Having a few babies once you get permanent also very common place.
Have a child in November, go back for a week before the end of the summer, take perental leave in September and hey presto you can manage to work 4 weeks in the year.

Fair play to Pat calling out the craziness of a 5 year career break. Complete farce, the excuses being put forward are the costs of childcare or looking after someone. A choice that everyone may have to make. If I left my job for 5 years, I wouldn't be qualified to walse back in after that time.
This is another public service racket that needs to be culled. Heard plenty of stories of people taking off for a year or two as soon as they get the permanent role safe in the knowledge you have your job waiting when you decide to come back
Fair dues to Pat. Highlighting that teachers have 5 year career breaks and then take off to Dubai for tax free wages leaving a position in an Irish school whereby the person filling in will never be made permanent.

Sometimes time difference, sometimes availability of contributors.
It shouldn't make any difference to the listener.
