Go to a pub,restaurant,shopping centre or sporting occasion and you will see people are done with it. Go to the airport and they are packed with people going away on holidays. You need to get over it and realise people are done with it and back living normal lives. You can keep living in fear of it but most of us are getting on with our lives

I don't agree with a lot of the lenience which goes on in our district courts (especially for those who are "locally well known" - Golfgate should have been tried in circuit court - and/or wealthy enough to offer their unfortunate assault victims €,000s) but the system has been like that decades before anyone ever heard about covid-19.

I suspect you know very well that the pub and travel restrictions were about limiting contact between people while the virus was circulating widely and vaccination rates were still low - but of course you have to go with the "did the meal prevent covid" shtick.

This one in particular though. Mandatory quarantine is an understandable measure for countries with little or no covid circulating in the community, and when it’s applied it to all incoming travellers.
In Ireland from Sept 2020 to September 2021, we had approx 800,000 inbound travellers. For the six month period of mandatory quarantine just 10,000 total incomers went through 14 day quarantine, out of maybe 300,000 - 400,000 people arriving. They found approx 600 covid positive travellers.

The process of adding countries was murky. A NEPHET sub-committee made recommendations for countries to be added to the list of designated countries, but while some were added straight away, other recommendations were delayed or not added. What was the process of deciding which were added? It seemed too arbitrary for a law.
Without going into the specific cases and their reasons and motives, it was a poorly made law that served little purpose other than to deter some tourists (and to waste some money).
Fair play to them. Sometimes the most public-spirited thing that you can do with despotic laws like these is to ignore them.
