to decamp into a hotel for the weekend, with Joes showbusiness friends joining them. 'Free' advertising for all?
One of the highlights from yesterday.
AAnd there they go, all sacked;
However, the devil you know.........
I get the strong impression that the RTE Board chair (Siun) had very little control and that it's easy to pull the wool over her eyes. The CFO runs the show.
I feel bad for the actual tubridy fans that have often posted here in his honour, it seems they’ve been abandoned by absolutely everyone, at least scholfield milked it for a few weeks before leaving
Don't feel too bad for them. A few turned on him as soon as the tide changed 😉
It is tough being right when others are wrong.
Could not agree more with this. Funny Friday is a waste of money if ever money was wasted. At least the upcoming Funny Friday is cancelled and hopefully never to return.
