Occupants are preparing for a Ukrainian offensive
New satellite images show that Russian troops have stepped up construction of fortifications in the occupied regions of Ukraine.
Mostly in the South. They are afraid of a breakthrough of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Melitopol and the Sea of Azov, as the Crimean bridge will be under threat.
I wish they could get some western air power, that is a lot of territory.
This year, Ukraine will receive 252 Western tanks, in addition to the approximately 550 Soviet tanks that have already been delivered or will be delivered in the near future:

Boyd Barrett on telly last night again talking about the hypocrisy of opposing the Russian invasion but not Israeli aggression toward Palestine or the American invasion of Iraq. Although I take the point that aggressor nations should generally be opposed, I'm not sure what his conclusion is. Is it that because European countries did not do enough to prevent the USA invading Iraq, they should stand back and let Russia have at Ukraine in order to maintain moral consistency?

Officially yes, but there have been historic instances of them clearing out during times of war. They cleared out completly when Napoleon invaded (He took the city itself, but was very pissed to find out that taking Moscow didn't result in an overall win -as was the tradition of the time) and when Nazi Germany seemed poised to take the city themselves the Soviets evaculated a good bit of the government East and away from the fighting.
Unless Moscow becomes Ground-Zero in civil war fighting I don't think they'll do it yet...but if they are thinking about it at all, it is interesting.

If the Second Russian Civil War is already starting to kick off (*IF*...we've no solid proof anything is happening yet), things might get a little worse in Ukraine in the short term. The last thing you want is someone else's civil war spilling onto your own borders. It also complicates things if one faction turns out to be friendly to Kyiv. Much easier to combat a singluar foe than to try to filter out the Russians you don't want to hurt.
If true, this would likely deminish Russia's ability to hold back any organised counter attack. If the Russians really are at each others troats, there won't be much left to keep their army going.
Interestingly, current Minister Of Defence Sergei Shoigu proposed moving the capital to Siberia around the time he was Governor of Moscow Oblast. This article from 2012:

There's talks apparently to move the capital to some back of beyond part of the country. Seemingly the bunker in moscow is not good enough anymore.
I made that comment here yesterday as well. It's pretty obvious. Every time the Russians seem to be thinking of withdrawal, the Ukrainians hint we are nearly beaten in Bakhmut. Bakhmut is the gift that keeps on giving to the UA. They are killing and maiming Russian's at the rate of 7-1. The last thing you want is for them to do is disengage.
He'll have to start taking from the white Russian population at some stage. That or start flinging Chechen grandmothers at the frontline. Not that I want to be giving him any possible ideas...

Russia is currently planning to conscript another 400,000 men to fight in Ukraine,
They started out with 250,000 ,then went for another 100,000 , followed by another 300,000 ,now needing another 400,000 , 1.5 million men and yet they made next to no progress in the last few months,
Because its Putin doing the thinking, and he's basing his plans on the fairy tales his generals are telling him.
Looks like Putin has been keenly studying Hitler's Nazis and is eager to emulate their various ways and methods. He's going to be awfully shook when gets to the chapter about how the Nazis ended up.
I've seen some social media comment on the information around Bakhmut from the Ukrainain side being designed to help the muscovytes think they were making progress in Bakhmut so they would be more inclined to throw more of their forces into the meat grinder there and by doing so leave themselves incapable of reacting when Ukraine decides it is a good time for their counter offensive to start.
I think thats the one that just picked up the best documentary Oscar.
There is a documentary about Alexei Navalny on RTE 2 a 22.40 tonight. He is opposition to Putin and was poisoned.
