Constantly whinging on here about Dublin wont change anything , Dublin has a huge population , however the majority have no interest in Gaelic football or Hurling , but im sure you know that .
Why do you think , they can still only put 15 players on the pitch regardless of how many players they have
Fair enough they had a huge Financial sponsor in AIG which gave them a huge advantage, but most top counties have caught up with them , that's why they were operating in division 2 this year
They don't seem to have anything close to what they had coming through at the moment, I think they will struggle win another all Ireland over the next few years
Limerick have won 4of the last 5 all Ireland's in hurling, that's down to a similar set up as Dublin had
Cork have Mike Ashley involved with them with a huge sponsor deal at the moment
Mayo , Galway and Kerry have their own business people behind them
The game has changed since that AIG deal ten years ago it's up to other counties to either go down the same route or go backwards
But Dublin has a population well over double Connachts and theres a significant portion of that population in the capital who dont and never have played GAA which is far less likely around country in rural areas especially so the games development funding should be far higher in Dublin.. No?
GPO's don't train teams. Not all clubs in Dublin have GPO. Dublin implemented coaching structure is 1997. What other counties submitted coaching proposals to Croke Park that were turned down?
Why don't clubs other counties invest money in underage coaching structures than paying the adult manager. Plenty of clubs in Ireland bringing in outside managers paying from €100-200 a session. Invest the money at the grassroots instead.
Yes, dublin have a higher population. Yes , they should be getting more funding. But should that funding have been 17 times their nearest neighbour? I don't think so
The funding and resources is starting to spread out a bit now anyway, so hopefully we will see a bit more balance in the future. But again, it doesn't discount the special treatment that dublin have gotten in the past
GPOs don't train teams?
After a 10 second Google search, I found this is from ranelagh gaels, who have a full time gpo:
"The role of our GPO is to head up the coaching & games of our club & implement strategies at all grades from our Academy 4+ right up to our eldest teams."
But your bringing up the past ? its done move on !
Well done you
I won't "jog on", I'm finding this to be an invigorating discussion and I think it's important to keep reminding people of Dublin's insane advantages.
Yes but if you have a massive population, you will also have a higher percentage of top centile players. The games development money will help you identify those players young and fully develop their potential. So we see again Dublin's advantages in population and funding manifesting themselves. Limerick also get way too much funding but that's a different conversation. The AIG deal is ongoing until the end of this year and we'll be feeling the negative consequences of Dublin's overfunding for many, many years to come.
GDOs help Dublin's intercounty side by A. Developing junior players (and even senior ones, as Stupidlikeafox has pointed out) and B. Enabling Dublin spend money that would otherwise be spent on GDOs on the county side. There was never any reason for Dublin to be overfunded, especially for so long and when their other advantages are accounted for.
As has been pointed out, repeatedly, by any metric you want to use (€/player, €/head of population, €/registered club), Dublin were completely overfunded relative to everyone else.
That's no problem please continue , i find this to be a hilarious discussion , i also think its important to remind people what you are up too ,trying to make it easier for your County to win All Irelands , again not gonna happen this dream in your head of a Dublin split .
Were completely overfunded , tis sorted now lad
Nail on the head and fair play for acknowledging the 20 year head start that Dublin were given over other counties.
This nonsense is surely passe at this stage. Dublin had the greatest team in the history of the game. I loved watching them, they brought a swagger to the game and I couldn't care less how they did it. Good management from John costello down I suspect. I wish Dublin the best and hope they win it again this year.
The funding was based getting more kids/teens playing gaelic games. There were/still are huge swaths of Dublin with huge populations where only soccer or rugby is played. The metric was non playing population and compared to other counties 17 to 1 is low. The funding should have been even higher.
Ah thanks , now can you stop whinging lad ?
Point out where I was whinging? I've been nothing but factual, the fact you are getting so salty about it says a lot.
Now lad you haven't stopped whinging about Dublin , it's an unhealthy obsession you have there.
funding is fine , the aig deal gave them the advantage in my opinion like limerick and jp mcmanus, i think funding in dublin is like chelsea in soccer with todd boley , you cant just throw money around and hope everything goes right , in dublin soccer is huge ,and hurling is really suffering up there in the main hartlands in south dublin , why , leinster rugby have probably one of the best underage age academy in world rugby , if you are a young lad going to school in kiliney and and playing rugby and hurling , who are you asspiring to be the next Mark shutte or the next hugo keenan
i would argue that dublin hurling needs way more funding just to keep it competitive , and if they do get it and knock us out of the championship in time more power to them but its a different scene up there altogether gaa wise
Do Dublin always get to warm-up in front of Hill 16 before every match in Croke Park?
unless mayo get out of the dressing room before them usually yes
Do you always ask a question when you already know the answer ?
Ha ha. I don't think the ploy really worked for Mayo. They did win in the end, but as far as I recall, Dublin raced into a significant early league. I don't remember the details, but I am fairly sure that Dublin were 6 points up at one stage.
No, Mayo actually started well - went four points up, Dublin then got going, went seven up at one stage in the second half , before Mayo reeled them in, down the home stretch. But I remember Dublin being completely rattled for the first 15 minutes of that game. Was some event!
If Croke Park is neutral, should a toss of a coin determine who gets choice of which side to warmup?
It does seem strange that this has not been sorted out before. I'm sure many counties would like to force Dublin into a toos of a coin rather than Always give them the Hill for warming up.
Unless someone knows of a reason why it always happens.
The dressing rooms are designated in alphabetical order, Átha Cliath, so Dublin will get the Hill 16 end dressing room in all cases unless playing Armagh.
Have Armagh warmed up in front of the Hill? I can't recall to be honest. I would have thought they would - to put Dublin out a bit - if they could.
