Range Rover Velar ignored in Ireland

Was in Tullamore yesterday and spotted a high spec. Velar with big wheels . Looked very impressive with nearly as much presence as a full fat Range Rover . Got me thinking aside from seeing the odd basic spec. model with small wheels , you dont see many on the road or in dealers showrooms.

With better looks ( with right spec. ) and a better badge than the Discovery and a similar price , why arent these flying out of the showrooms like say the RR sport is ?

A late model high value vehicle like a velar without a full dealer history won't be worth as much. I thought fixed priced services had brought down pricing .

I know Lrs have a lot of problems but I still am amazed how busy the service dept of Lr dealer in Cork does be . Loads of vehicles in workshop and customer vehicles on site

Problem is the ingenium 2.0L Engines can grenade themselves cos the timing chains are snapping and land rover might not compensate if you dont use a main dealer.

I think this problem only happens if oil is not changed every 5000 miles

Have u a tried Stuarts ? Might be more competitive as a service rather than main dealer or conlans as just outside dealer

That depends on warranty, and whether it is invalidated by not having it serviced by LR. I traded in a two yr old discovery in 2019, got a call from LR garage a couple of weeks later asking if it had been serviced by anyone other than LR as the engine had blown on the new owner and LR were refusing to cover the 7k cost of replacement under warranty. I always service with main dealer and explained that I hadn’t. Don’t know what happened afterwards.

Don’t know if it’s the same with LR, I got a BMW in the UK last year for my daughter and a mechanic I know in a local BMW garage was able to look up service history in England, he said BMW link the two counties on their system.

If you were planning on keeping the car for a few years you would be saving €500+ a year on servicing over the course of a few years thats thousands of euro saved. If you built up a good comprehensive service history I’d imagine it would be worth the same or similar as a main dealer history.

If the car was being sold after 2/3 years when its still very expensive then it would be best to go main dealer, but if you were keeping the car for a few years I think a good independent or specialist would be a better financially

I’m not sure myself, the only place my Disco had been was their garage, it’s possible the new owner brought it to an independent who put some non LR part in which damaged the engine.

In theory, yes you can bring it somewhere else and not invalidate the warranty. In practice, the onus would be on you the customer to prove that the third party garage serviced the car following the defined procedure to the letter. That's a very difficult thing to prove. Suspension, brakes, pollen filter etc, Indy is fine when in warranty. Anything drivetrain related, I'd be going main dealer only.

yet people keep on buying them new and used. The service depot at LR in Cork might be doing alot of repairs , but i cant see it would be so busy ( especially with older vehicles ) if they were charging what Spirit quoted for servicing.

Sweeping generalisation.

I’m on my fourth, only had problems with one, which had repeated electrical problems, LR took it back at a very good trade in price as a result. I do appreciate that their customer ratings are poor, and there are reliability problems, but that doesn’t affect all cars. Prior to that I had BMWs, they spent more time in the garage.

strange I really thought fixed price servicing had meant when it came to just servicing , main dealers were fairly competitive .

As said i am amazed the main dealer in Cork is full of vehicles all the time ( and not all vehicles still under warranty ) if they are charging those prices. I am always surprised to see so many older vehicles there . The service dept alone could keep that place going.

At the moment the service Dept is keeping it going, I deal with them and they can’t get new cars until third quarter of next year.

I know we are a small country but surely each country such be a portioned an amount of each model. Like why hasn't the new range rover arrived here ?

If its under warranty I'd stick with a LR garage...you should only need 1 service per year and I think warranty is 3 years on most models? I wouldnt risk something major going and they refuse to cover it as it wasn't serviced by them.

I got an email from them saying if I didn't service within 1k miles/ 1600km or 1 month of when service was due my warranty could be void. €650 Incl VAT for 212 hybrid Evoque for standard service. My previous car a Disco sport was €500.

Must say I have had no hassle with the Evoque and very happy with it. Foot rest did break off but they replaced it under warranty. The Disco sport gave me a bit of bother ....exhaust sensor issue and dpf filter system failed and had to be replaced. All covered under warranty though.

My next car will be full electric so it will depend on if RR are at the races by then. Currently have plug in hybrid and its a waste of time.
