I wonder how this will work out for him

Where on earth do you work that would not suspend you for accosting your boss at a work event?
That was an entirely normal thing to do, indeed its what would happen in basically every workplace going.
You left it out of your timeline, because it shows that Burke was the only one escalating the situation - which he did many, many times.
He was suspended for that, not for the simple act of objecting to something (that he was never going to have to do and doesn't affect him in the slightest)
Guys, you’re both wrong.
the student escalated it by having the cheek to transition while in the school with Burke. If they had any decency they’d have waited til they finished school.
🙄
Hold on. Burke objected and perhaps in ways that were quite strong & unreasonable but the situation was recoverable and could have easily blown over if cooler heads prevailed.
Once the school escalated by suspension and then injunction, the die was cast.
Everyone knew of his objections…he made sure of that in a very public way.
Who attended the school while suspended from work??
I hate the way Gardai deal with speeders on the road by escalating the situation and giving them tickets and penalty points.
Burke escalated in every case
The school took the rational response to protect the school at its pupils; and yet Burke escalated again. Every. Single. Time.
You left a critical step out there, by the way. Burke making a scene at the anniversary dinner before being suspended. He was not suspended for a simple objection.
You left that out because it ruins your claim that the school is responsible. They aren't responsible - Burke is.
That depends on where you take the starting point I guess? Let's see.
Who escalated the situation? Who knew of his objections and yet escalated the situation by suspending him and then getting a court injunction. Answer: the school.
He was imprisoned for ignoring a court order, but that does not change the fact that what what HD posted is made up rubbish.
Objected. I think you'll find he did more than that. Hence, why he was imprisoned.
Whoop de doo, they let prods in now! 🙄
Is it actually an RCC patronage school, or a "catholic ethos" ETB school (which most ETB schools are) ?
Do they have any "out" atheist teachers...?
Interestingly the rights of gay teachers are now protected by law in our schools but the rights of non-christians are not.
Are pupils allowed opt out of that mass without punishment?
(never mind, already clarified up thread)
Another dissembler.
What empathy has Mr Burke displayed towards the vulnerable student concerned?
Burke's beliefs are not the cause of his suspension and his legal troubles. His ACTIONS are the cause of his suspension and his legal troubles.
Well, did he go back to the school today?
The school he was suspended from for accosting the principal........ So who escalated it?
Hey, this is what YOU POSTED.
You stated that he singled out a vulnerable child for bullying, he did not, he objected to the school policy relating to calling someone “they”. That is a fact, stop making **** up.
Its reponding to Burkes escalation.
Who exactly took out the injunction to prevent Burke from attending the school?? https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/jailed-teacher-enoch-burke-lodges-appeal-against-injunction-preventing-him-from-attending-school-42040010.html
That's escalation and what ended him up in prison etc etc
Burke escalated the situation by making an issue of it at the dinner. An appropriate, sensible response (suspension) followed.
Burke further escalated the situation after his suspension by refusing to accept it. An appropriate, sensible response (injunction) followed.
Burke even further escalated the situation after the court order by refusing to accept it
The school didn't escalate anything.
FFS do we have to go over and over this again and again? Other posters have explained this already. I did not say what you are saying above
The parents requested that the school refer to the child as "they" and a new name, going forward.
The school principal agreed, in accordance with the school's equality and dignity policies, and communicated this request to the school staff.
Burke publicly protested this in a very inappropriate way. Everyone involved with the school at the event knew what child he was referring to. Burke is a bully. He could and should have made his objections behind closed doors.
It's really not hard to understand but some people seem to be really struggling here for no apparent reason.
The school then escalated the situation by suspending him from teaching and getting a court injunction.
The school escalated the situation? That's just patently untrue now isn't it?
The school didn’t escalate the situation. He did.
Any chance of a parent or BOM member being willing to retain them ended when he went to prison. Total inability to accept that they can be wrong is not a trait you want in a teacher.
Also, for every parent saying they're excellent is countered by another saying they aren't - there are student accounts of exceptionally dated teaching methods for instance.
How dare you attack me for comparing the issues!! I clearly said that you can't equate the two issues but that you can equate the link between heartfelt beliefs & actions in both cases. Several posters here have rubbished the idea that Burke's actions/ behaviour doesn't stem from his beliefs and my comparison is to show this up as false.
But it's also interesting to see how he is referred to as an "exceptional teacher" and "excellent".
I wonder how many BOM members would be willing to overlook his antics and the anniversary function for the sake of retaining a very good teacher.
And how many parents would be pissed off at losing a good teacher for their children because of all this.
This is at the core of the issue as reported and my understanding too from last autumn. It doesn't concern the actual student or their parents. Burke is/ was objecting to new policy being handed down from the principal/ board of management. His objections were and are with the school authorities, not the student. The school then escalated the situation by suspending him from teaching and getting a court injunction etc and so on. So the principal and school management have responsibility as much as anybody for how they have handled the matter. And they can get out of the hole by apologising and coming to some equitable arrangement that will respect his views and allow him to teach whilst ensuring that the student can attend in comfort.
Don't think I'd want someone who does "incredibly stupid" things looking after my kids, thank you very much.
Exactly. He doesnt teach them so it makes no bloody difference.
I think this parent summed it up nicely
Parents of children at Enoch Burke’s school say ‘exceptional teacher’ has been ‘incredibly stupid’
It’s a shame he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, says pupil’s mother as otherwise ‘excellent’ Enoch Burke defies High Court order to stay away
Aggrieved parents of pupils at Wilson’s Hospital School described teacher Enoch Burke as “incredibly stupid” for twice returning to the premises last week in defiance of a court order.
It’s actually quare funny that you’re using an example of a morally just movement to explain away Enoch burkes man baby tantrum.
Those women were fighting AGAINST inequality Enoch Burke is fighting FOR inequality.
How dare you compare them.
