So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
Good to know, cheers. Wasn't obvious at all that I should have been in there. Sounds like there will be a collision between cyclist and pedestrian in no time.
Entire area is a mess, and will be until it finishes up, so I wouldn't worry about it at all. With people walking in the cycle lane, cycling in the bus lane is a valid choice, and totally legal regardless.
My taxi man friend wasn't enjoying a nice sunny day. The chap should have gone for a nice leisurely cycle.
If all cyclists in the cycle lane ring the bell on their bikes when approaching pedestrians stupidly walking in the cycle lane, perhaps the pedestrians will soon learn that they shouldn't be walking there.
You should report that taxi driver to the NTA. They feel too much entitled, similar to some farmers.
Didn't even acknowledge him, wouldn't give him the satisfaction. Much less get his taxi plate number.
We should ban these pesky taxi drivers off College Green corridor asap for them to feel not being the kings of the city roads. We all share roads equally. I am a driver myself, but am extra careful to be safe and sound with pedestrians and cyclists. Especially cyclists as they often are equipped with cameras and sometimes are angry. I don't want to piss them off. But there's the reasons they are like this. Taxi drivers are much more protected around their metal can. They are just arrogant c u next tuesday 😁
Just on one point: you really shouldn't need the possibility of being filmed to drive safely past a vulnerable road user.
As for getting angry, this only happens me when someone puts me in danger for their own convenience
Another stop/go system in place at the bridge just after Westwood. It was at the Alfie Byrne road last weekend and caused huge delays so expect something similar this weekend.
There is also one at the moment between Xavier Avenue and Northbrook Avenue. No idea for how long because why would they bother telling locals anything about it?
'Road Control' in charge, so we know what to expect.
There's so much wrong with the works that it isn't even funny. The roads are borderline dangerous, especially for cyclists. The footpaths from the fire brigade station to the 5 lamps are a disgrace. I don't know who is signing off on all this but you wouldn't see this type of thing on a building site. It would be shutdown by a competent healtha md safety officer until it was made safe.
Was headed in on the path yesterday around 13.40. Woman walked into the cycle lane looking in the opposite direction close to the footbridge and collided with a scooter rider, despite bells and shouting. Neither fell over, but it was close. Then on the part closer to Annesley there was a group of about 15 foreign students. They sort of single filed after I told them it was a cycle lane.
I've come across various people walking in the lane, and just slow down and politely tell them it's a cycle lane. I stopped for one old lady last week, to help her across the road.
i notice tourists on dublin bikes going the wrong way in dedicated cycle lanes.... especially on the quays
Walking past the roadworks at the junction of Alfie Byrne Road and Clontarf Road spotted quite a few raised manhole covers.
I’m hoping they will be levelled off when the final road surface is laid but then the drain covers will be below the surface.
Do ya really think now that you're the only one that noticed that and that the builders haven't?
It's a building site FFS
There will be even more oldies and mobility impaired on the footpaths hoofing it to the moved bus stops. A triumph of planning.
That's fine, the footpaths are where they should be
Thankfully they have now separated the footpath and cycle path in that case.
That's a big plus. I think the path might end up quite narrow on the Stafford's side once another cycle lane is put in. Not sure if they will replace the two disappearing bus stops on that side with car parking spaces too.
I wonder when do they move to the other side of the road. There are days when it appears absolutely nothing is happening.
Do you know is the plan to open the inward bound cycle lane while they work on the other side, or just wait until it is all done?
They're opening it as they go, the part through Marino/Fairview is already open.
In some sections they've already started on the outbound side of the road.
But they’ve left most of the cycle lanes blocked off, filled with waste and unusable.
I don't know if I'm missing some irony here, but removing a bus stop and replacing it with car parking spaces (!) in one of the highest-density parts of Dublin that some of the lowest car utilization rates, is egregiously stupid.
It must have been to pacify some moany objectors I'd say
Whatever about having section of the C2CC as two-way cycle paths, Griffith Ave would have worked far better as a two-way cycle path and parking where possible put on the opposite side (so no need for buffer space).
i noticed this on the east side too — really deep and some larger trenches for the water main works, yet, it keeps being dismissed.
Full street revamps like this can be disruption on their own but the water main is really an extra layer to it.
I must have been just really really luck every time I’ve visited the area.
I think they had to appease people with no option but on street parking maybe?People don’t want to park and then have to cross a wide street. People are also lazy.
But the on street parking is for people on both sides of the street, so some have to cross either way.
I agree completely, it should be a two way cycle path on one side (probably the school side) with parking on the other side. What they have created now is dangerous for Children cycling to school. Putting parking on the other side of the street would also have been safer for kids been driven to school as they could exit the parked car onto a footpath, rather then into the middle of a cycle lane!
BTW they have done even crazier stuff with this cycle lane in the past week, I’ll post some pictures of it tomorrow if I get time!
It’s a poor design, it’s badly executed, and I can’t understand how it can take so long.
But any chance, did you raise your concerns during the public consultations and if so, what was the response you received back?
