Ah yeah,I didn't think that through.
We are going to beat Louth and Cork and finish on 6 points. End of story
Anything else will be a major failure really.
Where do you get the statistics on the expected scores? Excellent stat to give you more insight into how a game actually went. I'd like to see the stats for Mayo v Kerry last year in championship. A game Mayo could easily have won but it was all doom and gloom afterwards because of how the scores went. I'm pretty sure Mayo created more and better scoring opportunities. I didn't think Kerry were really that good based on their championship performances last year, even before Mayo played them recently
Woops. Messed up not dropping the link to the source of those figures.
Folks like Stephen (@somearagaa) and Matt (@GAA_Statsman) put all sorts of work into producing the numbers or the shotmaps so nice to at the very least credit them properly. Mia culpa.
Micky will relish this contest, expecting Louth to give it a go but i expect Mayo to pull away in the 3rd quarter.
Would like to see the team target 20+ points in every game from now on, as that will be the needed number to damage teams in the knockouts.
Eoghan Mclaughlin out for next two games due to surgery on his hand apparently!
Should have no problem getting 20+ points against a Louth side that was hammered by Dublin in the Lenister final and shipped another big score to average Cork side on Saturday. Louth going up against a rested Mayo makes things even more difficult I would expect Mayo to win something like 2-20 to 0-13
Anyone hazard a guess on venue for the Cork game?
Has to be Ennis or Limerick.
Outside of that game v Kerry in 2014 Limerick has been a happy hunting ground, including v Cork.
We rode our luck that day against Cork
Of course it has to be one of those two.
But I'd not be one bit surprised if they brought it to Croke Park
Probably Croke park for a double header with Louth Kerry?
Yeah,I was there.
Sean Powter should have been motm.
We're a fitter team now with a bit less experience but we should be winning it.
Hopefully Ennis on the Saturday, ive prov booked the Saturday night there. Brilliant night out had there night of Clare qualifier few years ago, great town
They got bad attendance's at some of the QF's last year. I think there will be a conscious effort to avoid dragging fans accross the country for matches to make double headers in CP.
Doubt if Kerry Louth would be an attractive double header. Even if it was Limerick would be adequate for both games. There is eight final round game scheduled
You have a huge schedule of matches that weekend. Hurling preliminary QF's, Tailtain cup QF's and final round of the football round robins. A lot of northern teams in games. Dublin/Sligo will probably be in Hyde Pairc. I say Mayo Cork looks a virtual certainly for Limerick
Don’t underestimate the ability of the GAA not to make the same mistakes twice. Also they will be more concerned about the noise the vendors that have contracts in Croke park to sell chips and pints than of GAA fans and membership.
They already have the 4 QFs sold this year as Croker matches (https://crokepark.ie/matchday 1st & 2nd July "Quarter Finals" both days as plural so two double headers) despite being listed as CCCC to decide on the Master Fixture List... so they're definitely repeating that one and trying to hide it a little.
Hopefully.
Mayo's past history suggests that they tend to drop a level or two when playing inferior teams, making hard work of it ,eventually beating them by fine margins.
No injuries before knockout would also be a bonus, so might see some squad rotation during these group games.
Same team as named to start against kerry. Two changes on the subs I think? Mchale & plunkett out for irwin & mccormack?
No Cillian on the bench either
James McCormack, Frank Irwin and Conor McStay coming in for Eoghan McLaughlin, Kevin McLoughlin & Darren McHale.
It'd be great to see Frank, James and Bob get some time in. The middle is the one area we're a little light on options used outside of the regular starters so be nice to have more options with some extra match sharpness there.
We were there too.
The abiding sense heading home was why on earth Cork couldn't turn up like that against any of the Kerry teams they togged out against.
They always lift their game for Mayo,so be it.
If it comes down to a knockout Mayo v Cork game I know who my money is on.
A bit of the shine taken off our win in killarney after that performance
Ah I see Galway needed another red card to get them over the line against Westmeath, I’d still have Mayo out in front of everyone else
Wide open
According to Saturday Sport they showed their true class dismantling them in the 2nd half.
Galway now building media momentum as the new darlings of the GAA world as Kerry is no longer their cup of tea.
Considering their big wins are beating Armagh on penalties & beating a limited Derry team, I still have no idea how they’re favourites- I’d fancy Mayo to beat Galway in Croke Park every time.
Except in an AI final. Mayo would find a way to lose the game
They didn’t get beaten out the gate by Kerry………….unlike another team the same yr…………
