The Maginot line worked, it encouraged the Germans to go through Belgium where the French were expecting to fight.
Nothing wrong with digging an entrenched position, that's why we have engineers. In Russian doctrine (and frankly, Western doctrine), defensive positions exist in order to (a) attrit enemy attacks to allow counter-offensive operation, and (b) reduce manning requirements for one sector of the line to allow for offensive operations in another sector.
My thoughts exactly, 1918 called and said ‘they’re grand’, they don’t want their failed strategy back.

I think Russia will have a cold winter this year without revenue from Europes oil and gas from Russia.
I suppose it's unlikely to be attacked when full of civilians, meet the new dolphins.....
There's actually been rumours in that direction. Initial regime response to the bridge bombing was quite 'odd', as if they were very unsure who to publicly blame.
It is an irony that the Russians invented this thing in the first place-
That's nothing, just wait until they find out it was some of their own who bombed it.
Good point.
Trench are no good unless you can fill defend them random trenches in random fields aren't going to stop alot
Interesting shift in tone on the Russian talk shows in the last 48 hours. They don't even seem to be even denying that the regime is deliberately targeting civilians.
Looks like the bombing of the Kerch Bridge left them absolutely enraged and baying for revenge.
Have those eejits ever read a history book?
It also means that they've given up any of their earlier rhetoric of taking the whole country, they're just hoping to hang onto what they've taken so far.
In other news: Those living in Crimea aren't worried...
That's going to be a bit of a load on that single lane...
Looks like the Russians are intending to dig in heavily around the Luhansk region.
Your absolutely correct.
But there is a real possiblity he will be forced by putin to get physically involved in the war ,
Our experts on here have next to no clue what he will or what he won't do ,
"We are prepared to negotiate......so long as we get everything that we want"
I reject your hypothesis
Did you just step out of your Tardis and forget to check the date?
You know, you really should try reading the thread you are link bombing, you might just learn something.
According to Elon Musk (apparently):-
In a mailout sent to Eurasia Group subscribers, Ian Bremmer wrote that Tesla CEO Musk told him that Putin was “prepared to negotiate,” but only if Crimea remained Russian, if Ukraine accepted a form of permanent neutrality, and Ukraine recognised Russia’s annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
According to Bremmer, Musk said Putin told him these goals would be accomplished “no matter what,” including the potential of a nuclear strike if Ukraine invaded Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014. Bremmer wrote that Musk told him that “everything needed to be done to avoid that outcome.”
Hearsay.
Your point?!
🤣
I absolutely dread to think what they might find in Kherson and Mariupol.
None so blind as those who will not see... Isn't the daughter of your beloved overlord also a pediatrician?
Do get back to us when western anything snuffs her out.
This is brilliant, a court injunction to allow a wrecked Russian tank be placed on the road in front of the Russian embassy:-
won! The VG Berlin has obliged the @BA_Mitte_Berlin by way of an interim order to grant the special permit under road traffic law to set up a wrecked tank on the Schadowstraße/Unter den Linden intersection in front of the 🇷🇺 Embassy.
More mass graves, sadly the reality is these discoveries are not even surprising anymore:-
RIP
Live talk between two military experts at 5 o clock our time. Both are very knowledgeable i highly recommend them.
It's hard to tell from that video but if they aren't creating traverses, then not only will blast effect not be inhibited, but enemy troops entering the trench will have a nice ready-made fire lane along which they can enfilade the trench's occupants.
I think zig-zags were used more for communication trenches (in WWI anyway).
But you'd first have to tell them you were engaged in trade...
Amateur... Section 381 loss ftw!
Get off my border.
Make me!

That reminds me, I need to complete my Form 11. I used to find it challenging until one time a random thought just popped into my head; 'what would Bertie do?' ever since then it's been a breeze. Every time I feel slightly confused or conflicted, its 'what would Bertie do' and the form just about completes itself.

It doesn’t matter. They won’t attack inside Poland (very stupid idea) and the transport route isn’t exactly on Google Maps. That’s besides the fact they’ll be under heavy surveillance and security.
This is probably a stupid/dangerous thought but what if nato was to amass a massive amount of troops on the Russian border like Russia did with Ukraine pre invasion except they don’t invade just stay put. Might spook the Russians into taking resources out of Ukraine in fear of an invasion. I had the same thought just before the Russians invaded. As I said it’s probably stupid even dangerous idea but I wonder how that scenario would play out.
