Maybe Putin will pull some of the troops back after realising how vulnerable they are to a domestic rebellion. Maybe this could be the beginning of the end?
Putin will have him dealt with in the near future, you can be sure of that.
There's no way Wagner and their equipment is heading back to Ukraine to be shot in the back. So that's a positive for Ukraine.
Putin called him a backstabber today and now letting him off Scott free. Doesn’t add up.
Concentrate with what??
You have to imagine that Pergozin got himself a deal from the Kremlin. This will make Putin look weak. Pergozin gets to avoid bloodshed and gets what he wants. If Shogyiu and Gerassimov are casualties of the deal then Putin is no longer in control.
It's not a win win for Ukraine im afraid to say. Russian troops pulled out of Ukraine to defend the homeland would have been a win win. In all likelihood an embarrassed Putin will want to deflect now over the next few days and will concentrate on the war effort.
Those 24 hours might just turn out to be enough of the whispers of the Ukrainians crossing the Dnieper are valid. If they manage to secure the south bank then they'll have achieved something that wasn't at all likely a day ago. Fingers crossed.
Former supporter of Prigozhin about alleged agreement between Prigozhin and Russian authorities:
"Now it's finally allowed to say the three things he's been promised. 1. Shoigu's resignation. 2. Amnesty for "musicians" [Wagner mercenaries]. 3. The possibility to return to Africa. I'm sure that in reality he signed his own death sentence. And Wagner PMC as well, of course."
Not a good sign if Wagner is able to strong arm the Russian government to remove officials- It certainly sets a precedent.
Quite a few Russia analysts are scratching their heads and wondering what on earth happens next - the so called climbdown or pull back doesn't make much sense. There is clearly very bad blood between Prigozhin and Putin
All those people who went out to greet the soldiers this morning could be getting uncomfortable visits from the FSB tomorrow
All good points here
My hope was that it was part of a larger plan with allies in Russian military and the oligarchy.
Maybe a coup in Belarus also.
It seems like it was just a bluff to achieve minor goals.
A civil war in Russia timed perfectly with a Ukrainian counteroffensive would be ideal.
I’m surprised they didn’t try some attacks that could have escalated tensions between Wagner and Moscow.
Its all a plot to take the heat off Tubs! Dee Forbes on holiday - coincidence - I think not...
Real pity this seems to have ended so quick Ukraine could have done with this dragging out for a week or two just to tie up Putin and supplies .Ukraine might have being able to make some significant gains in that time with minimal losses.
Interesting take
Maybe, in time, we will find out that the biggest thing that happened today happened somewhere far from the road to Moscow, where the eyes of the World were focused.
Tubridy is bulling
Jesus thats a serious anticlimax.
Thought we had another submarine countdown on our hands. What a tease.
Looks like Prigozhin's hangover has finally hit.
Lukashenko promised a few bottles of prime stuff and immunity and talked him down
Prigozhin surely must have been promised a lot
Prigozhi has made a statement to that effect himself - i.e. saying his forces are turning around.
But it would leave Putin hugely politically damaged. No way does he come out of this looking well.
This never looked like a "coup" attempt to me. Pergozin never once today mentioned Putin's name. Looks like he just got better terms for his guys that he's been shouting for for months.
Not sure I believe the rumours surrounding Russia's top military brass regarding some deal done. I'd be surprised if Putin backed that as it would surely only damage his own position more.
Doesn't matter which way it's spun this is not the ending anyone wanted. Putin has lived to fight another day.
It’s coming from Belarus too…I’d hold off on believing this one until more is known. Might be designed to just confuse the Wagners advancing on Moscow.
Feels more like a ceasefire of sorts, but time will tell
They don't have bases
Hard to see how things can be as before, given what’s gone down. Did military support ooze away from Wagner? Why would they pause and allow administration time to reinforce the Kremlin? Who would trust Putin or Luka?
Have Pergozin or Putin made a on camera statement yet? Seems odd that this broke via a known Putin ally and apparently the "confirmation" came via tape? Seems odd given all the footage I've seen of him (Pergozin) making statements on Sky all day
Could be disinformation to confuse the en-route troops I suppose. Who knows.
