New grant for lime

Saw a new grant for liming fields. We are in acres and have BISS and Anc payments, so hoping I am correct in that I am eligible.

HAve fields with a lot of heavy rushes. Would it be worth liming these fields (get the odd bit of fertiliser) but been overstocked and rushes have taken over. Wet enough so would liming and topping around May be a good plan.

Regrettable move. Will only increase the cost of lime to everyone. It wasn't expensive to begin with & most know the Value of it to soil.

Appeasing greens & looking for something to put on the flyers to farmers & joe public at next election

€8 million, suppose there's no money for umpteen other things more worthy & needed.

Think you only need soil sample results if it is part of the eco scheme. The new scheme launched today doesn't need this

Lime to west Cork was 23 per ton last Sept.... Now 30 per ton.... As usual anything grant aided just shoots up in price 🙄🙄

paid €27 a ton spread a couple of weeks ago. He said the price was due to go up the following week, so if it goes up again because of the grant that’s a fair hike.

as someone above said, it’s not rewarding the farmer who spread lime regularly and kept the soul in good health. Government intervention in most areas isn’t usually a good idea.

To be fair lime went up this past year without a grant like everything else.

Because the dept already have their soil sample reports and it's already part of the dero to spread lime.

But the main reason is the soil samples. The 8m will go further without them in it.

Plus we've the weakest farm lobby to confront the dept since the foundation of the state. The lobby are a bag of cats pulling on each other with the dept grinning.

Because as derogation farmers we must spread it as part of our nutrients plan so they already have us in the net.

General principle is that they don't give grants for something that you are already obliged to have in place.

Occasionally they can deviate from this. One example was that when they brought people under mandatory LESS a few years ago, there was a years grace period under which you could still apply for equipment under TAMS

At least the farmer who has the lime out won't be caught for big amounts of dear grant lime Maintaining won't break anyone.The soil testing is the big gain for the dept down the road.

I suspect that the Dept may control the representative group's by carrot and stick, it's all covered under the right of inspection.

To get around this we'd need professional people running the farm organisations with no direct hand in the industry, but this could could cause as many problems as it would solve.

If they get soil samples of all peat based grassland for €16 a ton of lime, might be great value, while keeping an eye on fert use also.

After all said I think it's very good idea.

If one applies for say 60 t in the grant application and some issue later on means you ended up only spreading 30t .. does anyone know if that will cause an issue when your submitting invoices for less then you origionally applied for (applying less then you previously said on the application)?

Any update on when approvals for this might be sent out?

I've a few acres to reseed and I'd like to get lime on it in the coming weeks, but I'm assuming you can't claim in arrears for this scheme.

Spread away - once you've applied you can spread away and claim for it later in the year when the system is up and running.

Who do people find best for soil tests - IAS, FBA, Southern Scientific etc.

Are any of them more accurate than the other or any to be avoided ?

a lot of schemes are over subscribed but are never actually fully drawn down by the farmer. If I was a betting man I’d wager anyone who applies for the grant will get the full amount
