I actually heard this week that Trump is facing a new indictment/grand jury over old news, more financial crimes, because as the prosecutors noted he was embroiled in so many, potentially larger crimes (like the insurrection) that they didn't want to step on the feet of those prosecutions.
Trump literally did so many crimes that his lesser crimes were simply ignored. I heard it likened to committing murder to avoid charges for shoplifting.
The base doesn't care, there's always an excuse. If your guy broke the law, it's the worst scandal in the history of the world. If my guy broke the law then the deep state is corrupt. We are good, you are evil, etc.
