The most devious businessmen and conmen always come across as very genuine. That's partly how they manage what they do.
The sickening thing is though most of the Celtic Tiger Galways Races sel- proclaimed property developers are back in businness selling crap houses for 500 and 600k.
Anyone know if we're still paying a levy for the collapse of PMPA Insurance as well as Quinn?
Tbh I'm no fan of Sean quinn but the only thing there that really bothers me is the Quinn insurance one, which he is directly responsible for because he was using it as a piggy bank
You can't blame him for Anglo. Blame for that lies squarely with Sean Fitz, David drumm (for running a complete basket case of a bank and approving loans for people to buy shares in the bank) and the government at the time (for including them in the bailout). Sean Quinn was stupid to bet the family silver on Anglo, but was a v small part of the reason for it failing. He ended up massively in debt to them and lost everything as a result. If he hadn't taken those loans from Anglo, it would still have gone bust and gotten a bailout, except it would not have been able to recoup anything from quinn group.
I couldn't care less how much his daughter spent on a wedding cake. A fool and their money etc. His son fleeing the jurisdiction is a sign of their arrogance but not sure how that impacts me, and the right to be forgotten is an EU right enjoyed by all
That's correct to the best of my knowledge.
I'm hearing that the present directors legal team threatened lawsuits if certain comments from Sean were left in.
Not quite true. He moved it stone by stone.
It's gas reading all the anti sean quinn posts from nomarks who never ran a sweet shop never mind set up a multi billion business. As for Alan Dukes, he appears to be almost ecstatic at quinns downfall, prick.
Dukes not buying the bullshit has probably been the best part of the viewing so far.
Didn’t dukes have his own brush with something a bit shady at some stage.
Nothing to stop him releasing video messages telling us what he wants us know is there?
My guess is he is bitter over the programme because other people, Dukes in particular, are sticking their oar in very deep, and loving it.
So far he is being consistently buried by Dukes with no comeback, in particular where he wanted a 10 year restructuring plan just needed ~€500m working capital.
Dukes has no consideration for anyone but himself as well.
An arrogant prick
Putting Austin Currie forward as a presidential candidate tells you all you need to know about him.
In fairness another €500 million wouldn't have made much difference and the whole Lot would have been paid back by this stage.
Maybe Dukes might enlighten us as to how much money they got back by taking control of the Quinn group and selling it .
F##k all I'll wager.
I think Dukes might bear in mind his shenanigans (to put it mildly) with Denis O'brien and siteserv before he gets on any high horse.
Absolutely, I mean there's no previous to suggest that he would have gone and gambled the additional €500 million on some other mad scheme and lost that as well, right?...
Amazes me that people continue to back this guy. Cavan and Fermanagh people should be delighted that he's well away from his old businesses so he can't blow the whole thing up a second time.
Why do we need to get his 'point of view' about anything. He is just another person, the same as 5 million of the rest of us.
Why not a proper academic explanation of how Quinn failed and what it still means for the country, for all of us.
How Sean Quinn 'feels' or what Sean Quinn 'thinks' is completely immaterial, except for people into personality cults.
Zero interest in his opinions.
There are most definitely not two sides to this story. This is not a situation where need a f***ing balanced view.
If a guy lights a BBQ in a forest in the white heat of summer that ends up burning down the entire forest, his own house and thousands of other houses in the process.....
...... would you ask that guy for his 'opinion' on what happened, and let him discuss whether actually maybe he wasnt responsible and how its all a media fabrication and that how he's been scapegoated and he's really not a bad guy after all.
Thats how I feel about Quinn and this show.
Its funny, most of the Quinn supporters are barely educated and walked into a handy job with him. No wonder they are such big fans, without him they’d never have gotten a job anywhere else…or have had one since. The lack of education is really evident whereby they can’t comprehend how he’s the one who screwed every single one of them over.
Dukes is a hero. Comes across as a nice man who takes no nonsense. He’s thrilled he gets his chance to stick the knife into Quinn and the kids. I’d say he’s waited a while to get it out into the open.
Just another ~€500m had been tried already, giving him loans to cover his margin calls.
Who's to say €500m would have been enough?
It was after a housing crash so demand for cement, blocks, sand and gravel would have been low anyway.
No way can the taxpayer keep handing €500m to somebody hoping they will come good.
Whatever about anything else, he does seem a bit too self-satisfied for my liking, the good guy snags the villain in his own head, and Fintan, why does he have to be wheeled out for every single documentary? what does he bring to it apart from his cod analysis of the Irish character
Wow you managed to be sanctimonious, arrogant, pompous and condescending all in one post! You're not a related to Dukes by any chance?
We are indeed, what tax/levy/tempiorary measure has ever been lifted from the cashcow that is the Irish tax payer? They just rebranded it as "stamp duty"...!
He added that these levies were often introduced on a temporary basis, but ended up being permanent, such as the PMPA one that is now called stamp duty.
That's a massive irony as well if he'd stayed out of Anglo and banking in general he'd have been perfectly placed to pick a load of property during the crash for half nothing and turn a massive profit on it now. He'd have been paraded around like a hero by Kenny and Noonan and the rest of them
Could be worse, they could have wheeled out Diarmaid Ferriter the only historian in Ireland!
Well said! If Quinn had did what he did here in the USA he's be doing 100 years in an Orange jumpsuit.
Not true at all.
America love risk taking entrepeneurs, and laud failure as much as success.
Nope. I’m just someone who doesn’t fall for the shït that Quinn and his cult of followers are forcing themselves to believe. Undoubtedly dodgy from the start of his career, he was dodgy to the end. He no doubt still has money stashed away but the amount doesn’t matter, the bitterness from no longer holding any power is eating him from the inside out. No matter how much money he has stashed away, it won’t make that bitterness and hatred that he has disappear and it’s glorious.
What thwy dont like though is corporate criminals and fraud.
Typical reply from someone who knows nothing about the man.
He has a lifetime of previous for sure.
For creating employment in a region where the rest of the country never gave a damn about.
More than a mouthpiece like Dukes every achieved.
was not the first time he got a big fine in the early 2000s for raiding the insurance fund to prop up other parts of his empire.
