I think you need to stop reading the conspiracy theories forum 😉
I took it to mean possibly Ukraine did some tidy up themselves.
A lot of us have severe problems with US policies and actions but this thread is about Russia and because of their illegal invasion of Ukraine since 2014 that is taking up most of the discourse.
When I see some users say "Bad thing about Russia" and then add a "but" we know what their game is. The current situation is not a grey area at all, Russia violated a sovereign countries territory and has tortured and murdered the citizens of that country. There should be no "buts".
Word of advice for many on this thread: it is possible to dislike America, American hegemony and overseas policy while not turning everything into “what about the yanks”. It is also possible that America can on a rare occasion end up on the right side of an issue.
I don't think the Russians have the capabilities or intel assets in place to carry out this sort of attack. He was just unlucky.
As I said yesterday these attacks on nonmilitary targets just prove how desperate Putin and his junta are and just how useless their military are. They can't compete against the Ukrainian military so they just attack civilians, pathetic.
And #1 in terms of emigration of Russians (fleeing the country).
The Head of Ukraine's cyber security was killed in yesterdays attacks.
Yuriy Zaskoka, head of the department of the Cyber Police Department, was killed during the morning shelling of Kyiv.
The law enforcement officer was at the epicenter of the explosion when he was driving to work in his own car
I am deeply suspicious about that being just bad luck.
The demise of the USSR was financial, and that is what will happen here. I think there is a greater chance of complete economic collapse in Russia than either side agreeing to peace.
If Ukrainian figures are correct, Russia just spent $1.25 billion worth of missiles to achieve no military advantage. They don't have many missiles left and the embargoes are so successful they are raiding consumer products for chips. They can't even make more tanks as of March and it's doubtful they can make many missiles, and certainly not at a rate to replace those used.
It's very telling that the Russians have had to repurpose ground to air and anti ship missiles for ground attack because of running low of ground attack ones.
I saw a video of a 6km tailback of those wanting to cross the bridge, so there probably is some traffic, but it must be very limited. That traffic was of vehicles wanting to leave Crimea.
Huge waste of ordnance just to prove they can still hit Kiev. All It has done is expedited air defense cover for the Ukrainians. Pundit on the French news channel made an very salient point. Russia just S*unked these weapons that could be used to defend against the so called NATO attack. Makes zero sense if they believe NATO is going to attack. Cant be replaced easily.
after this Russia just got stronger.
They spent well over half a billion dollars to murder 14 people and hit zero military targets. If anything it weakens them by having ~100 less missiles to use on actual military significant targets.
IIRC, every time some new puppet takes the helm of the 'SMO', Russia launch a large amount of missiles and the next day it's back to the usual rut for them.
And that's how you get Putin
Would rather see the fleet in the Black Sea sunk, like tonight. .... your move Putin
As far as I know, Biden and Zelensky spoke yesterday after the Russian attacks, and Biden has said that he will increase air defense supports to Ukraine. Hope that it is true.
Russia took a risk doing what they did yesterday, and it was based on the argument '' the West will not respond if we do this'' and sadly it looks like they won't , after this Russia just got stronger. The time has come to step up, and the US and Nato have let it slide, and I THINK we all know, if Putin was to use a nuke, they'd let it slide also 😐️
Yes, and mostly from ex-USSR Countrys, and even so, the overall Russian birth rate is lower than the death rate. Population figures are dropping year on year. Why is that? Have you lived or do you live in Russia?
I'd say they don't have much choice but to listen to it...but the question is do they believe it?? I'd say that many do. I have many Russian friends, and I was more than surprised to hear how much of it they not only believed, but actually supported it. And before this kicked off, I'd have considered them to be well educated levelheaded people. So you never know.
Not so in the US. They have already ruled out using nuclear weapons. They are not stupid, and besides have no need to. This whole situation rests on Putin, (mad as you say he is and I agree 100%} But the question is he mad enough to sign his own death warrant by starting a nuclear war? Personally, I doubt it, but then again, with madmen, you can never tell. So far he has instigated many murderous attacks on civilian targets, so a nuclear strike as his last act is not beyond the bounds of impossibility.
Missile strikes on their own never worked before. Putin needs boots on the ground if he is to achieve what he wants, regime change from a democratic state to a puppet dictatorship. He doesn't have that, why risk civil unrest to conscript 300k men if had easier options with weapons of mass destruction. The incompetence and lack of morale among the ground forces and the staggering impotence in establishing air superiority make this war practically unwinnable now, based on his goal of regime change.
Beat Change.org petition I've seen in a long time:-
Not seeing this reported anywhere, perhaps more on it tomorrow?
Anti-tank missiles are normally defensive weapons, and they are equally normally only of use against a certain subset of targets. I mean, sure you can sneak forward and use a Javelin to knock out a bunker, but it's an extremely expensive way of doing it, to the point that the US went to the trouble of upgrading the old Carl Gustaf to do that sort of thing for the light infantry. Still, that can only be done at the speed of infantry.
Tanks are irreplaceable in the offense, and, indeed, a well-handled tank is better in the defense than a couple of missiles as well, but in the panic time when Ukraine was defending desperately, anti-tank missiles and rockets were indeed what were needed to provide massive coverage in the defense. As Ukraine attacks, you should see tanks in the center of things, if they have them and know how to use them. For all their merits, Ukraine are not a modern Western army, and don't expect them to fight as well as one.
Army regs require Ican pass the PT test until age 60 regardless of rank, which means I've a fair few tests to go. Plus we have height/weight/body fat limits we have to adhere to, whether we can pass the test or not. (Whether they are correct is another matter, we use tape, and I'm sure most NFL players wouldn't pass, but it's what we use now.)
Yes Lizzy, and who started all of this destruction? I'll tell you who. One Vladimir Putin when he illegally invaded the sovereign state of Ukraine. And every single death and all destruction since and still to come, is squarely on him, and no one else. Have you lived in Ukraine, and been bombed?
Well the discussion in this thread is mostly about the criminal / fascist dictatorship known as the 'Russian Federation' and its illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2022, not so much about the history of NATO or western democracies in the 20th century.
Thankfully it looks like all will be rescued:-
Sad about the strikes which have prompted real anger for good reason but I think it's a big reality check as well.
No matter what one thinks If Russia really wanted it this war would be long over. They don't need soldiers.
It's hard to see past the negotiating table. Someone has to turn it off.
The yanks only act to benefit themselves, something you are going to learn all about in the next 12 months, just because they looked out for outposts such as Ireland in the past does not negate the fact they will drop us the minute we are no longer useful as a political entity for their own homeland. We should not be reliant or stupid enough to think this will continue. It is to our detriment we have this outdated mindset when they are ten leagues ahead of us.
Yeah and like I already said Russia were and are a bunch of c**ts looking to totally destabilise Europe too, correct?
You think that in the current world set up, with the US facing war with China over Taiwan, a destabilized EU and west generally is in the best interests of the US? A successful and prosperous EU / west is a win / win for the US. Both from an economic and security point of view. Why do you think that they are supporting Ukraine and the west against Putin? If they wanted a destabilized EU, all they had to do was keep out of Putin's war. But no, that's not in the best interests of the US.
Russia was involved in many of these wars, correct? China, Korea, Vietnam, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Afghanistan, Georgia, South Ossetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia, Syria, Ukraine etc etc.
