Might be nice for crepes/waffles etc, but coffee wasn't good! The only place to get a decent coffee up in Manor is in the Bookshelf!
No Ukrainian refugees in that tent AFAIK, it's for asylum seekers.
There is a current distinct lack of accommodation for asylum seekers as Ukrainians obviously get priority treatment, given that they have refugee status on arrival.
That's not what rté news said last night. The tent is being used for Ukrainians. Some of them were on camera and interviewed.
Rte never mentioned they were ukrinians staying in tents in tralee just asulum seekers, usually p.c.bullcrap .Why don't they house these asulum seekers in Donnybrook when they are so worried about them!!
This isn't England we're talking Tralee here. Take this s**t elsewhere.
None of this is relevant to this thread, please drop the conversation. Mod
Are you a self-appointed Mod on Boards now so you can dictate you can/cannot post on this thread or what topics are discussed.?
They weren't dictating, they just pointed out its nothing to do with the thread. As a Mod I am asking to drop it.
The news piece was specifically about Ukrainians living in tented accommodation!
Ukrainians living in tented accommodation in Gormanston Camp which closed at the end of last month.
Ukrainians have not been housed in tented accommodation in Tralee nor anywhere else.
🙄
The piece on RTE news was from Tralee, about Ukrainians housed in tents in Tralee and included outside shots and aerial shots of the Refugee Centre in Tralee, which showed, very clearly, a large tent which houses Ukrainians who were interviewed about their experience of living in a tent in Tralee. I'm sure if you go on to RTE Player you can find the News programme from the day it was broadcast to verify .
I must say I heard this piece on the news too and whatever way they had worded it in the report I thought it was Ukranians in the tent in Tralee too!
I happened to be at my parents house who had the news on TV and I'm very sure it was about Ukrainians who were being housed in a tent by that refugee centre on the Blennerville Road. We were talking about it after and saying we had seen the tent the other day. I'm sure the rte player will have the 6pm news from Friday on it to check.
I can see how some folk took it up wrong as it mentioned the tents in Gormanston that had housed Ukrainians over the summer but the tent in Tralee is for asylum seekers only.
Ukrainians are refugees, not asylum seekers, and are housed in separate specially-contracted accommodation, not in the normal direct-provision system.
They are not being housed in the DP centre, they are in the big white tent at the back. The news piece stated that quiet clearly.
Did you read the RTÉ piece above that another poster posted? The tent is specifically for housing single adult males.
Now even if it did house Ukrainians, few, if any, adult male Ukrainians are arriving here as they're not being allowed out of their own country.
Either way the result is the same - there are no Ukrainians in that tent..!!
Read the article and it doesn't back up your claim.
It says its men. Doesn't say they aren't Ukrainian. As it also compares to Gormans Town which was for Ukrainians its safe to say that's who it's for.
The rté news reel stated it was Ukrainians
Absolute and utter nonsense. It's your claim that's not backed up. Nowhere does it say it's for housing Ukrainians. The comparison to Gormanston is that they were both tented facilities erected at the same time.
What is explicitly stated in the piece is the following:
"However, the department spokesperson said that the tents used to accommodate international protection applicants on the site in Tralee - and in two more tented camps which opened last month in Clare and Westmeath - are deemed winter-proof."
What are international protection applicants? It's just another term for assylum seekers. Ukrainians don't have to apply for international protection as they automatically have it on arrival.
Does anyone know where in Tralee you can buy these covers for the outside heating flues? Mine is rusted and needs replaced. I can see they are available on Screwfix.ie but it would be handy to be able to just buy one locally rather than online.
I went to the bother of going back and listening to the RTE news of 7/10 (it was a wet miserable evening sure what else was there to be doing!) and it is Refugees in the tent in Tralee not Ukrainians.
Now I suppose the thing is I presumed both were the same while half listening to the original programme, they were interchanging the words the whole time talking about Gormanstown and Tralee so I thought they were just referencing them both ways, incorrectly obviously!
Just after talking about Ukrainians in tent in Gormanstown they went to tent in Tralee and I remembered clearly the guy they spoke to saying it was 'appalling' as I remember thinking well yeh it's not great but there are no bombs falling! The roof of the tent was moving in the wind because I thought to myself I lived in a mobile home for 5 yrs way back when and the walls and roof used to do something similar in very windy weather.
I think the fact that the article I linked says it's all men in Tralee tent makes it obvious, that is not the profile of the Ukrainian refugees or whatever is the correct term for them.
Give Kelleher's in the downtown a call. They're my go-to for all sorts of uncommon things. Second port of call is Boyle's in the Clash, then McMahaon's, then online.
BTW Screwfix is rumored to be opening a warehouse in Tralee, so we'll be able to drop in there.
I'm my job I'm meeting a lot of single men who are Ukrainian or claiming to be. Not sure where that puts your profile.
OK, update to put the tent debate to bed.
I was speaking to someone who looks after DP in kerry. They are asylum seekers and not Ukrainians in the tent.

Thanks! I had my boiler serviced today & the guy said he has a spare one he is going to give me! The rust off the old one has gone down the wall of the house which is very annoying!
Who did it for you.?
Besides Enterprise, is there anywhere to rent a van for a day in Tralee? Need to make a run to Cork to pick up some wood.
I use a man called Mike O'Shea, very nice man. 0872314491
Might be worth asking Joe O'Connors garage over near the hospital, he rents cars anyway, not sure if he would have a van but very reasonable obliging place to rent a car.
Try the airport
Gocar, book online and the vans parked up in Manor west carpark
Their gocargo van is €75 a day and includes 50kms, each km over that is €0.20
If you just need for local run it's handy, not sure how the cost compares to enterprise
