Of all things to lie about, I don't think he'd risk lying about something fairly small and inconsequential, and which is very easy to prove. I think he just took the question up wrong.

This RTE board has nothing but distain for the committee. They just see it as something they have to get through, a waste of time with subordinates that get less money than them, and have never to get back to. This is merely optics for them. Say nothing.
Optically it looks bad because Irish people are very resentful and spiteful towards higher earners, particularly towards people who work in RTE. Apparently the Radio forum on this site has been a bitchfest towards people’s salaries for the best part of fifteen years. For reasons I don’t personally agree with there is a perception that people who work for RTE are somehow public property who can be slaughtered and slandered with impunity.
Ethically/morally I don’t see how Ryan did anything wrong. He didn’t enrich himself from selling slaves to Lithium miners or from building skyscrapers in Dubai. He accepted an absurd pay rise from a company that dispenses money like Smarties. The fault lies with RTE.

It’s obvious what happened: NK is a great agent so he negotiated a fantastic deal for his client, and the dopey wasteful culture in RTE meant some idiot signed off on it without considering the consequences/budget.
The thing is that the whos and the whens doesn’t matter, what does matter is that it is yet another example of the profligate culture in RTE that needs to end.
Resources should be focused on reforming RTE instead of these tabloidy wish fulfilment fantasies of Tubridy or NK sweating under the red hot lights of a Dail committee. That’s performative rubbish. It’s time for action.
