I lost my bag with my wallet and passport in france (smart i know) but my wallet contsined my 4 firearm licences how do i get the licences replaced?
Contact your firearms officer and inform them of the loss. Ask for reprints.
You will most likely have to explain the loss in terms of where, how, when, etc.
Were you shooting in France?. If, as I suspect, no, then lesson for everyone. Empty your wallet of cards, FAC, store cards, membership cards etc. They are a mine of info for identity theft etc. Sorry for your loss but now means that you have to be extra vigilant for everything as those FAC contained alot of info.
I'll add one to that, consider taking front and backs of your licences and sticking them into a secure folder on your phone.
Put the physical licences somewhere safe at home and if you need to purchase ammo or go shooting or whatever you need your licences for then you likely have your phone, and therefore your licences with you.
Just a consideration if you still wish to carry your licences with you regularly rather than only when you need to.
Arguably worse if you lost the physical ones here as they point a criminal directly towards an address which has firearms in it.
Send me front and back pics of your license and I'll buy some ammo for you. 😄
..
Considering that is what is required to purchase ammo online I already have them taken thanks 😁
Found it before my flight all good some girl on my college trip had it for a few took my smokes but left everything else
I dont understood why the address is on the physical licence, if anything, it is a risk for the licence holder that if lost, someone finding the licence now knows there are firearms at the address. If it was necessary, a person could confirm their firearm licence to a member of the Gardai if requested, with another Photo ID such as a drivers licence.
One driver style licence should be all that is required. Giving firearms details on the back for every firearm licensed. A reprint issued when there is any change. Not much to ask for 80 quid for most changes.
A photo should be on the front. I know they must have hundreds of me at this point sitting in a drawer somewhere.
No address details whatsoever.
Major savings on postage, process, man hours etc. Also far more secure for all parties involved. As it is anyone can pretend to the legitimate holder if they find or steal the cert. A bit ridiculous when you consider the onerous other security conditions imposed on both us and the RFDs. Still, I remember receiving renewals at one point in the distant past that said something like 'Return to Firearms Section if undelivered' so the PTB have never really thought through the most secure process, just the most convenient one for them.
Remember when your licences came in an envelope marked "if undelivered return to Firearms Department"
